They almost met
Cairo and I prepared for our flight later to the Philippines. I told him more about our country and some of the funny things I did there. I also told him that I grew up there and his grandfather and grandmother were there, so when we arrived... The first thing we went to was my family's grave.
"Mommy... Where's Grandma and Grandpa?" Cairo asked, wandering around.
I laughed at his reaction.
"Nah, they're not around. Grandma and grandma are here." I tapped the grave of my parents.
"What? But mom why?" I laughed again at his question. His forehead is wrinkled now and he seems eager to know why. I can only smile because Cedrick is definitely her father. Apart from his face taken by my son. His habit is also to ask questions.
I ruffled my baby's hair and hugged her back. I knelt down so that we were facing each other. "Because they're sleeping." I don't want to explain anymore because I know he won't fully understand yet.
"They sleeping under the soil? Is that real, mom?" He asked in shock.
I nodded. "Yeah."
"Then we should wake them up." I laughed again at his suggestion.
"If you wake them up, they will stand up like zombies." I threatened him.
After we visited the grave of my parents and brother, we went straight to Seyah's house because we will sleep there for the time being while the partnership is on going. We will also fly back to Australia immediately once it is over.
I don't want to stay in the Philippines and I don't want my son to grow up here either. He should not breathe the air his father was breathing. I don't want the country we live in to be one. Because, more than anything else, I'm afraid their paths will cross. It has been years now. And maybe Cedrick has his own family now.
I'm afraid that my son will feel that his daddy doesn't like him. That he is like others in his eyes because of course... He will prioritize his family over the woman he married.
"Oh Em Jiii!" Seyah immediately greeted us and immediately hugged my son. She almost choked Cairo so I scolded her. The woman laughed. "Okay okay. Sorry, okay. It's cute, huh! We haven't seen each other in a year!" Seyah shouted and hugged my son again.
I went straight to the table and put down the food I brought. She was still there and tripped Cairo again. "Let's eat first. He hasn't eaten in a while." I said.
"Yes! You really are a mom now, huh? Well, you're really hot! Hoy mama!" I was just surprised when she hit my ass. "Great. Single but sexy. Looks like we're preparing something, huh?"
"Crazy. It's all for myself and my son." I defended myself and opened the styrofoam. I inhaled the hungry smell of the dish.
"I can't be a lotion. I don't have a lotion husband anymore. I'm sorry for myself, aren't I?" I sat down and looked at my son.
"Cairo!" I called him who is currently playing now. When he looked back at me, a smile automatically appeared on my lips. "Come here, let's eat baby." I patted the chair he was going to sit on.
He immediately followed me so I put his food on the plate and set his juice aside. He was smiling while eating and his dimples were very deep. I sighed while smiling. My son is very handsome.
"He's handsome, isn't he? Thanks to his dad." I tormented Seyah when I heard her speak. The witch immediately laughed at me and pulled her chair closer to me. "Hey sis!" She elbowed me.
I looked at his behavior and saw him staring at my son. "What?"
The young woman and I met our eyes and she came close to my ear.
"Cedrick looks a lot like Cairo. Maybe 90% of his face comes from his father, only ten percent is yours. When he grows up, he will be surprised. Do you really have no intention of introducing Cedrick to him?" She asked making me stop moving.
My dark thoughts immediately engulfed me. She was right. Cairo has a i could say a hundred percent of his father's appearance. Maybe if they are together in the same place, everyone with them will easily know that they are father and son because of their same physical features.
And I don't want that to happen. I'm not yet ready.
"When I was pregnant I never thought to tell Cedrick about the child I was carrying... Now that I'm sure I can raise him alone? Why not continue. We don't need him."
"I mean... For Cedrick's right? Especially, fir Cairo. He has the right to meet and know his father. Cedrick has the right to meet and see his son too. The product of your—"
"Let's just eat first." I cut off what she had to say.
I told her to eat, but I can't even do it to myself, I can't even swallow the food I bit. I felt weak from what he said. I don't know how to feel. Every time we talk like this... I'm always confused and feel like crying.
I glanced at my son beside me... And with that, with only one sight of him, it seemed like a needle pierced my heart. Am I really comfortable seeing him grow up without a father? Will the decision I made be good for him? Is it right for me to let him grow up without a father in his life?
I know that my son would notice why he has no father unlike his friends someday. I know that my son will experience sadness due to a missing piece in his life. When he is up for school, he has no father to attend when there's a family day. And... I am so selfish... so bad to do that to my baby. But... I have no other choice.
The next day, I got dressed to go to our company's partner company. I wore a red woman corporate corporate and I tied my hair in a ponytail, making me look so strict. The front of my jacket is slightly sliding to the side since my chest is rising. My breasts are good enough to push them down.
"Wow. Hot momma." Seyah was shaking her head.
I smiled at him and put on my earring. "Are you sure you are fine with Cairo here? Maybe I can take him to that company if you have a walk." I smile hesitantly.
"Yes baby. I'm sure. I'm too lazy to wander around, eh. Besides, it might not be allowed to bring a child there. Find out first." he replied.
I nodded to him and walked in the direction of my son who was currently playing.
"Baby," I opened my arms to hug him.
"Mommy!" He immediately stood up to kiss me on my cheek.
"I'm going to leave for my work. Be good to aunt, ah?" I bought him and planted a kiss on his forehead.
I left home and just commuted because I don't have a license here in the Philippines. I also didn't have a car so when I arrived, my hair was still a bit messy because it was still flying. I always go to the wash room in this company and not to the receiving area to fix myself first.
When I came out, someone immediately greeted me. I must have been recognized because my boss called them. I told him to do that so they know I will come at this time and day. "Attorney, you may follow me to the executive's office." The lady said politely to me.
I just gave him a nod and then I walked next to her, with chin up, straight back, walking confidently.
The woman opened the door for me, she was very respectful as if I were a very important person. Well, it's not just because I'm really important. Who would dare to disrespect the person who is the acting boss of the popular company in Australia?
They might even kneel to me now.
The woman suddenly stopped when she entered and smiled at me with concern.
"Why? Is there something wrong?" I asked. It's like he's shy and he's not comfortable now.
"Um, can you wait for a while here, madam? I think Sir is currently using the bathroom. I'll give you coffee while waiting." She said.
I raised an eyebrow. "Yeah? Sure. It's fine." I said and entered the office and sat on the gray couch. While sitting and waiting, I first picked up a magazine to read. It was about this company because according to its magazine cover, it's about the 20th anniversary.
I read and scanned the inside of the magazine... Until my hand finally stopped flipping pages when I got into the Executive's page... And there... My world seemed to stop.
My hand trembled as I stared at the image of the owner of the company I was in now. The guy is in corporate attire, holding onto his vest, having a jerk smirk on his lips.
I can't breathe while staring at his photo.
The father... The father of my son.
The corner of my eyes watered and when I raised my brow to get out of this place... That's when the eyes of the man I hid for a long time hit mine. I was meeting Cedrick's eyes, with a heavy pounding heart.
I was struggling to breathe while looking at him who had just come out of the wash room.
Both of our eyes were shocked.
"Sherin..." Cedrick whispered enough for me to hear it.
My throat is dry. I can't speak. I'm out of words.
"Cedrick..." As soon as I said that, his secretary also entered with a tray of coffee. Because of that I was able to look away from Cedrick and took my attention away from him.
Until the coffee was arranged in front of me, I was still not satisfied. As time went on I got more and more nervous. Even more so when Cedrick sat down in front of me and was now very close to me. I could almost smell his perfume and his scent changed. He smelled so manly now.
I heard him scoffed and he got my attention right way.
Our eyes met again.
He was almost glaring at me when he crossed his legs and rested his back on the backrest. He's very bossy to watch and I'll admit how much he's changed.
His shoulders became great wider and his jaw has now perfectly shaped, it looks so sharp that if I touch it... My fingers will be injured.
"So... you are the said Filipina from Inheritage Group of Company from Australia?" Cedrick asked seriously.
I met his eyes without any sort of cowardice.
"I am." I said and drank the coffee in front of me. Even though Cedrick wasn't looking, I knew he was watching and analyzing my movements. I can feel his eyes on me now.
"Why did you leave me, Sherin?" I was caught off guard after hearing Cedrick's question.
I felt like peeing in my seat because of his question. Is he doubting that he had a child with me? Sometimes... Do he thought he got me pregnant and he's ready to hold me accountable? I swallowed and boldly met the eyes of the man in front of me. "Mr. Gray told me that—"
"I am asking you." Cedrick immediately cut me off when I threatened to change the topic.
"You are not in the position to ask that. And Mr. Wagner," I sharpened my voice and even used his last name to remind him of the position I have. "...we should never let our past and personal emotions meddle in our job, in our business." I said with finality as if I am not taking to my son's father.
When I got home, I immediately told Seyah everything that happened in my day. Including the man I never expected to see. Even his question is as if he is still looking for a reason why I ran away from him before. What is there?
And what the fuck is he thinking?. Shouldn't he be angry with me and he shouldn't bring up our past? But he's doing it differently... He's still bringing back the past himself.
"Maybe it's because he already loved you when you left? The last night you were together." Seyah's story.
I winced while preparing my tea. It's late and I put Cairo to bed so Seyah and I can talk freely about her daddy. "That was so impossible." I replied.
"How did it become impossible? You're so beautiful and then it's impossible? That's why you said... his body warms to you every day." My face blushed because of her words, remembering how often I had sex with Cedrick before.
"Let's not talk about him. I've been with him for a while now. And it was so rude if I would gonna be thinking about him up until now."
"Really? Huh? Isn't you thinking about him?" Seyah teased. "Maybe you are still hoping he will visit you in your dream, ah? You just saw him again. Later... You'll have a major orgasm while you sleep. I know a man's body gets better as time goes on."
"Shut up." I disobeyed her because my cheeks were getting hot. And everything he said was right... Cedrick's body got even better.
The next day, I went with Cairo to Cedrick's company because I couldn't leave anything with him now. Seyah already has work and I'm only here for a while so I took her with me. I have my own office here and I don't know why Cedrick is doing this. I won't last a month, but my work here seems like a lifetime to allow him to have a temporary office.
Cairo was next to me and was drawing. When I finished what I was doing? I stood up and told him not to leave because I was going to hand over the papers I signed above this floor in a moment. My son immediately nodded so I feel comfortable that he will follow me until I get back to my office. But when I got there... My son was gone.
I immediately panicked and felt like I was going crazy. I just left him here for a while and came back... He was gone.
I quickly and trembling went down the stairs to look for my baby. When I went down, in front of the boys comfort room, I saw him there... Waiting. All my fear disappeared from my chest so I quickly walked towards him but stopped when I heard the conversation around.
"The boy is handsome. Whose son is that?"
"I think it's Sir. Look, he looks like a son of a rich man!"
"No! I think it's Sir's son."
I stopped and looked for that whispers. In an instant, I was immediately filled with nervousness and it only intensified when my eyes suddenly caught Cedrick who was walking towards the elevator, near the boy's comfort room where my son was.
I shivered when the woman called Cedrick and pointed to Cairo. "Sir! Your son?" It's an intriguing question.
Cedrick's eyes immediately turned to my son while covering his forehead and I was the last to see the shock and surprise on his face when he saw my son. He might be recognized his features on him. I'm so nervous I can't move.
"Hey, pretty boy!" The woman called my son so he turned to her, she then pointed in the direction of Cedrick who could not move now. "Your daddy, look!" I feel like I'm in a very cold sweat.
"Huh?" My son reacted. But later shook his head. "My daddy is not here. And... Sorry. I don't know him." My son answered politely and looked around and because of that... Our eyes met. He smiled brightly and waved at me. "Mommy!"
And i knew at this very hilarious moment... I knew all their eyes were on me... Including Cedrick.
