DOUBLE TROUBLE WITH THE TWIN WOLVES 13
C H A P T E R T H I R T E E N - - - T O M
Tom ran a hand over his hair and pulled back his shoulders before removing his helmet. He had been away doing errands and setting everyone's tales straight between Jerome and the rest of the group for much of the day when it was coming close to midnight once more.
It was obvious that Hemingway already wanted to avenge his death, and Jerome was going to arrive at some time to pick up the SUV. But as blood brothers do, none of the squad had divulged their whereabouts, and Tom was certain they wouldn't. It happened as it did.
Every single member of Squad Six had already vowed to arrive immediately and offer assistance in any manner they could if needed or if there was anything they could do. The fact that Tom was weighed down by his gear bags as soon as he stepped off the bike was proof enough of that.
He carried the bags into the pub while ignoring the dense gathering of motorcyclists and their boisterous laughter. There was no point in getting into a fight here; however, Tom felt confident that Barry would quickly put an end to it. Intent on locating his brother and perhaps spending some time with Maddison and the boys, he waved to the huge guy as he went into the rear rooms before trudging up the stairs.
Being gone for such a long time had been horrible. Tom had no idea how quickly he might become extremely reliant on someone. Any movement away from them was a struggle now that he was aware of Ryker and Reidan's existence.
Although he and his twin had always been close, separating from him in this manner wasn't difficult—it only had an impact on their strength and abilities. Maddison and the infants, though? He had been sick with stress the whole day, and it felt like a nasty hangover.
Tom heard a high-pitched, excited laugh coming from a room off to the side as he was about to enter the room he shared with Tim. Maddison’s. After a brief moment of hesitation, he put his luggage at the door and carefully pulled it open, exposing a scene that brought tears to his eyes.
Madison was engaging in stuffed animal play with the boys while seated on the ground. Ryker was having a tense chat with a green T next to the word "no," as if they were staging some type of get-together. What appeared to be a fox's tummy was being prodded by Rex and Reidan. Maddison told the lads a story while holding up a cat and a crocodile, but it appeared like most of the boys were not listening to her.
Tom quietly entered and grinned broadly as the boys both glanced up and waved at him. "They're going to be turning shortly, you know," he said. It won't take long now.
Maddison pulled her hair back and flushed slightly, "You've come back! I was wondering whether you could come back tonight."
He said, sinking to the ground and inviting Reidan into his lap while intently observing the fox, "I couldn't keep away."
Tom noticed that he was being particularly cautious since the baby's skin was silky soft to the touch and he didn't want to accidentally hurt the youngster. But he ought to have known that wolf shifters made troublesome little children, particularly when they were as young as Ryker and Reidan. He hoped that he would have enough time to sort everything out.
He commented, admiring Reidan's little hand, "Amazing that we all start out so small. Can't imagine he will soon be running about as a young wolfling."
"You're not kidding, right? How about I! Before you and Tim, I don't believe I had ever ever encountered a shifter," Maddison laughed. "Now that I've observed a few infants shifting when they are near their parents, you know, it still seems somewhat silly." She said, sounding a little reflective, "And I don't even know what they'll look like when they do."
"Glamorous golden eyes. Black and dark gray patterns appear on bright white fur. The tail could have a hint of rusty brown color. That occurs occasionally." Tom shrugged his shoulders and muttered, "Weird marks."
Maddison burst out laughing, and Tom raised his eyebrow at Reidan, smirking. "I know I'm a witty man, but what now?" ”
"Strange Marks! The way you phrased it," she chuckled, unwinding. "It's like someone explaining a strangely formed birthmark."
"Hey, you're fortunate! There are no faulty bites or anything in the bloodlines. You know how difficult it is to mend a shifting kid's teeth? Braces don't shift well, I can tell you that," Tom chuckled, speaking through Reidan's plush fox, which was crushed against his face.
"I guess there's a lot I don't know about shifter babies," Maddison sighed.
Tom tensed when he heard a hint of unease in her voice, which he recognized as a distant signal of trouble. He leaned over to Maddison and placed a hand on her knee as he carefully removed the fox from his face. Even though they had spent the previous night together and he was familiar with every part of her body by memory, being so close to her in that scenario seemed uncomfortably intimate. However, this was unique. a novel concept.
Her touch was like getting a dose of booze in your veins. Before he was able to return to the words he was attempting to say, it shot through him, capturing his attention for a whole second. Oh my, she might very simply manipulate his thoughts without his knowledge.
"Don't worry, I swear we'll assist you. Learn all you need to know. We're all here for them, you know, so these two will develop into stronger wolves and better people when they become older. ”
He felt a little apprehensive as she stared at him with wide-eyed astonishment. Had he made a statement that angered her? Was what he was saying incorrect? In an effort to find a more comfortable seating position for himself and to mask his perplexity, he moved around a little. He nonetheless forced the words out since it didn't seem right to him.
"Have I made a mistake?" , he inquired, genuinely concerned that he had.
Maddison said with a smile, "No, definitely not. Tim and I had a similar conversation earlier today. about how you wished to be a part of Reidan and Ryker's lives. I suppose it's... unexpected? It shouldn't be shocking, I realize that. I am aware of how much family matters to shifters. However, I believed that with everything that had occurred, this would never happen. It seems kind of weird that something so beautiful is happening yet I should be terrified to death. They'd never get to meet you, and I'd never truly get to tell them who their dads are."
Tom laughed as he squeezed Maddison's leg as she moaned.
He acknowledged, "Fate acts in strange ways." Once again, he genuinely thought that.
To put it frankly, he had never been a big believer in fate. He had never had the need to locate a spouse or have a family. He had always enjoyed stalking people, training, fighting, and getting better. Screwing attractive women came along with that, and for him and Tim, it eventually became into a sport. But it took just one night with Maddison for him to start believing.
He couldn't think of a better situation than to be playing with his kid and brother while holding his son on his knee. Tom understood in his heart of hearts that this was the reason he had been alive. These individuals and this link. He only ever wanted Maddison to truly be his and Tim's, and for their family to be safe and whole.
He would battle tooth and nail for it because it was worth fighting for.
"So, what will happen next?" After a time, Maddison questioned, as if she had finally mustered the strength to spit it out.
"With everything, you mean? Tim and our squad promised to assist in any way they could, so I acquired some extra equipment for myself. Though I believe we have a pretty decent idea, we have a few pals that are attempting to determine where the vans came from. But it's hard to pin them down to a single place. It's kind of a confusing jumble.” Tom shrugged, "I think we're going to need to call in some favors.
Maddison's face creased slightly, as if she hadn't been asking for that, but she made no additional comment and simply nodded.
She took a deep breath and stated, "I'm sorry I got you two into all of this. I'm not sure why, but everything always seems to be going a little bit wrong around me.”
Tom winked at her and chuckled, "Psh, I adore a lady who makes my world explode, both physically and figuratively.”
With a smile, Maddison licked her bottom lip, and it killed Tom. It was an impossible task to keep his hands off of her since she was so delicious. He want to take her up, put her in bed straight immediately, and control her completely. Of course, that would be impolite.
Tom wasn’t sure if he cared.
“I think we’ll call up a guy in the company tomorrow, see if he knows anything. It seems strange to me that they attacked you so quickly after you appeared on that channel. If they are who we believe them to be, they wouldn't typically have that many forces hanging out in random places. You could have just arrived at the wrong location and time, but I believe there is something more going on here.
Maddison chuckled, "Isn't it the story of my life."
Tom laughed, "Yours and mine both, sweetie."
Reidan wriggled off his lap and started to move over the large area of carpet that separated him from his brother. He made it precisely halfway across the carpet before stopping and appearing to run out of energy. Ryker's yawning caused Tom to yawn briefly as well.
Maddison winked and said, "Hmm, seems like I need to put all my lads to bed."
"Yes, ma'am!" Tom jumped up as Maddison started to pick up Reidan, saying, "Wouldn't get any complaints from me."
Barry had retrieved a large crib from their storage and Mary had placed it up in her room. Tom assisted Maddison in putting both of the twin boys to sleep because it was big enough for both of them. They lingered beside the crib and observed the babies as they curled up under their blankets, seemed content and pleased.
Tom's uneasiness over being so far away from them, which had persisted throughout the day, had now vanished totally and been replaced with pure joy. This felt natural. this in its entirety. His puppies were soundly sleeping, with Maddison by his side. If his brother had been present, the image would have been complete.
Maddison's gray eyes softly shimmered in the dim light as he turned to gaze at her while laughing foolishly.
Without giving the concept a chance to settle, he said, "You're gorgeous," without thinking it through first.
After a moment of looking shocked, she finally grinned while flushing. Her red hair licked at her cheeks, which made her even more attractive.
Looking up, she said, "Thank you.
Tom was unable to resist. The moment he covered the little space separating them, he yanked her close, pressing his lips against hers with a need he hadn't known he was harboring since their previous encounter. He gave her a kiss as if both of their lives relied on it, which in his opinion, they very well could. When she kissed him back with equal intensity, his chest heaved with relief. Her hands were on his chin as his reached down to her hips and drew her closer to him.
He was compelled to snarl under his breath as he bit at her bottom lip and caught it in the gap between his teeth. He couldn't get enough of how beautiful she tasted. When he finally broke away from her, gasping for air and hardly able to suppress his need for her, her eyes were sparkling like beacons. He had an epiphany, grinned evilly, grabbed her hand, and dragged her out of the room after him.
"Where are we headed?"As Tom was turning the corner into the corridor, she yelled and grabbed the baby monitor.
His voice was deep and twisted, but the grin on his lips promised more pleasure than any of them could bear. "We're going to go find Tim and see how much we've forgotten about one other," he murmured.
