NEW GAME(JESSIE'S DIARY)
Elena's Pov
"Purity?"
I was shocked to see her. She looked a lot different from the last time I saw her, her face looked paler, and her hair was shorter, her lips weren't the same pink-coloured they used to be, but she'd gained more weight, even though her cheeks looked otherwise. It caused me to wonder how long this girl stayed under the roof of an abusive home. She just disappeared from everyone, without any information about her welfare. I'm sure Brianne would have known but chose to be quiet about it to avoid dragging too much attention under Purity's request of course.
"Where have you been Purity?" I said, not moving from the shock I was still in. I had thought I was staring at a ghost, and she was staring at me with baby-blue eyes. "How did you get my number?"
She chuckled. "I had a friend of mine track you for me."
"I couldn't reach Brianne, so I called you instead." She said, I never thought I would be so glad to see someone I thought was going to steal my friend. Anne would have been so glad to see Purity, except that she was dead now, and Purity was unaware. "How is she?"
Should I, or should I not tell her? It would hurt her feelings if she knew because Anne was her only friend. She would later get to find out the truth, so there wasn't any point keeping it away from her.
"She....I hesitated, and then sighed....she's dead".
"What?" She sounded just like me when I heard the news too. I nodded, and she shook her head in disbelief. "You're lying." She said and seriously I understood the feeling. I couldn't believe it either. "No, it can't be. Brianne can't just die like that..." Her eyes were getting teary.
"She was killed in cold blood when she wanted to have a drink in the kitchen. Her killer is still being traced."
She inhaled before regaining her composure.
"Are you alright?"
"No." She said, "Brianne's dead, how can I be okay?"
I haven't seen this side of Purity before, and it was astonishing. But she was right, nobody had been okay after Anne's death, me included. Both Purity and I were sitting on the floor, and we both leaned on the brick behind us.
"Where were you?" I asked. "Anne and I thought you were dead."
She didn't look at me. "With people that cared about me. But I thought about Brianne throughout. I couldn't wait to see her again, until this death case." She sniffed. "Who could have killed her?"
I looked down at my feet. "Nobody knows yet. What about your father?" I was trying to keep her mind off Anne for a while, and this question worked.
Her head jerked to my side. "He's been punished for his sins. Unfortunately not by me." I was speechless.
"How did you get him?"
"I didn't, someone did and is now torturing him. Don't ask me because I don't know where either."
It's been long since Purity and I have seen each other that I began itching the back of my neck nervously.
"Look Purity, I know I haven't been nice to you...."
Purity's smile cut my words. "I don't blame you for that. I would have done the same thing to anyone else if I still had a friend like Brianne." She said.
There was another minute of silence before she spoke up. "I ran away from my father's apartment."
"Why?" I glanced at her. "I mean..did you have anywhere else to go?" She shook her head.
"I got adopted by a woman and she turned out to be someone I never expected she could be." She stated and I had a feeling.
"You sent me the message didn't you?"
"I knew you both were in trouble. Now it's only you. I never expected Brianne would die after those warnings." She said
"How did you know that?"
"Since Brianne's killer couldn't only be after her, perhaps he wanted to use her as a means to get to you. Or perhaps she was an obstruction."
Jonathan had mentioned that, but I was still confused. "How?" Purity shrugged.
"Who knows? But he tried to kill you, and then Brianne on the same night." She brooded. "Didn't he?"
"Yeah. How did you.."
"It doesn't matter how I got to know. What matters now is our safety. But there's no way a person could be in two places at the same time. Maybe they were two, but they would have been sent by the same person."
"If that's the case, one of them must be Anne's killer. And I'm the next."
"We're gonna get them. All we need is a team."
Buzz buzz buzz
My phone vibrated in my pocket, and I took it out. "Hello."
"Jessie, where are you?!" It was my foster mum, she was panicking about something.
"I'm in my friend's place is everything alright?"
"Stay where you are. Please, don't come home!" I could hear noises from the background.
What?
"Mu.. She hung the phone up.
What is going on?
"Something's wrong. I have to go now."
"What happened?"
"I think my family is under attack." I dashed toward my car and ran a little more till I was able to grab the handle. I was afraid, not frightened. With the way my mother had sounded, I needed to go to them, and oh my God...Jonathan. I moved the gear forward as I turned my car on, and sped off.
I walked into my house. I looked everywhere and just didn't know what to do with my situation anymore. I had no idea why all this was happening to me and why this so-called person was after me. When I stepped out of the car. At this point, I felt really helpless. First, my real parents were gone, and now my foster parents are dead. I tried to hold in my tears as I sat on the stairs. If this person wanted to come at me he should have just come at me directly. Why did he have to kill my parents? I saw someone step onto the threshold and raised my gaze to see Leo. His eyes gave nothing away and honestly, I was used to him being that way because I understood that that was his way of showing remorse. Then we both heard a honk which caught our attention. I was stunned to see that Purity had foll
owed us all along.
"Do you now understand why I sent you that message?"
I momentarily contemplated.
"Femme fatale," I whispered.
"What do you say?" She asked and I glanced up at her.
In order to avenge Brianne and my foster parents I saw no other way.
I had no other choice.
