Chapter 39
Nancy and Mwanajuma continued to explore so many ways of luring men to give them money until it was evening. That day, Nancy did not even go to the gym.
“I now agree with you,” Mwanajuma said finally, “Men are so gullible, they easily believe women.”
“I know most ladies online are lying to men. Whenever you see a lady claiming she is in some problem and wants assistance, most of them are not even needy, they just do not want to work but to chop men’s money for survival.” Nancy said.
“But then again, someone might be in genuine need.” Mwanajuma said.
“Like?” Nancy asked.
“She may be in need like, her child is sick, or her rent is overdue and she has lost her job, or she has no money and cannot buy supper, etc. what if men comes to know women are lying and stop assisting those who genuinely need their assistance?” Mwanajuma asked.
“Then if she does not get, that is her own stupidity. She should use her feminine wits and get money she wants to get. In the first place, she should not even be suffering as long as she is a woman.” Nancy said.
“Ok.” Mwanajuma replied for lack of something else to say.
----
That evening after Mwanajuma was gone, Nancy got online to continue with what she does best, con men. She logged into a Facebook group for singles who wanted to mingle with others and immediately sent a photo of her with a caption “single and willing to mingle.” In the photo, she had sat on a chair with a green dress that had a slit showing all her left thigh.
As usual, comments flowed like they had been released from somewhere with men praising her beauty. Nancy would reply to most of them trying to entice some men to probably go to her inbox where she would strike.
Some men as usual headed to her inbox. She began chatting with them. They were so many such that she was even unable to reply to all messages. Some were Indian men who were just sending her their dicks.
Nancy concentrated on the men who were from Kenya. She could see how men were bragging to her in her inbox how they can take her for big holidays, how they can drive her crazy and so many other things. She just smiled as she chatted with them. Those who would seem like they had some potential she would reply with, “Then buy for me supper to prove to me you can take me for such a nice holiday.”
Some men would simply go away after that request; however, some began to request for her number. Nancy began to get money to her Mpesa. Some would call first to confirm and then send to her some money. The money ranged from Kshs 300 while one man seemed to be too generous such that he sent her Kshs 7,000! He then began to chat with her in her WhatsApp.
The man’s name was Edgar.
EDGAR: I really wish to meet you, I am serious.
NANCY: I am also serious and wish to meet you. I love you already.
EDGAR: Me too, I need a wife. I can see you can make a good wife.
NANCY: You too can make a good husband. Imagine I did not have money to pay rent and now I have thanks to you.
EDGAR: That is small, I will give you even more when we meet and you accept me.
NANCY: You can see me anytime.
EDGAR: But I am far, I am in Nakuru and can see you are from Mombasa.
NANCY: Mtwapa.
EDGAR: I will be coming to Mombasa the day after tomorrow. I am coming to see someone at the port and then fly back.
NANCY: Wow! so you fly instead of driving?
EDGAR: Yes, but the company caters for that.
NANCY: Seems you work in a large company.
EDGAR: Not really, when you love your employees you do much for them to make them work better. I am just lucky to work here.
NANCY: Ok, you are very much welcome. Come and meet me. I also want to meet you; you are so handsome.
Nancy was only flattering Edgar. The man was short, very short, probably 4 feet 10 inches and fat. Nancy judged he must be a Kalenjin from how his teeth protruded in most of his photos and his dark skin. He however was very smart except in most of his photos he had a brown jacket.
EDGAR: Thank you. You are also such a beauty.
NANCY: Looking forward to meet you, handsome!
EDGAR: I have to go, take care.
t Nancy did not know, Edgar been admiring her for a long time such that when he began chatting with her, he thought it was a golden opportunity for him to win her.
-----
As he had said, Edgar called Nancy as soon as he landed in Mombasa airport.
EDGAR: I am right here at airport; I will be in port at around 10 am. Then we can meet at 2 pm in Mombasa.
Nancy began to think of which lie to tell Edgar.
NANCY: Ok, I am in Mtwapa. I will probably meet you.
EDGAR: Why say probably? What is wrong?
NANCY: Ok, I will meet you, I had a meeting at the school where my child attends but I can postpone it. (Nancy said after thinking of what lie to tell but found none. Edgar sounded so innocent and convincing such that she even felt guilty to try to evade him.)
EDGAR: Ok, see you then.
Nancy got ready to go and meet Edgar. She thought the man was too small to be a threat to her in any way and besides, they were meeting at a public place.
Nancy wore a red short dress that hung slightly above her knees. She carried a small brown handbag where she put her valuables and set to go to Mombasa to meet Edgar. She even made arrangements with Daisy who was home to pick for the daughter for her in case she was to be late.
Nancy and Edgar agreed to meet Blue Room Hotel in Mombasa, her favorite hotel whenever she was in Mombasa and wanted to eat. She even got there before Edgar who was held up somewhere and ordered for a glass of avocado juice which she sipped slowly. Some man tried to join her but Nancy put him off by telling him, “I am waiting for my husband to come and join me…”
Edgar arrived about 20 minutes after Nancy got to the hotel. Nancy knew it was him when he walked into the hotel. She felt a bit embarrassed after seeing how short he was. He was however slightly built more than how he seemed in the photos. He wore a brown pair of jeans, open shoes and a dark grey T-shirt.
Edgar immediately identified Nancy. He went straight to where she sat. For wanting to seem excited to meet him, Nancy stood up to give him a hug. She felt odd hugging someone way shorter than her.
“Oh! nice to meet you!” Nancy told Edgah.
“Nice to meet you too. I am Edgar, we chatted over WhatsApp and we have been talking over the phone.” Edgar said.
“And I am Nancy.” Nancy said.
“And as beautiful as I thought.” Edgar said. He then motioned a waiter to come and serve him.
Nancy studied him. She even began thinking: has this man ever kissed anyone in his life? He sure looks like a warthog. He had protruding teeth that were so white a sharp contrast to his very dark skin.
As Edgar was ordering, he told Nancy, “Feel free to order whatever you want.”
Nancy ordered some more but kept it simple.
However, when Edgar began to eat, he put aside the spoon, the fork and the small knife provided. He even motioned the waiter to wash his hands and he began eating the chicken in front of him with his hands. He was biting the meat as if he wanted to finish eating and start eating his hands.
“Eat, dear, eat…” Edgar told Nancy.
People began turning to look at Edgar as he chewed loudly and licked his fingers as he ate. He was also into talking when eating but Nancy hardly paid attention with whatever Edgar was saying.
“You are so silent.” Edgar told Nancy.
“I am normally a silent lady.” Nancy said.
Then after eating, Edgar used the tissues that were there to wipe his hands after licking them. Some people in other tables were giggling.
What sort of an embarrassment have I set myself into? Nancy asked herself feeling nauseated already.
“Nancy, where are you from? I can tell you are not from coast.” Edgar asked.
“What makes you think I am not from Coast?” Nancy asked him.
“Your shape, your skin and nice legs. This is only found from our sisters from the lake.” Edgar said. Nancy felt flattered and smiled.
“And I can tell you outright that you are from rift valley, a Kalenjin too…” Nancy said so looking at his teeth. As soon as she finished saying that statement, some girls who were listening from the next table burst out laughing.
