UNCOVERED(Jessie's Diary)
Elena's POV:
I'd learned a lot about Leo and Jessie's relationship since the past few days I've been reading Jessie's diary and of course, she'd obviously taken a liking to him from what I've seen so far.
I continued to read...
'...Leo cared about me, I could see it in his eyes but I wasn't sure if his feelings towards me were still the same. There was something strange about him, his calm way of talking, his looks, his small smiles, his charm, his coolness. Not only that, but his whisper and his touch, reminded me of the day I was saved from being killed. Was I growing feelings for two people? It's complicated.
I hadn't realized I was brooding for so long till I was snapped out of it by the mention of my name. And I knew Leo had just introduced me.
"Jessie?" His mum asked.
"Yes. It's a pleasure meeting you."
"Oh, it is a pleasure to meet you too Jessie. I'm Kira." She observed me for a while. "You're so pretty no wonder Leo hasn't kept his eyes off you since you arrived." I glanced at Leo who quickly took his eyes away, and I could spot a shade of pink on his cheek. I internally giggled, it was the first time I would ever see Leo blush. Then it hit me. 'You're so pretty', nobody has ever told me that before. It was the first time someone ever called me that. And I never saw myself as pretty, when all Aiden did was reject me. Did Leo think me, pretty? I bit my lower lips to avoid making the heat running to my cheeks obvious.
"Leo has never mentioned he had a crush on any girl before, except the time he was in 8th grade." She giggled as though she thought of something funny.
"Mum?" Leo called like he was indirectly telling her not to mention it. But I was interested, and it didn't seem like his mum wanted to listen to him either.
"He'd ran upstairs that day, upset that a female had rejected him. That was the first time I'd see my boy so upset about a female." She said forming a deeper funny tune with her voice, in a teasing kind of way. "I'm guessing you're that girl." I could see Leo biting his cheek from the corner of my eyes while I tried to hide my smile.
"Really?" Lorna asked, obviously shocked. And I found myself thinking of Leo as one who rarely revealed his emotions.
He sighed. "Mum, Jessie will be staying with us for a while."
There was a look of concern in Kira's eyes as she fixed her gaze on Leo. "Is everything alright?"
He nodded. "Everything's fine."
"Okay, let's continue our baking Lorraine." She said with a sincere smile and walked back to the kitchen. Lorna or Lorraine followed, but not before giving both me and Leo a curious look.
"Let's go," Leo said, and he led me upstairs, while I took in the fanciness of their house. There were paintings of nature on the walls of the corridor. Leo stopped at a white wooden door, then he twisted the handle, and opened it. I guessed the room would be Leo's because there are male-like designs everywhere. Did Leo have to be mature in everything?
The cream-coloured curtains were split in two to reveal the open windows and the city beyond it, each being held by a curtain holder, the room was coloured cream, with a medium-sized bed and a blanket and duvet spread neatly on it, dark marble flooring with flecks of white on them. There was an LG television on top of a well-polished wooden desk and on top of it were arranged television materials, and some other important items. And hung in front of his closet were socks that wouldn't reach your ankle if you wore them.
"This is your room?" I asked and he nodded. "It is wonderful," I said as I touched his bed, feeling the soft duvet as I examined the entire place again.
He walked towards his bed and sat down, taking a game control from under his bed. "Are you good with games?"
I beamed. "Yeah."
"Care to play with me?"
"Sure."
I moved towards the bed, sitting beside him, before taking the other remote. I could see the smirk on his face from the side of my eyes as I started the game. I knew it would take a lot of strength to not smile.
I chose to enjoy the moment even though I still had questions to ask him.
That night, when we went to sleep, he slept on the couch while I was on his bed. I was so grateful for it.
I ran as fast as I could, my family and friends were in danger. I was their only hope, my feet were bare as I felt the stone beneath them, but I ignored them. I could hear the voices, calling my name, they needed my help, Mum, Dad, Jonathan, Avary, and I could spot them in the distance. I didn't stop running even though I could hear someone's cackles, it wasn't nice, and I was sure he was the person putting them in so much pain.
Suddenly the noise stopped, and I wasn't running anymore. I was in a room, one with no bed or furniture, and I saw them, their bodies clutched to a chair with thick strong ropes. I dashed towards my Mum first but halted when she told me to run. I wasn't supposed to be there, she sounded like the way she did on the phone, and I didn't understand why.
Not why she had warned me, but why my family was killed. Who was doing all of this? I couldn't see him, but I could hear his laughter. I spotted a knife on my mum's neck as she mouthed 'run'. But I couldn't, I was glued to the ground, I wanted to help her. I wanted to attack the attacker, but I couldn't do so as I stared at my mum, tears rolling as the knife seemed to move with a sharp motion.
I gasped as I opened my eyes. My breathing was fast, and I brought my index finger to my eyes and felt a liquid moisture. Tears. I had cried through my nightmare, the thought made me scared for my family again. I hoped all was going to be well, I couldn't stand the look in my Mum's eyes. I sighed as I stared up at the ceiling, and prayed in my heart that everything was going to be alright.
"Are you alright?" Leo asked.
"I'm sorry I disturbed."
"You didn't, you were having a nightmare. Is it about Brianne, your parents?" He asked and I sighed.
"I'd rather not talk about it," I said and he didn't push further. "Leo, you've always been there for me, you always know where I am, you've fought for me once and it baffles me that you have a unique way of combatting. You also have a tattoo that I personally know isn't just any tattoo." I sat up. "Who are you really?"
"I've been hiding it for so long I guess it's time to say it." He stepped down from the couch and walked to his drawer before bringing out a gun.
"Leo." I shifted back against the bed. "Leo, what are you doing?"
"I'm not going to hurt you. The same logo is on this gun. It represents the mafia guild."
"So you're saying..."
"Yes, I'm a mafia."
