Old flame

Lucifer's POV

The beating of my heart pounded in my heart so hard I could feel my ears drumming as every bit of blood felt like it was draining from my body.

I felt like I was in a dream. Like I was standing in front of an illusion. It was impossible. The dead could not come back to life. Not in this part of Glasgow. Witches have been in extinct and anyone caught in the act was executed.

Flashes of the night she died went through my head. I killed her myself. Not intentionally but I did murder her.

She smiled. Exactly as before. There was not a single change in her either. Was I hallucinating? No. I have not even thought of her for a very long time.

"Is this a way to welcome your love back Lucifer?" She asked still with a smile. Hopefully, someone would wake me up from this dream. This was a dream, I was sure of it.

"This cannot be true," I said finding it hard to breathe properly and momentarily forgetting Ashlyn was by my side.

She smiled again. "It is true Lucifer. I have risen from the dead." She said.

No. Not this. Was this another fate I'll have to face? What was going on? Why did my past suddenly spring up?

I backed away from her still not believing my eyes I heard gasps behind me and I turned to see Ripper, Stealth, Rage, and Kill in shock.

I walked towards them. They had been the ones to bury her when I could not bear the guilt of my actions.

"This is not Celine init? You all buried her that night init?" I questioned hoping it was true. Hoping this was an imposter standing before me.

Kill looked down and so did the rest of them except Ripper. He shifted on a foot.

"Tell me. I deserve to know the truth." I said to them.

"We're sorry, Lucifer, but we did not bury Celine that night," Ripper said with low confidence in him. I stumbled backward a little bit in shock.

"After taking her away from the pack house and out of the territory, we had left her there to get the tools needed in burying her body but by the time we got back, she was no longer there." He explained.

I could barely think straight. This meant that the person standing before me was real. Celine was alive but how?

"Do you believe now that I'm not a figment of your imagination?" She asked me.

"But how?" And why now? The question stuck in my throat.

"It's a very long story and I cannot begin to talk about it still standing out here. It's getting cold," she said walking up the entrance stairs and into the house. "Good Lord, I've missed this place." I heard her say.

"Lucifer?" I heard Ashlyn's soft voice behind me. I turned towards her. "What's going on?" She asked. That was what I was about to find out. She had so many questions in her eyes. So many that I had only a few answers to some of them.

I turned away and walked into the house to find Celine already seated in the living room with a shocked Roselia in front of her.

"I'm not a ghost, Roselia. It's me Celine and I'm craving your delicious salmon and rice so badly. Would you be a pretty good woman and make me some?" She asked with a huge grin on her face.

Roselia just stared at her like she had grown two horns. "Hurry up now," she said snapping her fingers. "The Laird's love should not be kept waiting." She said and Roselia walked away.

Love? How difficult it was for me all those years ago to forget what I did to her and when Ashlyn had come into my life, it had become easier. Now that she was back...

"I was taken away by a good Samaritan who according to him felt a faint pulse on my wrist and had taken me away to nurse me back to health," she said sensing my presence. "Your claws had cut deep into me and till this day I still have the scars from the wounds you inflicted on me nine years ago." She said as she looked over in my direction.

She stood up and walked towards me. "And all those years I never forgot you." She said and traced a finger on the sidelines of my face. "When I thought I would die that night I did not hate you or curse you. After all, I was going to die at the hands of the man I love." She said.

"Celine.." I called. Things had changed. Nothing was the way it used to be. But how could I tell her that? Her return was getting me confused.

"Shh," she said placing a finger on my lips. "Do not say anything. I know you miss me too. Perhaps even more than I do." She said reaching her lips to mine.

Then I felt Ashlyn's presence, I looked away from Celine and towards the door. Ashlyn was standing there with hurt on her face.

"Go on. I did not mean to stop you." She said and walked towards the stairs.

"Ashlyn wait," I said to her but she did not. She practically ran up the stairs.

"Who's she?" Celine asked as I pulled away from her and without answering her question, I went after Ashlyn.

Ashlyn's POV

It pierced right through my heart when I saw him so close to the lady that just appeared from nowhere and with what I was seeing so far, they knew each other. They seem to have a very intimate connection.

How many women do I have to keep fighting for Lucifer with?

I got into the room that we now shared and sat on the bed with my hands on my face promising myself that I would not cry.

"Ashlyn," Lucifer called as he walked into the room. I heard his voice but still, I did not take my hands from my face.

"Ashlyn please listen to me," he said as he crouched down in front of me with one hand on my knee. "Look at me." He said but I did not. Not because I could not, but because I was afraid of breaking down in front of him.

"Please." He pleaded to take my hands from my face I finally looked at him and tears choked my throat and my eyes burned.

"Who's she and why is she so close to you? Is she another mistress?" I asked. Maybe that was it. Another mistress and I were making a mountain out of a molehill. He shook his head and my heart clenched. She was not a mistress? If she was not a mistress then she was someone special. How can I fight her over him if she was? Was I going to lose him now that I finally had him?

"Celine is not my mistress Ashlyn," he said.

"Who is she?" I asked with my heart in my throat. Was I ready to hear this? Would it not hurt me the more?

He stood up to his feet and placed a hand on the top of the chair. "I met Celine a few months after I was ordained alpha. The rebellion against the reign of the Saunron household had made me find her. Taking every other clan as prisoners, I could not take hers. When I saw her, it was exactly what they called love at first sight." He said without looking at me while my stare was fixed on him.

How could a man I knew to be incapable of love than be in love with her back then too? Was it because of her he never wanted to give love a try again? Did this mean I was not the first person he ever fell in love with? I was making conclusions on my own. I could hardly breathe. I could hardly wait for him to tell me what will shatter me the more.

"I brought her to the pack house against my father and mother's will. Celine's a werewolf but still, my parents did not want her. It did not matter to me. My stomach flipped whenever I saw her and that was enough for me. She stayed here with me until the full moon arrived. She was warned not to come close to my room in the evenings or at night. She had once seen me transform into my demonic form," he said and paused. He swallowed as he walked towards the window.

"She had been terrified and kept away. The secret passageway was still in procession then and yet to be completed, I rarely went there to transform but stayed in my room and cause havoc.

That particular night, I went to the underground. I did not know she would come there. She had always been adventurous and she found me. I was already in my full-fledged demon beast form. A beast that attacks women so I could never fall deeply in love." He said.

I looked at my fingers. The demon he was fighting with was not to fall in love. Why?

"I saw her but I could not help it. She was not fast enough. My claws sank into her back tearing up the flesh. The onslaught was twice before Ripper and the rest got to know and took her away. By the time I knew what I had done, it was morning and already too late. I could not live with the guilt at that point. I did not even try to visit her grave. It could have been a waste of time now that I know she was never buried." He said and then looked at me. I raised my head to find him staring and I did not break the contact.

"Now that she's alive and here. What will happen to me? What will happen to us?" I asked him.

He walked closer to me and pulled me up from the bed.

"On one side is Celine whom I had an old unexplainable likeness for and the other side is you, a love different from what I have ever experienced." He said to me.

"What are you saying Lucifer?" I asked him trying to find reaffirmation from him that this was not the end of our story.

"I'm not about to let what I have now go away because of I found what I had lost in the past." He said to him his eyes fixed on mine and I believed him. With these words, all my fears and worries were tossed to the wind. He hugged me and I held him tightly. Who cares if she was the first person he did like or loved? I was the one in his life now. The one he wants to be with. I was not just a nobody in his life. I was his mate. No one could take my place.
