New Name(Jessie's Diary)
Elena's Pov:
It's been a month since Brianne's death, and here I was, in my room helpless. Jonathan was here with me, his face held no expression as I told him everything that happened while he was absent. He was discharged two days ago, he hadn't fully recovered from his wounds, but he was okay.
A month ago when the case was reported to the authorities, some of them stopped by to search for any clue they could use to find the killer. And had taken pictures of this incident. The knife of this killer had been said to have had no fingerprint, but fortunately, he'd left other traces.
His footprint, which contained a mixture of oil and sand, indicated he had come into the house from the kitchen window. Jacob and Bella were asked certain questions about their daughter. To them, she was always bright and calm like she'd always been. But to me, I knew she wasn't alright, both of us faced the same problems, but we had said nothing to anyone. I knew she was scared, I was too, if we had reported earlier, perhaps all this wouldn't have happened.
When the questioning got to me, the detective I later knew to be Miss Hadley Lockwood, had been saying some things I was absent-minded about. My thoughts were still on Anne until she asked;
'Did you witness the incident?'
'No.'
'Where were you when the incident happened?'
'At home.'
'And I hear your house is just two blocks away from hers?'
'Yes.'
'Did you notice anyone suspicious, moving towards the direction of her house?'
'No.'
She leaned closer and clutched her hand on the desk before us. 'Are there witnesses that can lay more emphasis on this incident? Perhaps a neighbour?'
'I don't know.' I shook my head.
'Is there anything you might want to share in the case of this incident? Mayhap your reaction, or noticing anyone suspicious, either once or twice or multiple times?'
I sighed as I reached into my jeans pocket. My phone was in there, and I had no choice but to show her what had bothered me these days. The person who had been sending threat messages hadn't stopped. He knew where I was located, he could kill me anytime. But he has refused to take any more steps, or that was what I thought. Maybe he was waiting for a perfect time to take and kill me. But it was evident that he was really after me and not Anne, he had killed her for a reason, or no reason at all. I hoped all the pressure I was going through wouldn't cause me high blood pressure.
Handing my phone to her, I watched as her eyes scanned the messages. Her eyebrows were slightly furrowed, and I could see the stress mark which lined from each side of her nose, tucking deeper as she wrinkled her nose. Her eyes found mine again, and then she gently placed my phone on the table, her eyes not leaving mine.
'When did you receive this message?'
'Six months ago."
'Can you recall the month, or the day you received this?'
'In the month of November, on Tuesday."
'Do you know who might have sent this?'
'No.'
'Did you report this case to the authorities?',
'No.'
'Can you explain why?'
'I hadn't taken this case too seriously, but I knew the harm it could bring. We took things into our own hands and ignored the threat."
'Do you have anything else to say, that I haven't asked you yet?'
I shook my head.
"I have a feeling he's after you too," Jonathan said without an expression.
"I know," I said. "He wants me and I don't understand why. If it's me he wants, why did he kill Anne?"
Jonathan was silent for a while. "I'm not quite sure but, maybe, maybe he saw Brie as an obstacle, and he wanted to get her out of his way."
I frowned in confusion. "But that doesn't make any sense, how would he have seen her as an obstacle when he could have come straight for me?" I could see Jonathan's confusion was as deep as mine.
"You're right."
I got a massage. I thought it was Aiden, because he'd been texting me the past few days, and I wasn't in the mood to talk to him. With everything I was going through, and with all the things he'd said to me? I had fallen out of love with Aiden. And I was in no way going back to being obsessed with Aiden, he had Adrian.
Now looking at the names, why did the first letter of my name have to start with an A like both of them? I used to be happy about it, I used to love it that way, cause it made me feel proud that I would have a nice boyfriend whose name had the same first letter as mine. But Aiden really made me hate my name. He wasn't the one who texted though, it was someone I didn't know.
"Who is that?" Jonathan asked and I turned to him. We both knew something about being discreet from now on since we couldn't go out just anyhow anymore. And I knew if I told Jonah the truth, he wouldn't allow me to leave.
"Just Aiden." I noticed his lips twitch in annoyance.
"It would have been better if he was, and not some stranger." My eyes automatically widened. "I knew you were lying."
"Be careful." Was the only thing he said before I exited my room. But then I looked back at my phone and read the message again. My brows furrowed on their own accord and it got me wondering. Why me? Who was this text from and why would anyone text me this sort of message out of the blue?
'Femme fatale.' It read. What was that supposed to mean? I suddenly heard a sound from the corner and jerked towards it.
"Hello, is anyone there?" I asked as I continued to shuffle towards the sound's origin. This place was a no-go area, and I had broken that rule twice. I could hear nothing but my footsteps as I got closer, holding onto my phone while I continued to check if I had come to the right address.
I was all of a sudden regretting that I came here in the first place. I could have just stayed home and remained safe, instead of coming here where there's no security. I was getting scared with each step I took, causing the hairs on my arm to stand when I heard a voice behind me.
"I'm glad you came." Said a feminine voice, which sounded so familiar. I had to squeeze my face and rack my brain at who owned the voice, it was one I hadn't heard in a long time. I slowly whirled to see the voice's owner. I never thought I'd be more shocked to see someone I thought was dead as my eyes unintentionally widened.
"Purity?"
