Beginning Dystopia
Khalil is the first one that reaches Natalia as she set up on the couch.
“Are you okay?” He asks Natalia who is paying no attention to Khalil at this moment, instead she’s scanning the room, searching.
It isn’t until her eyes lock on Amillia and she jumps up hugging her that everyone realizes that whatever Damian has worked, and that Natalia is now aware of who Amillia actually is to her.
“Amillia! I saw Sonja. I don’t know what happened, but I feel like I’ve spent years in the darkest theater possible just watching my life replay before my eyes, and then it switched, and I started seeing stuff that I shouldn’t know. I seen her; she’s chained up to a wall in a cellar somewhere….” She trails off for a moment, “It’s not good. She looks like shit.”
“Did you see where?” Amillia asks her.
Natalia shakes her head. Nope, that part was not shown to her, but she knows who was there, and that in itself may be enough to help Amillia locate their sister.
Before Natalia tells them anything more, she takes a look at Khalil. She has a sad look on her face, one that shows some sympathy for the beast. It’s a look that Khalil has never seen on her before and is wondering why she has it on her face now.
She takes in a deep breath, “Amillia… Cole has Sonja, I have no clue where but they’re torturing her, it’s bad.”
Damian instantly wrapped Amillia in a tight hug the moment that the words left Natalia’s lips. Amillia can feel the anger bubbling, she can feel the pull from deep inside her begging to be released and to be able to reign freely. That can’t happen though.
Taking a few deep breaths to calm herself, she reassures Natalia that they will get Sonja back, one way or another.
Natalia hold her head down, “That’s not all I seen though Amillia,” She says so low that Amillia is barely able to pick up what she is saying. Khalil hears her loud and clear though. This peaks his interest.
“What else did you see?” He asks.
Natalia looks at him with sad eyes, “You’re dad using a witch to remove my memories every time that I would see something about your world when I lived with you. It happened more than just that one time that you saved me. He risked my life to hide secrets instead of you all just telling me what was going on.”
Damian’s eyes flashed red for a moment, no one seen this happen except for Jayven, who’s eyebrow raised. Khalil is looking shocked, not knowing what to say, and Natalia isn’t sure how much she can trust him anymore.
Natalia cares for Khalil, deeply, but knowing he’s played with her mind once before, what else has he done? Even if it had been for her own safety she should have had a choice in the situation. He could have explained everything to her. There wasn’t a need, or not one that she knows about, for him to play with her memories the way that they had.
Amillia is appalled. “Do you know how much damage you could have caused?” She asked Khalil, shock and horror laced in her voice. Of course, he didn’t! Why would he?
Khalil is holding his head down not wanting to look anyone in their eyes. The anger radiating from not only Amillia, but Damian and Jackson as well is causing a smothering cloud of tension to float through the room and is making everyone uncomfortable.
“I didn’t know that she already had a memory spell on her. I thought that she was a mortal, so I did what I thought best to keep her safe. I didn’t know my dad had done it repeatedly either.” He looks up at Natalia, sadness in his eyes, “I’m so sorry Natalia, please forgive me.” He pleads.
“Who’s this witch that you and your father work with?” Damian asks.
“Her name is Charlotte. She’s been with our pack for a few years now. She left us for a while and had just returned not too long ago.” Khalil answers although he really doesn’t want too. It’s not as if they are offering him free information about anything.
But he doesn’t want Natalia to hate him, or not trust him. He would never do anything to hurt her, and he doesn’t want her to think otherwise about him.
“Charlotte who?” Jackson asks this time remembering the two brothers setting on the couch observing everyone. They had told them at one point that their mother’s name is Charlotte, surely it’s not possible that the same woman is also Khalil’s pack witch.
“Dinsmore, Charlotte Dinsmore,” Khalil answers.
Immediately Daniel and Jayven both stand up, anger bursting through them like water breaking a damn.
“You’re a fucking liar too. There’s no way in hell that’s fucking possible or you’re talking about someone else one!” Jayven demands.
“What are you talking about human?” Khalil spits back at him, his own anger beginning to get the better of him.
“I’m talking about the name of your witch, she just happens to have the same name as our mother, who we’re looking for. Our mother is a hunter, why the hell would she be helping the likes of you and how could she possibly be a witch?!” Jayven demands.
Daniel seems to be the more levelheaded of the two of them. He pulls out his wallet and takes a picture out of one of the folds and hands it to Khalil.
“That’s our mother,” he tells him.
Khalil studies the picture and then looks back up at the brothers. He’s shocked but his face is indifferent. He has his best poker face on. He hands the picture back to Daniel without saying another word. How do you tell someone that their mother isn’t who they think she is and that she’s a witch that works for werewolves.
Amillia knows, she can see the wheels turning in his head and read his thoughts. There’s no point in risking themselves looking for this woman when now they know exactly where she is, but the problem is, where did their sister go and what’s going on with the big pentagram that formed by smaller ones. What’s causing all of this to happen, or better yet, who is causing all of this?
No one said a word, silence taking over everywhere, even outside, which is weird. It’s never quiet outside, people are everywhere in this city, cars, buses, trains, and people, everywhere. There’s never any peace, not even at night. It’s ongoing.
Just then the whole building start to shake as if the earth is about to split and swallow them all whole.
“What the fuck?” Jayven asked trying to remain balanced as the whole floor that they are on shakes below them.
Damian looks at the map still on the table with all the red marking pins still placed where Daniel, Jayven, and Amillia had placed them earlier.
“Amillia we need to get the fuck out of here, and by out of here I mean out of this world.” Damian says.
“Wait, what do you mean out of this world?” Daniel asks falling back over onto the couch as another, stronger quake of the earth happened.
“I mean we need to leave this fucking world!” Damian retorts losing his patience with everyone.
No one had noticed before that the exact spot that they are in is exactly in the middle of the big pentagram with the smaller one’s surrounding it. Whatever is happening is starting here.
“I can’t Damian,” Amillia answers him. “I’m pretty sure I know what’s coming and I can’t just leave everyone here to attempt to defend themselves against this beast.”
“Yeah, well, you aren’t much of a challenge by yourself now are you Amillia. Natalia is just now waking the fuck up, what the hell do you expect to happen by staying?” Damian asks, losing his patience with her as well.
Amillia looked at him as if he has grown another head. Her look is daring him to try to snip at her. None of this is her fault, although if blame could be placed anywhere it would be on him considering who he is and what all he has done before she came into the picture.
She doesn’t say anything though, she knows exactly why he is feeling off. He’s from hell, his father runs the underworld, it’s his world. The underworld is trying to take over this world. This isn’t any ordinary earthquake, this is hell opening up right before their eyes and it’s trying to connect with the demon closest to it, physically and symbolically, and that demon just happens to be Damian.
It wasn’t just Damian feeling the effects of the underworld about to consume this city though, Amillia could feel it too. It’s cold, slithering tendrils going up her arms and sending chills down her spin as she cracks her neck from side to side. She’s fighting herself, maybe Damian’s right and they need to leave, regroup and re-plan. Yeah, sure, some innocent lives are about to be lost, but everything will be lost if Amillia and Damian both turn back into the darkness that consumes them, taking them over completely. The darkness will win this war for sure in that case.
“Amillia, are you okay?” Jackson asks her, concerned lacing his voice. She’s shaking, goose bumps have appeared all over, her hair and her eyes both turning darker, just slightly. She looks at Jackson and then at Damian who is looking at her knowingly.
“We don’t have time!” Damian growled out at Jackson, his irritation that is uncontrollable getting the best of him. “Your safe house isn’t so safe; we need to go.”
The ground stops shaking, and Amillia walks over to the window, just barely holding onto who she is, and she looks outside. It’s chaos, there’s a big split that runs right outside of this hotel, down the street, cars and people hanging on by a thread threatening to be swallowed whole by the giant crack in the earth that looks like it reaches all the way to the where the underworld would be. This can’t be good.
“They don’t want you to go.”
Everyone’s head snapped towards the kitchen island where a female voice came from. Someone that neither Damian nor Amillia thought that they would ever see again. She appeared out of nowhere, which is normally how her and her sisters like to make an appearance.
“Chelsea?” Amillia asks, the darkness still fighting to take itself over.
“Yup,” she says, popping the “p” in her sentence. “It’s been a while, how have you been dear Amillia?” The beautiful blonde girl with ocean blue eyes asks. She has fair skin, and her hair is flowing down her back, she almost looks as if she’s glowing.
“Why are you here Chelsea?” Damian asks.
“Well, see, so here’s the thing,” the mysterious woman starts. “Carrick is a pain in my ass, he’s toyed with us long enough. Turns out he had tricked us into cursing you two, even though I still believe you deserve the curse. Going against your destiny,” she shakes her head, and then hopes off of the kitchen island landing perfectly on her open toed- high heeled shoes that show off her perfectly manicured feet.
Then she continues, “See, after talking with the Lord of Lords we learned that apparently the Black children still do have the freedom of choice, so Amillia choosing to go against her destiny shouldn’t have involved us.” It’s obvious she’s not happy about not having control over them as she had once thought that she did.
“Because they are much like the mortals, except with immense God-like power, us stepping in sort of threw the balance from good to evil, and that’s why this world is falling into a dystopia. So…” she trails off and waits for a moment looking at everyone in the room. She lingers a second longer on the hunters with a sly smile crossing her face, and then she looks back at Damian and Amillia. “You two are supposed to be together, work together, fight together. We messed up, so I cam to correct the wrong that was done before this world literally turns into the underworld.”
“Wait, so your removing the curse from us and admitting that you were wrong for even doing it?” Damian asks, gloating in his voice as if he had known all along how very wrong what they did had been.
Chelsea rolls her eyes, “Yes Damian, don’t push matters too much, the only reason I’m doing this is because apparently that crack in the earth is the start of the mortal downfall and the Lord doesn’t want that.” She rolls her eyes again; Amillia is almost certain that they’re going to get stuck that way if she does it again anytime soon. This city will change, but that doesn’t mean that the whole world has too, and you two just so happen to be the keys to keeping the loss of the mortals to a minimum.”
Chelsea waves her hands and the darkness inside of Amillia instantly stops growing. She now looks like how she did before the earthquake happened. The curse has been broken.
Then Chelsea looks at that hunters, “No matter what happens remember there’s a reason for everything. Your own the right path right now for your fate to be completed. Stay on that path, it’s not nice to try to change one’s fate.”
Then she was gone.
“Who the hell was that?” Jayven asks.
“That,” Amillia answers, “is one of the three sisters. She’s a fate. She’s the nicest one of them all honestly, I’d take heed to her warning too.”
“So, what do we do now?” Natalia asks.
“We still have to find Sonja,” Amillia answers.
“What about Leyla, where is she?” Natalia asks. “You don’t seem too worried about finding her.”
Amillia gives Natalia a brief little smile. It wasn’t a full smile because the thoughts of Leyla aren’t happy ones.
“I’m not too worried about finding her right now because I know where she is,” Amillia answers. Natalia is looking at her with shock on her face and a look telling Amillia to continue. Amillia takes a deep breath, “Leyla is in the underworld. She has been made to believe that she’s the daughter of Carrick, who just happens to be the right-hand man of the Lord of Darkness.”
“Um, Amillia,” Damian says, “We have a problem, if this earthquake opened up one of the mouths of hell then we can’t all leave, someone is going to have to stay here to fight against whatever hell spits out of it’s pits onto this earth.”
Of course, he just has to be right. If they all leave and there’s no one left here that knows what’s going on to be able to fight then more will be lost than what should be. They can’t allow all those demons to come forth and take over this world, someone has to stay behind to make sure that the demons are kept at bay until they figure everything else out.
Damian moves over to Amillia and wraps her in a big hug. “Look, baby girl, I know the curse on us is just now lifted and we’re finally able to be around each other without causing complete and total destruction, but I really feel as if I should stay and fight. I’m the son of the Lord of Darkness and will be able to figure out who, or what, demons are here and send them back to the underworld.”
As much as Amillia doesn’t want to let him go she knows that he is speaking the truth. It’s their duty, their job, what they were made for, to protect the mortals. To stop this war from involving them as much as possible. Which, that’s not completely possible considering the war is because of their existence, but they have to do what they can to save as many innocents as they can. The blood of the innocents are on their hands.
“We can stay and help,” Jayven offers. “Daniel and I, we can help. We want too. You four go and find Sonja, and maybe by the time you get back we can bring Leyla back home. Remember, I’ve met her, and she doesn’t want to be ruler of the underworld. She doesn’t want that life anymore. I told you she saved me and said she’s awake, she remembers, she doesn’t want to be there anymore.”
Jayven will forever be grateful for what Leyla did, setting him free. The torture he endured in hell is still fresh in his mind, sometimes keeping him up for days at a time. Being set free from that place had been the thing that changed his mind about everything, made him think about what being a hunter really means and what they should actually be doing. He wants to learn more, do more, be better and not repeat the same mistakes that he had made the first time that landed him in that place to begin with.
Daniel is so unsure about his brothers offer. He has no idea what they could be up against and they’re both mortal. They won’t be able to survive this war, especially being in the middle. He’s about ready to give up on being a hunter. He’s scared, something he’ll never admit, but it’s something he feels deep inside.
The earth shakes again, just slightly this time, as nighttime rolls in. It’s now dusk. Screams can be heard below, and Amillia looks out the window again.
“Oh shit!” Amillia exclaims upon seeing what is happening down below.
“What is it?” Jackson asks.
“Vampires, and a hell of a lot of them too,” she states. “Looks like a few random demons as well.”
Daniel and Jackson both reach towards their bags pulling out medium size blades and a few more weapons strapping up.
“Well, looks like we aren’t getting out of here without a fight,” Daniel says looking out the window with Amillia now.
People are running everywhere. It’s complete chaos. There’s some even entering the building that the six of them are in. There’s no way to get out of the building and through the streets without a fight. Amillia can’t shimmer out and neither can Damian or Jackson, not without the possibility of Cole or another member of the Wyatt family finding them, and that’s not something that needs to happen either.
“Okay, so, we’re going to fight out way out of here. Damian, you, and the hunters go one way, do what needs to be done. Jackson, I, Khalil, and Natalia will go another way, we’ll take down as many as we can to help on our way out. We need to regroup and figure out wherever the hell Cole is hiding Sonja and get her back.” Amillia directs.
They have to take the fire escape out of Jackson’s penthouse. The electricity has been shaky since the giant earthquake that split the ground in two. Taking the elevator is out of the question, they can’t risk being in it when the power goes out completely.
The first three floors going down this fifteen-story building. People must be smarter than to go up to attempt to get away from the madness that’s ensuing outside and all around them.
Jackson and Khalil are the first going down the steps, followed by Natalia and Amillia, and the last three bringing up the rear. Natalia has never been trained to fight so the goal is to protect her while trying to get the hell out of here and out of danger. After all, they still have crap that needs to be done.
They made it to the fifth floor down and someone barges through the exit door on the left-hand side of them. Khalil instantly in attack mode, claws out of his hand kind of looking like wolverine. The person looks at him and hisses with veins pulsing under its red eyes. In one swift move Khalil punches into the chest of the monster and rips his heart out. The person turning to dust and landing in a pile of ash at his feet.
“Wow, that was something,” Natalia states a little amused by the strength her friend possess that she never knew about.
“Let’s just keep moving,” Amillia chimes in, ushering them to keep moving forward. They still have to get out of this building. There’s no way she’s interested in being trapped inside of a stair well or having more of them come after them in here. It’s not exactly the idea place for fighting.
They made their way to the bottom of the exit stairs with only a few more run-ins with a vampire. Luckily they never came across any other form of demon, vampires are fairly simple to kill. There’s worse demons out there to come face to face with.
Once they make it outside it’s as if they stepped into a time warp. It’s turned into a dystopia before they could even make it out of the building. People lying dead everywhere, blood everywhere, people running around screaming, buildings on fire, car alarms blaring. The seven of them just look around, disbelief eating away at everyone.
Damian grabs Amillia by the waste and kisses her. “Please be careful. Call me if you need me, we’re connected again. Thank God the fates broke that curse.”
Amillia promises and they split up into their groups. Amillia, Khalil, Jackson, and Natalia go one way while Daniel, Jayven and Damian go another. Both groups are slashing down vampires as they go, trying to save as many mortal lives as they can, although there’s not actually any safe place to put them at this time.
Considering there’s no where to hide Amillia decides that whoever they save will stay with them, they’ll either fight their way through and survive this attack or, well, there’s only one other option. She can make sure they have a safe place to live once they are out of this city, but the goal is to actually make it out alive with as many innocents as possible.
