CHAPTER 55 - THE DADDY'S MESSAGE
They don’t know how long they stayed outside the emergency room until Liliana and Nicolo showed up. They were left at Montini’s residence to attend to the remaining guests and make sure they left the venue without any fuss.
"Montini famiglia?" The Doctor called out.
"Doctor how's my fiancé? Is she okay? The baby?" Ben bolted from his chair and rushed immediately to the attending Physician.
“I’ll answer one question at a time.” The Doctor stopped Ben as he looked at the chart.
“Sorry Doctor, we are just worried.” Eric apologized instead.
"I assume you are the father of the baby, am I correct?" The Doctor focused on Ben.
"Yes.” Ben confirmed.
“Are you aware that your fiancé is two months pregnant?” The intimidating Doctor asked.
“Not really but I’m very certain that the baby is mine.” He admitted.
“I see.” The doctor nodded.
“So, how are they? Please tell me they are all right." Ben is getting impatient.
“It's a miracle we were able to get a hold of them and they are not out of danger. We will transfer Ms. Montini to recovery room soon and one of the nurses will notify the room number.” The Door announced and they all felt relief.
“Why did my daughter faint? Can you tell us about it?” Mr. Montini speaks.
"The reason for her unconsciousness is her blood pressure drops very low and the stress level was too high causing her to bleed. Those two combinations are really not good during the first tri semester of pregnancy because it can trigger the possibility of having a miscarriage.” The Doctor explained.
“Is there any way for us to avoid this from happening again?” Nicolo asked this time.
“Please avoid things or words that will stress and pressure her; also she needs to get enough supplements for her blood to keep the mother and child healthy. There's still a risk she will have miscarriage if she experienced this again.” The Doctor instructed them.
Ben made a mental note of all the things that he heard from the Doctor and he will make sure she is well taken care of and no stress come her way and their child.
"Thank so much for saving our daughter and our grand child's life Doctor." Mr. and Mrs. Montini shook hands with him.
"It's our job but for the meanwhile she will be staying here until her condition gets better." The Doctor reminded us.
"Noted, thank you so much Doctor." Ben thanked the Physician before leaving.
After a while the nurse came and informed them that Courtney is already transferred to room 162 and will probably wake up any minute. Without further ado, Ben rushed to the elevator to find the floor where his family is. Hearing the word family brings smile to his face.
“I'm going to be a father!” He proclaimed as he entered the elevator.
Few people looked at him smiling while others just ignored him but it’s okay what matter is he will be seeing his family in any minute. After reaching the sixth floor, he followed the direction and was able to locate his fiancée room. He opened the door widely and saw Courtney lying on the bed being assisted by the Nurse.
“Hi little man, its Daddy here… I want you to know that Mommy and I loves you so much and we are excited to meet you but for now, stay inside mommy’s tummy until you’re ready to see the world, okay?” Ben kissed Courtney’s stomach.
The nurse on standby find it very sweet and she couldn’t resist to talk to Ben.
“That’s the sweetest message I heard from a newly father.” She said smiling.
“Thanks but I do hope my child can understand me.” He gave a warm smile in return.
“Definitely, babies can recognize their parents’ voice that’s why we encourage every new father to talk to their babies while inside the womb.” The Nurse explained.
“Wow! That’s amazing, I guess I have to learn a lot, thanks.” He replied in time Courtney began stirring up.
"Benj...” Courtney began stirring up.
“Hi hunny, I'm so glad you're okay.” Ben approached his fiancée.
“What happened?” She recognized the hospital’s room and saw the Nurse.
“You were brought to the ER few hours ago because you fainted --.” The Nurse is explaining when got interrupted.
“The baby?” She asked in panic and touched her stomach.
“Don’t worry hunny, you and the baby are fine.” Ben helped Courtney who is trying to sit down.
“I’ll call the Doctor so she can explain it more to you.” The Nurse walked away hastily.
“I’m so worried about you and our baby -- I thought I'm going to lose you both -- please don't scare me like that again." Ben placed a hand on her visible stomach bump.
“We won’t, I promise.” She put her hand on top of Ben’s.
“I just wondered why you didn’t tell it so soon I could’ve have been more careful to you.” He got furrowed brows.
“I'm sorry if you just found out about it, believe me I was about to tell you when I lost my balance and –-” Courtney tried to explain.
“Shhh just relax hunny; I know you and I believe you.” Ben kissed her forehead.
“Are you happy about the baby?” Courtney wants to know how he feels about it.
“I’m way beyond that hunny; I’m very happy and I want to be with you and our child every step of the way. I will go to every appointment you have each month and make sure you’re stress free.” He continues rubbing the stomach gently.
“I thought you’ll be mad.” She has a creased forehead.
“Of course not; as a matter of fact I’m so excited that we are going to be parents soon. I promise I will be with you every Doctor’s appointment and every minute, because from now on you and our little man here will be my priority.” Ben looked her in the eyes.
“How sure are you that it’s a boy? What if it’s a girl?” Courtney raised an eyebrow.
“No matter what gender it is, we will love him or him no matter what. I will be forever thankful to you for giving me such wonderful kid or kids someday.” He replied with full smile.
“Thank you too for giving me the best birthday present that I’ll treasure forever too.” Her eyes are forming with tears.
“Thank you for giving me the chance and I promise I will not waste that and make you the happiest wife.” He smiled contentedly.
“I love you so much.” Ben wiped her tears.
“I love you too.” Courtney replied lovingly.
They were on that moment when the same Doctor came in together with the same attending Nurse.
