Chapter 43
Erica's POV
"You are getting late, you need to hurry up" I said to Alex, who seem to be moving at his own pace in getting ready for school.
I had earlier decided to be the one taking him to school, since I had extra time on my hands. I also asked his nanny to use this time for her own leave, since she never really get to go on leave due to my tight schedule and all.
I'm his official babysitter, and the young man is making scream too damn much. A lot has changed about him, I find out new things about him every single day.
I am beginning to like this whole idea of been a bridesmaid. It gives lots of time to stay with my son at home, it has given me the opportunity to know my him better.
"Mum its Friday, I need to look good, I don't want Kim to see me like some jerk" He said, while coming out of his room in his blue jeans with a white superman T-shirt and on a white and red Nike canvass. He sure look like someone ready to party.
"Kim, who's Kim?" I asked, realizing I am just hearing that name for the first time.
"She is my girlfriend" he said rolling his eyes.
"Alex you are seven, you are not allowed to have a girlfriend" I said, as I watch him pick up his school bag
"Mum, I am almost eight, and who says I can't have a girlfriend? I mean, most boys in my class have girlfriends so why should I not have one?" He said, staring at me for explanation which I am very sure, I don't have time for.
It's Friday and I am suppose to follow Cassandra to go shopping for Damian's clothes.
"Okay, let's go, we are late" I said, as we quickly got to the car and I zoomed off.
Today is going to be one hectic day, how am I ever going to act indifferent before Damian and his bride to be.
"Don't worry mum, you are going to like her when you meet her" He said after some moment of silent in the car, his little voice breaking into my thoughts.
"Well, if you say so" I said.
Trying to completely blank out the possible thought of me been a grandma now.
I drove into the school parking lot and got a space to park my car. I came down and accompanied him to join the other kids on the attendance line.
The class teacher marks each child present before they are allowed into their classroom.
As soon as he enters his class, I quickly started walking back to my car. I was about entering my car when I was stopped by Mrs Jessica James.
She is the newly elected PTA president.
"Hi Erica" she said dramatically with a smile that I can't really tell if its real or fake due to her botched face.
Oh, and she was one year my senior in university.
"Hi Mrs James bond" I said, rolling my eyes.
"We don't get to see you at PTA meetings, and I thought I should find out why" she said.
Her over cosmetic enhance breast almost spilling from the off shoulder black cocktail gown she wore.
"I have been busy, and perhaps I always send his nanny to come on my behalf" I said, trying not to show my disgust for her sense of style.
"Oh Erica, I can understand the fact that you are a single mother and the pressure is sometimes too much, but you need to make out time for your son" she said making emphasis on the single mother as if its a disease or something.
"Jessica, my son is doing just fine ,and if I ever have a reason to complain about how things are been run here, as regards my child wellbeing I will let you know about it.
"Now if you would permit me, I have a job to go to" I said, and was about entering my car when I heard a little voice behind me.
"mom, where have you been" a little girl properly the same age with Alex, said in annoyance while referring to her mother who happens to Mrs James.
"Stop using that tune on your mother Kim" I heard Mrs James say to the child as my eyes went back to the little girl again.
Is this our Kim? Like really?
She looked exactly like her mother, only that she is younger and far more prettier.
"Hi Mrs Williams" the little girl said to me smiling.
"where is Alex" she asked while her eyes searches my car
"Hi Kim, Alex is in his class" I said while the possible thought of Alex getting married to Kim flashed through my mind
He is only seven, Erica, calm down, no one is stealing your son anytime soon.
"Let's go mum" the young woman screamed at her mum who looks disoriented from the little girl shout, while she turned to give me a fake smile as she walks off.
Hell no, I will never allow my son marry into that family.
I entered my car and turned on the ignition when I saw a message pop up on my phone screen. I opened to see a massage from an unknown number. I opened to read the content which says
come to the hotel now, we need to talk. Call me when you are at the reception.
Cassandra.
I wondered what Cassandra would probably want to talk about. Well, I guess I will be finding out soon enough.
I got to the hotel and walked in before I remembered she didn't tell me your room number, so I brought out my phone and started calling the number, but it was switched off.
Switched off?
How possible is that? I mean she texted me. I was getting frustrated and stares from the other guest and visitors made me miserable.
"Excuse me ma'am" I turned to see a waitress smiling at me.
"hi" I said, as I greeted her back with my smile.
"Please follow me, I have been asked to bring you to Miss Cassandra suit.
She said smiling.
"Oh, thank you" I said, and I followed her.
We got to the elevator and it took us to the top floor, for a moment there, I was getting uncomfortable because I expected the rooms not to be more then the tenth floor but here we were in the 100the and counting floor.
As soon as the elevator door opens, I stepped out only to see that she was still in and before I could ask her what is going on, the elevator door had closed.
That's definitely creepy.
I turned to see that the entire floor was empty and there was only one door that appears to be slightly opened.
I walked towards the door carefully, instantly regretting my poor choice of shoes, as the quiet and serene environment seem to be violated by the sound of my heels.
I gently pushed the door open to see a figure, a familiar figure, staring deep into my eyes, as I froze on the spot.
"Hi Erica" Damian said with a glass of wine in his hand, and white shirt partly unbuttoned.
