Chapter 72 Ace
KIA
I can’t believe it — I can't believe I scored the highest out of the entire batch. I did not imagine being able to do that because I was aware of my lack of confidence in all of the responses I had given on the exam day. I was praying to pass the exam even with not-so-high grades, but then it ended up that I was the highest!
“Girl? — Kianna, are you still there?”
My thoughts were interrupted when Miaree suddenly spoke. “Sorry, sorry! Anyways, thank you for informing me, Miaree! See you at school—”
“Wait, girl! The result still hasn’t been posted, so please act like you didn’t know anything when they announced it. Congratulations! How about a party for the three of us?” Miaree asked.
“Party? Mhmm… You know that day when we partied at that mansion? I was so drunk that night and I can’t remember anything I did, so it’s a no for me."
“Okay… How about dinner? You can invite your husband if you want.”
“Yeah, that sounds great. I will make sure to tell Ares. Anyway, I gotta go. I still need to help Ares with our breakfast. See you at school!” I said before ending the call. It was such good timing since Ares came out of the kitchen with the chicken macaroni soup that I requested.
“Hon, let’s eat. Your chicken macaroni soup is ready!”
I couldn't hold back and quickly ran towards Ares. He look at me surprised when I suddenly started jumping in joy for no apparent reason.
"Why is my hon so happy? Are you excited about your chicken macaroni soup?” Ares asked as he set the table and placed the bowl of chicken macaroni soup. The smell of chicken macaroni soup permeates the whole house. The smell makes me full already.
“Mhmm… Yeah, I am so excited to taste your special chicken macaroni soup that you cooked for me, but guess what, hon, there is something else!” I chirped.
“Oh, really? What is it? — Wait! Have a seat first,” he said as he helped me to sit down, “Alright, what is that good news that makes my wife so happy this morning?” he asked, looking interested in getting to know the reason why I was feeling joyful today.
“Well… I just realized that I am so blessed today. First is that you made me my favorite comfort food and just now I received a call from Miaree.”
“What did she say?”
“She said that I passed our midterm exam!” I exulted, pumping my fist in the air in delight.
“You mean, the exam you took before your vacation?”
“Yes!”
“Wow! Congratulations, hon! I am so proud of you! You know what? We need to celebrate that achievement of yours. How about dinner in a fancy restaurant tonight?” Ares suggested.
“About that… Actually, to tell you honestly, Miaree already invited both of us to dinner at her uncle’s restaurant. It will just be us and my friend and their family. A small celebration since the three of us passed the exam.”
“Is that so? There’s no problem with that—”
“Really? You don’t have a lot of things to do?”
“Uhm— I will make time for you, hon. Don’t worry about my schedule. I will just request an early out from my boss so that we can celebrate you and your friend's achievement.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, I am sure. Hurry, eat your chicken macaroni soup before it gets cold,” he said, and we started eating. It tasted delicious and I can’t believe that he perfected it on his first try.
While I enjoy the creamy soup of my chicken macaroni soup, I can’t stop thinking about how grateful and happy I am right now. Things in life will make us miserable, but if I consider all the reasons I have to be joyful already, it would be insane to be even a little bit unhappy. Nobody owes us anything in life, and yet despite this, we are gifted with everything. We don't deserve anything. Realizing that we have so much, despite the fact that we don't deserve it, makes me happy. I'll make an effort to make that my happiness. I make an effort to be appreciative of what I have, and that makes me happy. I get dissatisfied when I reflect on what I don't have, what I desire, and what I do have but don't like. But then I realized that those are the things that will motivate me to work hard enough so that I can gradually achieve all of the things that I want but do not currently have. Exactly like my exam. I know I worked hard enough in the days leading up to the exam to review and study all of the topics we covered throughout the semester, and thank God, my efforts were rewarded. My happiness is everything I've been given and every moment in between.
When we finished eating, Ares immediately prepared himself while I packed my bag. After that, we get into the car to leave for school and for work. Ares drives for half an hour all the way to school while we listen to 90.7 Love Radio because it was the first station that played when he opened the radio. As we arrived at the school, I immediately kissed Ares goodbye and got off the car to enter the university. Perfect timing since I arrived at the classroom before the professor started talking in front of the class.
“Good morning, Miss!” I greeted with a smile.
“Good morning, Miss Saavedra! Have a seat since I will be announcing a very special thing this morning. I know every one of you is waiting for this moment, so here it is!” the professor said as she grabbed an envelope inside her bag.
The class started getting louder as they realized that our grades on the midterm exam would be announced today. The guys started banging the table to create noise, some whistling, and some looking very nervous.
“Alright, starting with Aguilar, you got 1.75… Vicente, 1.50… Quirino, 2.00… Balbuena, 1.58… Ishii, 1.25… — Alright, and for the last one, Miss Saavedra, you got…”
“I am sure that she failed the exam." I heard Vera said from behind but I don’t mind her and just smirked when Miss started announcing my grade. I didn't expect to achieve the grade that I did.
“Congratulations, Miss Saavedra, you got the perfect grade of 1.00! And that’s not it — you are also the highest out of the entire batch of Psychology! Again, congratulations! Everyone let’s give a round of applause for the pride of our section Miss Saavedra! You made us proud, hija!”
I'm at a loss for words in response to what is going on. I only know one thing about myself: I am very happy. My classmates began approaching me to congratulate me, and it feels great to see everyone appreciate my efforts.
