Chapter 19 The Day After The Rescue
Angela POV
Flashes of the events run through my mind. The wolf, Deanne, the blood, and the pain of fangs coming into my mouth for the first time. As I walked in the darkness, looking for my friend, I saw her and the wolf. Deanne was in the box, screaming for help, but no one would help her. The wolves were doing as they pleased with the breeders.
Deanne's screams were weak as the wolf has his way with her. Her head hanging out of the box and her body trapped so the wolf could take her for his pleasure was painful for me to see. Her frail, bruised body was almost limp, moving with the wolf slightly as he laughed at her weak screams.
Seeing Deanne trapped with a wolf taking her caused a rage inside me. For the first time in a long time, I felt something. I felt anger. I have not felt this type of anger before, and this was different. I felt the stinging in my mouth and then realized that fangs were piercing my gums.
I growled and hissed at the wolf. He smiled at me, and that is when I jumped on him. I wrapped around his back and let my fangs sink into him. I started drinking from him. He screamed. He thrashed about with me on his back. He went to the ground, and I continue to suck his blood. I pulled at the skin on his neck. I wanted him dead. I would release him and then sink into another place on his body, drinking and draining him dry. Finally, he went limp.
When the wolf was limp, I released Deanne from her box and sat down on the floor with her in my arms. Deanne was limp. Her body was covered in bruises, and she was frail. "You came for me, Angela. You saved me," Deanne said.
I begin to cry, looking at the dead wolf. I am a murderer. I killed someone. Draco comes to me with Aspen and helps us out of the basement. I cannot get the image out of my mind. Blood everywhere. I am soaked in blood.
I feel Aspen holding me. I suddenly realize I am in the bed with Aspen. "Are you okay, my love?" Aspen asks me.
"I cannot get the images out of my mind. It will not stop. I killed someone. What if I kill someone else?" I ask Aspen.
He squeezes me tightly and kissing me on the cheek. "You saved Deanne, Angela. Please stop beating yourself up about what happened last night," Aspen says.
I lay in his arms. I keep seeing the blood, the basement, Deanne, it will not stop. My entire body is shaking as I lay beside Aspen. "Angela, you are not a murderer. You saved your friend. Put all of it behind you, my love," Aspen says softly.
"I will be fine. I just need to take a walk," I say.
I get out of the bed. Aspen gently touches my back as I get up. "You did the right thing. You have nothing to be ashamed of or upset about. You saved Deanne. That wolf could have and probably would have killed you and her. You saved your friend," Aspen says.
I lean down and kiss him. I try to smile, but all I can do is cry. Aspen gently wipes the tears from my face. "I will come with you. We can take a walk together," Aspen says.
"No, I need to talk to Draco. I want to check on Tia and Deanne," I say.
"Tia is preparing Fia for her funeral. Deanne is asleep. I think Draco is downstairs," Aspen says.
I go into the closet and grab something to wear. My clothes from last night are soaked in blood lying on the floor. Aspen must have showered me and changed my clothes. I do not remember anything after being in the van. I only remember the blood and Deanne and the dead wolf.
I go into the bathroom. I slip into my clothes. I brush my hair and pull it up into a ponytail. I look into the mirror at my swollen face. I have to pull myself together.
When I walk through the bedroom, Aspen is already asleep. He must be exhausted. I go out the bedroom door and down the hall. Fia's family is coming today for her. Tia is in their room, preparing her. I cannot help her. I do not want to see another dead body today. I have seen enough.
I go down the stairs. I wonder where Deanne is resting. I could peak in on her, but first, I need to see where exactly Draco is hiding. I need to ask him some questions. I hear something in the kitchen. I follow the clanking sounds in the kitchen. Draco is cooking breakfast.
"How is she?" I ask him as I enter the kitchen.
Draco is scrambling eggs and frying bacon. The toast pops out of the toaster. He grabs it and places it on a plate, then adds more toast to the toaster. He finally looks up at me.
"She is okay. Deanne went through a lot. The wolves want so bad to make babies like you. Of course, the vampires want hybrids, but the damn wolves, they want tribrids. It is almost impossible. Angela, you are the miracle baby," Draco says.
I walk closer to Draco. I take the butter and start buttering the toast. He keeps cooking. "Draco, I have to ask you some things about myself. I do not want to sound selfish, especially when Deanne is not feeling well," I say.
"No, I understand. You are worried about what happened last night. Is that it?" Draco asks.
"Yes, I killed a wolf. He deserved it, but that is not the point. Am I a vampire now?" I ask.
Draco starts putting eggs and bacon on the plates as I grab the toast out of the toaster and put two more pieces in the toaster. "Angela, you have always been a vampire, a fairy, and a wolf. You tapped into it last night under stress. You can easily tap into it, but you do not want to be any of those things. It would be best if you accepted who you are and use it to help others. There are only a few like you," Draco says.
"I have experienced more in the last few weeks than I can fully comprehend," I say.
Draco laughs and takes a plate. "I am taking this up to Tia. If you can take Deanne something to eat, that would help me out a lot," Draco says.
"Sure," I say. Is he avoiding my questions? He walks away with Tia's food. He stops, turns around.
"Listen, Angela; you are so fucking smart. There is not a person on this earth that I know that has your drive for knowledge. It is what keeps you in trouble all of the time. Keep going, find others like you. Do not stop until you find a way to save the women that are like you from the wolves. I know if anyone can do it, it is you," Draco says.
"I am not sure if I am the right person to help. I do not know anything about myself or my parents," I say.
"I know where your parents are, and if you want to see them, I can arrange that for you," Draco says.
I think for a moment. "I think I would like that a lot," I say.
"Just do you know, your mother and father have watched you over the years. You are a lot like your mother. She has that drive for knowledge too. Your father, he is a great man. I think you will find that the apple did not fall far from the tree," Draco says.
"Thank you, Draco. Thank you for everything," I say.
"Tell Deanne I will be up to check on her in a bit. I have to help Tia with Fia for a little while," Draco says.
"Okay, which room is she in?" I ask.
"She is in the last room on the left," Draco says.
"I will take care of her," I say.
Draco leaves with Tia's food to feed her. I get the juice out of the refrigerator and two glasses. I get a food tray from the cabinet and place a tray for Deanne and me on it. I set the juice and cups on the tray. Maybe we can eat and talk together like we did before all of this happened to us.
I carefully go up the stairs with our food. Aspen comes out of the room. Thank goodness. "Open Deanne's room for me; it is the last room. I am going to have breakfast with her and talk," I say.
Aspen takes the tray from me and carries it to Deanne's room. He opens the door and brings the food tray into the room. I go in behind him. Deanne is sleeping. Aspen set the tray down on the nightstand. He leans down and kisses me on the forehead.
"I will let you visit with your friend. If you need me, I will be helping Fia," Aspen says.
I gently touch Deanne. She opens her eyes. I smile at her. "I brought you breakfast," I say to her.
"I am starving," she says. She looks so weak.
I help her to sit up in the bed. " Draco cooked. I am only the food delivery person," I say.
" Draco is a terrible cook," Deanne says.
"I think he did okay," I say with a laugh. I pour her a glass of juice and hand it to her. She takes a sip, smiles, and then drops the juice. Her body starts convulsing.
I scream out. "HELP! HELP! HELP! DRACO! ASPEN!" I try to stabilize her, pulling her down into the bed and rolling her onto her side. There is foam coming from her mouth, and she is crying.
"DEANNE!" I scream.
