"The sun will shine once more."
Kaden's POV
I watched as my parents were buried in the ground. Countless people had shown up for the funeral.
"I'm sorry son, if I would've known it was this bad I would've sent my fighters to help." A hand laid on my shoulder and I glanced to see a tall dark-haired man with fangs. Lord Dominic, the leader of the vampires and the man that had saved me all those years ago.
"This isn't your battle." I said softly and the vampire growled.
"Anything concerning you or your family is my battle." Dominic grumbled.
"Dom, you can't get angry with the boy, you're both mourning, now's not the time." Iza, his mate said walking over. Her brown arm linked with Dominic's. Four vampires followed her. One, a male, was aged.
"She's right. But Kaden, if you need help, we will fight with you." A woman said.
"Emillia," I paused at her name, it sounded like Amelia, "Do you think you could find his mate?" Dominic asked. I frowned.
"Harper has the sight, she would have a better chance." The woman said nodding to another. I looked at Harper and the vampire dipped her head.
"What's the sight?" I asked and the woman smiled softly.
"I can see where people are." She said and I was instantly intrigued.
"How?" I asked.
"I can just see them." She said and I felt my heart starting to thump in my chest.
"Can you see Amelia?" I asked and the vampire shrugged, causing me to growl in irritation.
"Kaden calm down." Dominic said softly and I bared my fangs. I didn't have time for games.
"Can you do it or not?" I growled and the vampire's eyes glazed over.
"What is she doing?" I growled.
"Quiet." The man beside her snapped and I glared at him. By the way he was glaring at me, I'd assume he was her mate.
"She's talking to them... There's blood everywhere. A lot of them are dead..." Harper said softly and a frown was on her face.
"What's she saying?" The man asked.
"'... hope for you remaining. You've proven yourselves worthy of a second chance. If you'll accept I'm sure you'll follow your Alpha to my pack. Come along, we're leaving this hell.'" Harper said quietly and I tilted my head.
"There are about twenty wolves with her, all young, there's a baby also, except an elder and two adults. They're howling in rally. She's leading them away, they're calling her Alpha. Some have started burning the place. The rogue army is dead." Harper said blinking out of the trancelike state.
"She's coming. They all are." The woman said and I felt a huge weight lift off of my shoulders.
My Amelia was coming home.
"All I've ever wanted was you."
Amelia's POV
My small pack of rogues trailed me as I ran towards my home. My heart pounded and I raised my head in triumph the wolves behind me howling in joy.
Julius was in pup form, my jaws gently holding his scruff.
"Alpha Amelia, how much longer? Linx is losing strength." I glanced over at Blaise, a young gray wolf's yip. The teenager had picked up his pace to match mine and I turned my head a bit to see the old ebony wolf, Hank, was tagging our group. With a growl I slowed my pace until we'd stopped.
Julius yipped as I placed him on the soft grass. I sighed and nuzzled his side.
I padded over to the panting elder and he bowed his head, "I'm sorry Alpha, my old body can't keep up for so long." Linx huffed and I snorted and prodded his ear with my snout.
"It's not your fault Linx, it's fine, we all deserve rest anyway." I said and backed away from him.
"We will rest here for awhile, anyone up for it can come on a hunting trip with me." I said and Blaise trotted over to Linx and sat beside him.
"We'll come Alpha." I glanced over to see a light brown wolf, Hawk also known as Luke, and a gray speckled she-wolf, Storm; Blu. The two were in their twenties and had once been secret lovers, but now they were mated.
I looked at the rest of the young wolves all huddled together.
My gaze went to Blaise, he was the oldest of the youngsters.
"Watch them, howl if something goes wrong." I said and he nodded.
I picked Julius up by his scruff once again and turned to Luke and Blu.
I led the two wolves away and we stalked through the forest. We searched for awhile before I picked up a scent.
"Spread out. Hawk go left, Storm take right. There's a doe ahead." I growled past Julius's scruff.
"Yes Alpha Rain."
"Sure thing Alpha Amelia."
"Stay here my love." I grumbled to Julius and placed him beside a stump.
I looked to the others, nodded and our little group panned out.
We dragged the deer carcass back to the others and everyone dug in. I ate a bit before padding a bit away and sitting down with my pup.
Everyone's stomachs were full as they all settled down for rest.
My snout turned up to the sky as I watched the stars for a while. My heart hung heavy in my chest. Julius suckled hungrily from my teats and I gave him an affectionate lick.
"Alpha... are you alright?" A growl said and I turned my head to see Storm, Blu coming to a halt beside me. She slowly sat down and her blue-gray fur glittered in the moonlight.
I bowed my head before letting out a sorrowful growl and the female beside me whimpered softly.
"It must be horrible... Amelia I'm so sorry for what they did." Blu said and flicked her ears back.
"Sometimes life does terrible things." I said solemnly, trying to be strong.
"Life didn't take your baby, they did. I-" the she-wolf started and a whimper escaped me.
"Storm please... just-don't talk about it. He's here now; he's safe." I grumbled. My heart ached and I looked up at the moon.
"Sorry Alpha." She huffed softly and her pelt brushed mine as she leaned against me. I accepted the touch and leaned on her as well.
Tears welled up in my eyes and I let out a sorrowful whine.
"I could do nothing." I cried and my shoulders shook. Hot tears dripped from my eyes onto the blades of grass and vanished.
"They took my baby right in front of me and... and... I could do NOTHING." I sobbed, my snout wrinkling in anguish.
"I'm so sorry." The blue-gray she-wolf whined and nuzzled my neck comfortingly.
"No one will ever take him again. He's my son." I sighed.
Even if he wasn't Kaden's...
My little pack rushed behind me as we neared my home. We'd woken from our rest and were eager to get going. I'd pushed my sadness away for now.
I let out a joyful growl and the others joined in with yips of happiness. We'd passed the border.
We were so close. And soon the house was in sight.
"Amelia!" Ryan came out of the house and I gazed at him as he came to a halt in front of me.
He knelt and looked at me in shock. His hands reached out toward my muzzle and grazed Julius's fur. My sleeping pup growled softly and I gave an amused huff.
"He wasn't joking." Ryan said softly and I looked at him in confusion. He hugged me and I nuzzled into him.
"What's his name?" Ryan asked softly.
"Julius." I growled past the fur.
"Here." He said giving me some clothes and I gripped them in my jaws before walking away and changing.
I walked back over holding my still asleep pup and looked to my little pack.
"Get them some clothes and food as well." I said nodding to my group and Ryan nodded.
"Where's Kaden?" I asked softly. The beta looked at me and smiled.
"Doing work on the western border. I've already mind-linked him, he should be here soon." Ryan said. I glanced back to the others.
"I've got them. You go inside and rest some if you can." Ryan growled softly and I nodded and went inside.
I was washing my face when I heard the bedroom door burst open.
"Amelia?" My heart started hammering at Kaden's voice and I turned off the water. I walked out of the bathroom and looked at my frantic mate.
"Kaden." I breathed and his golden eyes met mine. He strode towards me and I felt like I was going to burst.
"Amelia." Kaden croaked and I rushed into his arms.
