Regrets
"Please move out of my way." Abby coldly said to him. They were both stubborn. They stared at each other for what seemed to be a long time. She was determined to leave as much as he was determined to make her stay.
Her request was answered with a deep sigh and he seemed to have lost some of the coldness that masked his features earlier. He massage his forehead to help get rid of the headache he could feel coming up.
"Move out of my way Tunde"
"Calm do..."
Since he refused to move, she tried pushing past him, cutting him off midsentence, not wanting to listen to what he had to say. Pushing past him though, was more like pushing through a concrete wall because he just stood, unmoved by her effort.
Tunde however was amused by her little show of power but he dare not show it on his face in order not to worsen the situation between them.
"Will you please calm down and let's talk about this? He calmly said, unfazed by her anger.
"Oh, now you want to talk ehn!? Well, too bad cos I have nothing else to say to you."
"Okay, I'm sorry..."
"You're sorry!? Wao!... Just wao! So which part are you sorry about?"
"I was wrong... I shouldn't have talked to you like that. I'm sorry."
"I followed you here because I knew I owed you an explanation about my supposed toyboy but you said It doesn't really matter anymore. If it doesn't really matter to you anymore then let me go!
What I will never allow from you or any other man that comes after you is to be treated and talked to like a whore. I Abidemi Abimbola would never disrespect you like that and I will never, ever accept that from any man. Not even if I love him from now till kingdom come!..."
Tunde knew he went too far with what he said. He shouldn't have talked to her like that. No woman deserves such treatment, especially from the man she loves. He was just so angry, his anger got in his way of thinking
"I shouldn't have talked to you like that, I'm deeply sorry. It was because I was angry and... pained."
"You were angry and pained!? Whose fault was it? You never allowed me to explain myself and set things straight between us..."
"Abby what would you have done if you were in my shoes? I wanted to surprise my girlfriend with a visit and a man opened the door of her apartment in his boxers... I asked him who he was and he said he came to see his girlfriend... What would you have done if the reverse was the case?"
'Yes, what would she have done considering the situation?' Abby asked herself and her anger slowly dissipated.
"Abike... What would you have done in my stead?" He called her name and asked softly.
Abby couldn't answer him immediately because there's no telling what she would have done.
"I don't know what I would have done. What I do know is, I wouldn't have shut you out totally with no chance of explanation Tunde. I would still want to give you the benefit of the doubt.
I understood the fact that you were hurt by what you saw... But did I strike you as a cheater!?" Abby asked painfully. "You totally don't have faith in me... You don't trust me at all and it hurts.
It hurts how you easily concluded that I cheated on you with not just one, but two guys! It hurts how you called me a liar and a cheat to my face! It hurts how you asked me to leave your house! It hurts how you blocked me everywhere Tunde!... It really hurts! All this heartache and headache for nothing!..."
She trailed off, couldn't continue with what she was saying. She broke down then and started crying.
"Abike I.." Tunde attempted to touch her but she moved out of his reach.
"I'd like to go home please..." She whispered with tears still running down her eyes which she furiously cleaned away with her bare hands
"No! I won't allow you to leave like this..." Tunde was heartbroken to see her cry. He deeply regretted his action now. He should have listened to Lekan.
"Please... Let me through. I-I don't have the strength to do this right now..."
"Then we won't! If you don't want to talk right now, it's fine. We can talk tomorrow. Just please don't leave me, babe! Please..."
Abby knew it's pointless arguing with him because there's no way he would let her leave that night. She didn't even have the strength to talk. She just wants to lie down, sleep and just forget for now.
"I want to lie down." She simply replied to his pleading and moved past him. She opened the living room door and entered the nearest guest room, locking the door behind her.
She moved towards the bed and lay on it, hugging a pillow to herself till she finally fell asleep.
Tunde felt bad. He stood in front of the room she entered for a very long time before he finally left for his own room. She was right about everything.
I should have allowed her to say something in her defense instead of concluding and shutting her out. Now, what am I going to do? How will I settle this!?
After brooding for some time, he opened his computer and clicked on some buttons. The door of the room she entered softly clicked opened. He would be damned if he went to bed without confirming if she was okay.
He quietly pushed the door open before peeking inside. He entered when he saw her curled up, hugging a pillow to herself. She was fast asleep. He moved closer to the bed, bending to cover her properly with the duvet when he saw a single tear stain at the corner of an eye.
He couldn't beat himself. He would have If he could but he couldn't. It really hurt to see what he put both of them through emotionally all because his jealousy wouldn't let his brain function properly.
He stayed with her in the same room working on his laptop to while away time. When it was around four in the morning, he closed his laptop and left the room, quietly closing the door behind himself. She won't even know he was there.
He got to his room but couldn't sleep. How could he just leave her by herself knowing she went to bed upset with him? What if she left while he was sleeping?
No, he won't allow that to happen! He said to himself. He came back with some beddings and camped in front of her room, thinking about the good times they spent together before his eyes grew heavy and he eventually drifted off to sleep.
