Chapter 57 Party Time
KIA
After a week had passed, it would undoubtedly rank among the month's deadliest days. It was time for our midterm exams. I was the only person in the classroom when I entered it. My teacher gives me a test as soon as I sit down. I started to worry. The previous night, I studied hard for the exam. I was perplexed, nonetheless, as I regarded the exam. Because I am having trouble coming up with solutions, anxiety begins to take over my body.
I abruptly wake up in the middle of the night; my breathing is rapid and I'm sweating profusely on my forehead. Before my midterm exam last night, I experienced this nightmare. I had spent the previous week studying for this specific exam because I needed an A to pass and receive an A in the course. One of the most difficult times in my life had been the stress of that particular week.
There were times when I was on the verge of giving up, but I managed to pull myself together by breathing deeply when I was anxious, avoiding procrastination, and taking breaks when I needed them. I frequently discover that my brain is working too quickly for me to cope in daily life. This occurs as a result of its attempt to process as much information as possible as soon as feasible. My brain soon becomes overloaded, and I am unable to retain any of the knowledge. I stopped everything I was doing, closed my eyes, and took the deepest breath I could manage whenever it started to happen as I was studying for our midterm exam.
“Are you ready?” Ares asked as I was looking at the floor.
“I don’t have a choice even if I’m not,” I said, making him giggle.
“You can do it, hon. I believe in you. You just need to calm down and relax. Don’t stress too much, you might get blocked out.”
I was escorted all the way to school by him. Everyone seemed stressed when we arrived there. While walking, some of them are reading their reviews, some are munching on chocolate and almonds, and yet others are just strolling around. I arrived in the examination room on time. The first bell rang as I ascended the stairs. I hastened to the hallway and looked for the seat where my roll number should have been.
Miaree suddenly approached me, “Hey! Did you see Marcy? Are you in the same hall?”
“No, I guess we will be separated this time. Good luck, Miaree!” I said before she leave.
All of the test takers had settled into their assigned seats in less than five minutes. My heart was pumping quickly. I started to get anxious. The instructions were read aloud to the pupils by the test administrator. He advised the test-takers not to carry any questionable notes or papers with them during the testing period. The examinees, however, were permitted to keep their cash, bus passes, and entry tickets. The superintendent also forbade the candidates from using any technological devices, including cellphones.
The official seal on the envelope containing the exam papers was then broken by her. The hallway was very silent at this moment. I grew even tense. Then, the examinees received their question papers from the supervisors. As soon as I saw the exam paper, I became perplexed. I tried to read it, but I was unable to comprehend the questions. I tried reading the questions once more.
“According to Freud, what is the function of the ego?” I whispered as I read the questions.
This time, I understood all the questions and some of them seemed easy for me.
…I know this. It’s to mediate between impulsive drives and the moral conscience…
It was seen that several test takers were pacing the room. While others stared up at the exam room ceiling, some of them were focused on writing. Some people tried to talk and whisper. The supervisor accused an examinee of copying work from another after discovering them doing so. The hall was closed to them both. To others who were attempting to copy, this served as a severe warning.
As soon as the first bell rung, I had already begun to begin answering the questions. I started with the simple questions and moved on to the more challenging ones. One of the test takers eventually lost her balance since she was unwell after a while. She lost consciousness. She attracted everyone's attention. The doctor soon arrived and treated her. She recovered her composure, but the doctor recommended against making any further effort. She didn't finish her paper, so she exited the exam room.
Another bell rang. There were now only 30 minutes left. I finished my paper and went over the entire answer sheet. I made the necessary revisions to fix my careless errors. I tied all the extra sheets to my main answer book. Then there was the last and final bell. The superintendent of the hall announced that no one should write anything from that moment onwards.
When the final bell came, I, along with the other students, would be so excited that we would all hand in our answer sheets and sprint from the classroom while yelling and chanting. Even if the teacher yelled at us, we wouldn't hear a word she said. We'll run to the open field, where my classmates from each classroom will be waiting for us. I finally exited the examination room. Then we all began singing loudly, and some of us began to dance. Everyone wouldn't know what they were doing, making it a moment of cheerful lunacy.
I will always remember and think back on this intriguing and special event. I gained a lot of knowledge regarding the safety measures to be taken and the guidelines to adhere to when taking the exam. I had completed my midterm tests, and it was wonderful to be relieved of the weight of my coursework and lectures.
After the initial outburst of joy and happiness, I and my friends discuss our plans for the vacation.
“Mhm… I have plans to visit my uncle who lives in a beautiful countryside village. He has been asking me to visit him for a long time, and I guess this is the right time to visit him.” Miaree answered.
“Well, I haven’t thought about it, but I guess I will just spend it with my family in our province. How about you, Kianna?” Marcy asked.
“I don’t know. I haven’t talked about it with Ares. If he isn’t busy next month, maybe I will ask him for out of town.”
“Girls! How about we have a small party before each one of us leaves home for the vacation?” Marcy interjected.
“That’s great!” Miaree said, looking excited.
“Sure!”
Miaree suddenly walked forward, “It’s on me! I will tell my assistant to prepare a party for us!”
The two of us agreed. We immediately went home, and since it would be held at night, I cleaned the house first and watched some movies while waiting for Ares. It was around nine at night. I took a shower and changed into an embossed floral print mini dress with a square collar, short sleeves, slim waist, and side zip fastener. I also grabbed my white sandals and put them on. After blow-drying and straightening my black hair, I immediately grabbed my phone and dialed Ares’ number.
Buzz— Buzz— Buzz— Buzz—
[Yes, hon?]
“Hon, we are having a small party tonight. I was waiting for you to tell you, but I guess you will get home late, so I decided to call you instead. Anyway, I’m currently preparing right now.”
[Tonight? What time? Maybe I can go and take you there—]
“Don’t worry, I can manage. Just text me when you get home!”
[Alright. Take care of yourself. Send me your location so that I can pick you up after.]
“Alright!”
-
Five minutes after our call ended, I heard a ringing sound. It’s from Marcy. I was about to answer it when he suddenly dropped the call.
…What is wrong with him?...
I abruptly heard a horn coming from my driveway. When I hurried outside to see who it was and heard what sounded like a dying whale, I knew right away that it was Marcy and that he had come so that we could go to the party.
We reached a fantastic mansion. Miaree probably reserved it for us. Thought it would just be the three of us having a party, but the entire class is present. Vera must also be present, I suppose. I noticed an enchanted dinner table when we first arrived. It appeared so classy. Anyone may enjoy the room because of it. Lavender was detected by one individual, and cookies by another. There was a short hallway that went into a large room where she opened the French doors for the visitors.
Then the party started!
To the beat of the awful, pointless music, crazy, inebriated students were swaying their hips and making every suggestive move they could think of. The girls were hanging out all around, taking pictures, and slurring the guys' every word as they urgently tried to be laid.
Partying seldom ends well; I could already tell that tomorrow morning I would regret my choices, but not as much as Lloyd would. His parents recently put him under house arrest since he was failing his classes, so I suppose destroying the entire house was his way of getting back at them.
Bright red and green lights flash rapidly. My first mansion party was held here. Among the crowd, I recognized some faces. Some individuals, whose presence here I would have never anticipated, Miaree rushed up to me as soon as one of my friends noticed that I had entered the room and attempted to speak to me over the loudspeakers that were right next to us.
"You want one?"
The crystal bottle in her hand caught my attention as I turned to see what she was pointing to. She shifted from side to side, her movements causing the sparkling gold liquid within the bottle to swing.
After the third bottle, things become hazy. I looked around the room, wondering if this was really me and why I was acting in this way. As I observed, people were having a good time. Everything went dark at that point.
