CHAPTER 38: STAY WITH ME

"Where are the patients that bring here an hour ago?"

Once they reached the hospital, Ivyna immediately ran to the counter and asked the lady who's in charge.

"Good evening, maam. What is the name of the patient?" The nurse calmly asked.

"Those patient from the fire incident, Miss. Where are they?"

The nurse pointed out the left wing of the hospital.

"Walk straight, ma'am. And in the last room, you can find them there—"

Before the nurse could finish her sentence, Ivyna immediately left and ran towards the left wing. Taese just followed her.

Ivyna was feeling mixed emotions. She doesn't know what to feel really. She just wanted to know and see if they are safe. She's hoping that they are safe.

She didn't bother to knock to the door. She immediately pushed the door and entered the room.

But her whole world fell once she saw her parent's situation. She froze to where she was. Tears started to form to her eyes. Her mind got blank.

"N-No... This isn't r-real... No..." She mumbled. Tears fell to her eyes down streaming to her cheeks.

Two people were lying on the hospital bed with a white blanket covering their whole body. And that's only one meaning— they are already dead. Her parents couldn't make it. They suffocated inside their house and lost a lot of air in their body. They are both unconscious when the fireman got them both. And they are already had no pulse rate when they are going to hospital.

"N-No..."

Her knees feel weak. She then falls down but Taese immediately grabs her and helps her to stand up.

"N-No... This is not them... They're not them..." Teary eyes, she faced Taese. "S-Sir... S-Sir, they are not m-my parents, right? Right, S-Sir? They are not!"

Taese immediately pulled her closer to him. He then put her to his chest and tried to calm her with his warmth hug.

"N-No... This can't b-be... No w-way!" Her heart aches so much. She felt guilty.

Minutes had passed, they stayed at that position. Then, Ivyna moved away and removed his hug before she stood up. She then faces the body of her parents and slowly walked towards them.

"Ma... Pa... W-Why?"

Taese just stood there watching Ivyna. He can’t deny that he also hurting seeing her in pain. But he let her so her feelings can’t burden to her. He let her to bring out the pain she is feeling right that situation.

Ivyna let herself fell on the ground while staring at the two dead bodies of her parents. She’s hurting. She’s in pain. She’s guilty. She’s angry. She’s sad. And all she can do was to cry.

Minutes had passed. Ivyna didn’t stop crying. Taese tried to help her to stand up but she’s too weak to stand. She can’t accept what her parent’s downfall. It’s too sudden. It’s too unexpected.

Taese hugged her since he can’t watch her anymore.

“Shh…”

“S-Sir, this is not true, r-right? They are still a-alive, r-right? They are not t-them, right? Sir, I don’t know a-anymore. I don’t know what to do if they really left me.” She sobbed in between his arms.

Taese couldn’t do anything but just to hug her tight.

"N-No... No... This isn't r-real..." Ivyna sobbed in between his arms.

Three hours had passed. They're outside of the room, sitting in the corner. Ivyna was just looking at the floor without any emotion inside of her. She wasn't feeling anything. She felt numb.

Taese, on the other hand, looking at her and hurting seeing her like she can't feel anything. She looked really hurt.

Doctor came and told them that they need to sign up for the burial of Ivyna's parents. Since Ivyna didn't hear what the doctor said, Taese took her place and go with the doctoor. He then told them that he'll ask her about on how they will do on her parent's body. And the doctor agreed.

Taese cameback to where Ivyna and saw her crying once again. She's covering her face with her palms while sobbing in pain. He then quietly sat down beside her and carelessly rubbed her back to at least gave her peace.

"I..." She uttered. "W-Why..."

But before she could finish her sentence, Taese pulled her towards him and give her another warm hugs. Hours haf passed before she calm again. And that's when Taese asked her about her parent's burial.

"Uh..." He uttered. "What do you want to do with t-them? Should we burn or—"

Ivyna cut him off by nodding.

"Y-Yes... I can't see them with those kind of state. T-They are almost burned..."

"Okay, okay, we'll do that." He touched her head and leaned it to his chest. "Be strong."

"I-I don't know... The only people who are important to me was g-gone... How can I be strong if... if they left me alone? I-I don't have family anymore?"

"Shh... Shhh..."

He then cupped her cheeks. He saw how her tears falls down to her cheeks.

"Don't say that, okay? Don't ever say that." He said. "From now on, I will be your family. I will be your guardian or whatever you calls it. Stay with me."

Ivyna nodded in between of her tears.

Taese pulled him once again towards him.

"From now on, I will treasure you." He whispered then lightly kissed her head.

They stayed at that position for a long period of time. Ivyna calm herself already because of Taese's warm hugs. While Taese felt he needs to take the responsibility of her from then. He will do anything for her. To make her fine. To make her happy. To make her better. He promised to himself.
