Chapter 42
Erica's POV
The drive to the restaurant was not so long as the restaurant was only a few blocks away from my office. I drove into the parking space and turned off my ignition.
I sat in my car, resting my head on the stereo, wondering how I was going to have to put up an appearance of been cool to be a bridesmaid in my baby daddy's wedding.
Like who does that?
I took a look at myself on the rear mirror and apply a few touch ups of makeup to conceal my already sulky face.
My eyes went to the gigantic building before me, there is little or no sign outside the building to show that there is a restaurant business going on inside.
Just the name of the hotel is what is posted outside the building.
I came down from my car and walked into the hotel, which was enormously big and beautiful. There were lots of guest coming in and out of the hotel.
I have always drove by but never really stopped to see what it looked like on the inside. But, from first impression, you can tell its a very expensive restaurant.
It took me a while to be able to find my way to the restaurant.
As soon as I was in, I saw Cassandra waving with a big grin. I guess that's what brides to be do, stay happy and cheerful all the time. But who will not be happy marrying Damian, he is a total package with an extra touch of been a jerk.
I walked to her suddenly, cautious of what I was wearing. Don't get me wrong, it was a beautiful dress, but you know that feeling when you walk into a place, where everybody is wearing a brand. you start thinking, oh I would have wore something better.
"how are you?" She asked with a bright smile as soon as I got closer to her
"I'm fine, thank you" I said faking a smile as I sat down opposite her.
As of that moment, I was everything but fine. I am dating a lunch date with someone that is getting married to my ex, that I think I might still have some sort of feelings for, even though I hate to admit it.
"So since you said, we barely knew each other, I figured we could start by having a lunch date" Cassandra said.
"That's a great idea" I said, looking around to see that this was not just a regular restaurant, its a hotel restaurant that caters primarily for its guest needs. So my guess is probably Cassandra is staying here at the hotel.
"This place is really nice" I said as my eyes kept taking in the interiors and guests of the restaurant.
There was a huge chandelier at the center of the restaurant with artwork of various famous artists nicely place on the wall.
It also had a little water fountain that have had bright out beautiful colors.
"Yes it is, Damian has asked that I stay here until after the wedding. He got me a suite, so I can be less saddled with home responsibility" She said with a happy face.
Is it just me, or is she trying to make me cry, and wish I was the one Damian was getting married to? Because if she is, she is succeeding.
"What would you like to take" she asked after we both went on silent for some time.
"I'm not really hungry, but any nice drink is okay by me, thanks" I said
"So how do you know my fiance, he already told me, but I want to hear it from you, since you are going to be my bridesmaid. its best we don't have or keep secrets from each other" she said, her tone a bit serious now.
I looked at her wondering why she would still go ahead to ask me to be her bridesmaid, if truly Damian has told her about me.
Like who does that?
"We were an item back in university, but that was over eight years ago"I answered truthfully.
"Do you still love him, I ask because I saw you at his place the other night, and you guys were too close for comfort" she said with a smirk
"What? .. puff...No I don't love him, I used to love him, but not anymore" I said laughing and wondering where this our little conversation was heading to.
"Why?" she questioned.
which threw me off guard completely, because frankly, I still find myself uncontrollably attracted to Damian. But I can't tell her that, I mean we are not even friends.
"Because he is getting married" I said and suddenly realized how dumb my answer was.
"So you still love him, but can't tell him because he is getting married" she questioned.
"No, I mean, aside the fact that he is getting married, I don't love him anymore" I said, trying to do some damage control.
Hopefully I don't get kicked of out as her bridesmaid after this our conversation.
"Are you sure about that? Because I don't want to be looking for my groom and my bridesmaid on my wedding day" she said with a bit of chuckle, which made me laugh.
"Yes, you can be rest assured, I don't love him" I said laughing, I can't believe how these lies slipped easily from my lips.
"So how did you guys know each other?" I asked her.
"Who, Damian? We have been friends for so long, and since our dads were very close friends and associate, they decided it will be best we get married to seal the family bond" she said blushing.
"So you guys are not in love or anything" I questioned.
A waiter brought the drinks she ordered, and placed them on the table.
"I love Damian a lot first as a friend. can't tell for him though, but I'm sure we will both be in in love after the ceremony" She said smiling.
How do people get matched by their parents without them been in love and then become happy afterwards?
My mind drifted back to the preacher son my mum was telling me about, what if he is my destined life partner?
But I have come to truly love and care for one person, even with our years apart, even with all the pains I have had to go through because of him, I found myself unable to move on without thinking about him.
I couldn't even bring myself to try getting to know the other guys around me, they just didn't give me the spark I had with him.
I know as humans we do not have a destined mate like the cliché werewolf stories we have read about, but we all have that special someone that came into our lives, and we found ourselves unable to move passed them
They may have been present for a little moment but we find our hearts still uncontrollably yawning for that one special person.
Damian is that person for me
And One thing is certain though, I can't be a preachers wife, like hell no!
"So I guess, we can make a toast to happily ever after then" I said to Cassandra lifting up my glass to hers.
"Cheers to happily ever after" I said
"Cheers" she chorused
"So, what are we starting with?" I asked after some moment of silent.
"We will be going to pick out some clothes for Damian on Friday, since he is picking my dress its only fair I pick his right?" she asked smiling
"So if we are picking his clothes, does that mean he will be there?" I asked unconsciously.
"Yes of course, he will be there for the fitting" She said smiling.
Cool, how bad can this get.
