Forty five
Damien finally reached the Redmoon pack. He was able to catch up with Kira and the others while they tried to get answers from Gaius the vampire. He knew that he would probably be questioned on why he had suddenly disappeared and he wasn't too sure whether to tell the truth or just make up a nonexistent story about why he had to leave.
"Well, look who finally decided to show up? Where the hell were you bro and why didn't you inform me before leaving? Do you have any idea how awkward being here is without you?" Draco whispered angrily, hating the fact that Damien had just abandoned him here, knowing very well that he wasn't too familiar with the pack and would most definitely be uncomfortable.
Kira who had just arrived saw Damien and a frown immediately appeared on her face. She had tried to calm herself all through the night but seeing him appear so suddenly again made her even more upset and she couldn't help but wear a frown on her face.
She felt her chest suddenly feel clogged and the knot in her stomach tightened.
"I apologize bro, I had to quickly head to the pack," Damien answered.
"Wait, you really went back? Why? What happened?" Draco asked, wondering why Damien would have needed to rush to the pack so suddenly without bothering to tell him first.
While Damien and Draco conversed, Kira listened to them quietly. She had tried not to eavesdrop on their conversation but she couldn't help but be curious to know what Damien had been up to and she wanted to know if her suspicion was far-fetched or not.
Draco suddenly started to sniff Damien, suspecting the reason behind his disappearance.
"Why do I smell Sheila all over you? Did you go to meet her? Was that really why you left so suddenly?" Draco asked with his eyes wide.
"Goodness Damien, I get she's your girl and all but can you really not stay a few days away from her? What the fuck is wrong with you?" Draco reprimanded as he shook his head in disbelieve.
Kira unconsciously clenched her fists hard as soon as she heard Draco mention Sheila's name. She felt her chest burn with rage and her stomach churn in disgust and disappointment. Tears filled her eyes but she refused to let it drop.
The fact that the first thing he did after being with her was run straight back to Sheila, made her feel bitter and heartbroken.
Just the thought of him and Sheila together riled her up. She knew he already had Sheila and had told her that he wasn't going to ever agree that she was his mate but it hurt her so much that even after everything, he still felt the exact same way.
She found it hard to believe that what happened between them that night was something that only she had felt cause as far as she remembered, he loved and wanted it just as much as she did and if Layla hadn't interrupted them, they'd have most likely gone even farther than just a few kisses.
She didn't want to believe it was all in her head and that he felt absolutely nothing for her at all for her.
She wasn't only hurt by his actions but she also felt insulted and disrespected.
The fact he couldn't respect her, not even a little and immediately went back to another woman after what had happened between them hurt her so much and made her blood boil.
"Well, I went to see Sheila," Damien confessed making Kira's already broken heart, shatter into smaller pieces.
Earlier today, before Damien left, Sheila had come to visit him and she had hugged him and held on to him very tightly. She cried profusely and insistently refused to let him go and she also took it as her chance and complained about his attitude towards her, how much he had suddenly changed and how much she didn't like his sudden behaviour with her.
He tried as best as he could to get away from her even though she was very insistent on making him stay behind with her. He hated the fact that he had made her cry and he was angry with himself for making her cry.
As bad as he felt, he also knew for a fact that his feelings were no longer the same. The love and excitement he had with Sheila was suddenly replaced with an overwhelming feeling of guilt and pressure.
He suddenly realised that Sheila wasn't exactly an understanding person and she always loved things to go her way and with the way things had been in the last few weeks, he had come to a realisation that he needed someone who would understand him and work with him and Sheila just wasn't that person.
He understood that she wasn't as strong as many other women in the pack but she could help by just comforting him and encouraging him but instead, all she ever did was complain, nag and reprimand him for absolutely no reason at all.
Draco pinched the bridge of his nose." "Did something happen in the pack? Was Sheila hurt?" Draco asked.
"No. I just...,"
At that moment, Damien tilted his head and his eyes met with Kira's.
A weird feeling overtook him and he decided that he would do the most unexpected thing.
The moment he saw her, all he wanted to do was just confirm what he was feeling for her and so he walked towards her, briefly stood in front of her without saying a word before hugging her out of the blue.
Kira was taken aback by his sudden action and instinctively, she pushed him away from her as quickly as she could.
She felt the sudden urge to slap him but clenched her fist instead in an attempt to control herself.
Although it was for a few seconds, Damien was able to get the answer he wanted.
Unlike when he hugged Sheila, with Kira he felt way more at ease and he could hear his heart racing faster than usual.
He shook his head in frustration. 'Its definitely nothing serious' he said to himself.
He refused to accept that he felt something stronger and deeper for Kira than he felt for Sheila cause it felt strange and unbelievable.
He wiped his face with his palm, letting out a frustrated sigh and refusing to accept what he felt while he hugged Kira.
"Don't you ever touch me," Kira warned sternly, pointing her index finger at him.
Damien wasn't even listening to her as he had a lot going on in his mind. He has been with Sheila for so many years and he promised that he would always love and protect her. He had promised to marry her and to him, she was his safest place.
He felt something was wrong or rather something had gone wrong. Why was he suddenly so drawn to Kira? He thought to himself.
"I refuse to tell you anything else!" the loud voice of Gaius yelled suddenly, grabbing everyone's attention.
Layla clicked her tongue. "You would rather die than tell us your hideout? Okay then, I'll be happy to grant you your wish Gaius. I know what's going through that mind of yours. You probably think we have no intentions of killing you any time soon because we want information from you so you're probably waiting for the right time to escape from us but here's the thing Gaius, we don't care whether or not you say anything. In fact, you are going to be the perfect scapegoat for us so we can show your people that we're not scare of you guys and we're ready to show you bastards just what we're made of,"
With that, Layla kicked Gaius out to the sun and right in front of their eyes, he burnt to ashes.
"He refused to say anything and the only thing we know is that they are vampires but why they are after us but what their aim is, where they are and what they're up to, we do not know," Layla said, walking towards where the rest of them stood.
"You still shouldn't have killed him just yet. To be honest, I'm starting to get really frustrated with this whole situation. It suddenly feels like we're playing hide and seek. They know where we are and when they feel like it, they come for us but we do not know where they are and sadly, we can only get them by a stroke of luck. They are really all just a bunch of cowards!" Kira spat out in frustration.
"I must give it to you for being able to catch one of them. But who knows how strong these people really are? I still believe we have one of them among us because how else...," Damien cuts Draco off.
"If they have someone like that amongst us then that person would have been burnt to ashes by now since everyone we know that had access to any information about us has been under the sun on several occasions. I really don't think it's someone like them that's giving out all of our information," Damien said.
"What is it you're saying Alpha Damien?" Layla questioned.
"What I am saying is that, there are a lot of things that we do not know about. The spy can be absolutely anyone and we can't just assume that everyone that seems like one of us is really a part of us. They could even be some other kind of creature that we don't know and that doesn't get fried under the sun," Damien said.
"I'm not trying to point fingers or anything but, what if one of us is the actual spy and is the betrayer?" Damien added almost immediately, wearing a serious look on his face.
