Kaden's P. O. V. ๐
I got out of bed and stretched. My hand ran through my light brown hair and I sighed and rubbed the sleep from my eyes.
Something felt different this morning but I couldn't tell what it was. I shrugged and made my way to my dresser and pulled out some clothes before slipping them on. I had a little trouble with the button on my pants but I got it eventually.
I opened the door and walked down the hallway and stopped when I heard a shower going. I realized it was coming from Daddy's room and I walked toward it. I slowed my pace as I heard crying and then I heard Daddy's muffled voice saying something. I instantly knew who was crying and it made me want to cry.
It was Mommy.
Mommy was crying and that made me sad. I whimpered and backed away from the door.
Daddy would make it better.
I wanted to see her.
I tried to do the mind link thing but it was too hard and gave me a headache.
I sighed and went to the kitchen to go get some breakfast. I walked down the halls and went into the kitchen and paused when I saw Uncle Dalton and Drew making pancakes. They were bickering over how much butter to add to the stacks already on plates.
"Just a little." Drew growled and Dalton shot him a glare and bared his fangs.
"They don't have any at all. You just put a speck on them." Dalton countered and Drew sighed and crossed his arms. He turned back to the stove and started flipping the others.
"Fine. I guess you're right." Drew grumbled and Dalton smiled in triumph.
"You know I'm right." He said and nipped Drew's ear affectionately. I cleared my throat softly and they whirled around looking shocked.
"Dam-ang. Uhh, hey Kaden. We're just making breakfast." Dalton said and I nodded.
"Mommy was crying. I heard her." I said softly. Sadness flooded through me and pain stabbed my chest. A soft whimper made its way out of me.
The two tensed and looked at me with worry.
"I wanna see her." I said and the two sighed.
"You'll see her soon." Drew said with a smile but I could hear the uncertainty in his voice.
"Thanks for trying to cheer me up..." I grumbled and pulled a chair back so I could sit down, "but I'm not sure if I ever will. What if she's never better?"
I plopped down in the seat and my uncles looked at each other nervously.
"Well... I... I..." Dalton's voice cracked a little as he fumbled for words and he sucked in a breath before saying sadly, "Your mother is the strongest, stubbornest, bravest girl I've ever known. She'll get better; you understand that?" Then without another word he fled the kitchen and his mate watched him leave with a sigh.
"They were such good friends... he misses her too Kaden. We all do." Drew said sitting some pancakes in front of me along with a plate of bacon.
"Eat up Kade." He said and ruffled my hair a bit.
I glanced over to where Dalton had disappeared to.
"You better go and comfort him Drew. Your mate needs you." I said sternly as I began eating the bacon and the old beta looked down on me with a soft smirk.
"You'll make a fine alpha Kaden. I'll be back in a bit." He said then was gone.
I hopped from my seat and took the pan off the hot burner and did my best to turn over the pancake he'd left before it was ruined. Once I got it on it's runny side I put the pan back and got back in my seat. I hadn't wanted to smell burning pancake.
A bit apparently meant a long time because by the time the beta and his mate returned I'd already got the pancake on top of the finished stacks and turned off the stove.
I sat at the table casually eating while Beta Drew made a great show of looking around.
"Didn't I have a pancake here?" He asked.
"Yeah I got it and turned off the stovetop." I said and he looked at me surprised before nodding with a smile.
"Thank you Kaden." He said and I shrugged. It wasn't a big deal.
"It's not like I wanted it to smell like burning food." I snapped softly and Dalton chuckled.
"Like father like son." He laughed and I glanced at him with a raised eyebrow, "What?" I asked. He smirked.
"You've got your father's attitude. Your mom's too." Dalton explained with a soft smile.
"Shut the fuck up Dalt." A deep voice said.
"Clayton!" A woman gasped and I turned to see my dad standing at the doorway smirking at a woman glaring at him.
She was beautiful. Like an angel. Her hair flowed down her back and her gold and orangish-red eyes sparkled. A crease was in her brow as she gave my father a look which he just smirked at. It was her...
"Mom..." I whispered and she turned to me instantly. Her eyes trained on me and she tensed.
I tilted my head as I gazed at her. She didn't look much different than she had before... well what I could remember.
That's what I'd hated the most. No matter how hard I would try to conjure up a memory... I could never get a clear picture of what she'd looked like.
But now she was right here standing in front of me.
Tears were pooling in her eyes and she smiled softly.
"Kaden." She said and I grinned.
I flew out of my chair and rushed at her and she opened her arms and caught me. Her warm arms enveloped me in a tight hug as she knelt down to my level.
"I missed you." I said softly into her hair and she shook with a soft sob.
"I missed you too baby." Mommy sighed and ran her fingers through my hair before kissing my forehead.
"Look at you. Oh my little pup." She said as she pulled away to gaze at me. She smiled.
"Come on guys I know y'all want a hug too." Mommy said as she looked at Dalton and Drew. The two didn't waste any time in engulfing her in an embrace.
In a few moments the sounds of blundering footsteps was prominent and Aunt Lexi and Uncle Mike came rushing into the kitchen.
"Katlyn!" They said practically in unison and literally tackled her.
A growl rumbled in my throat and everyone looked at me. I crossed my arms then grabbed my mother's hand.
"You can't jump on her like that." I spat and glared at them. My mother smirked and my dad chuckled.
"You tell 'em." My father said with a proud grin.
I loved seeing them smile.
I looked around and smiled. We were all together again. Everything would be okay.
