Chapter 12
THE BRIGHT SUN SEEPING THROUGH the window had woken Dawn up the next morning.
Her eyes fluttered lightly, trying to adjust her momentarily blurred vision as she attempted to move away from the bed only to realize that she had fallen asleep on David's naked chest.
Looking down, she groaned, mentally cursing at herself for letting him have his way with her. She made a motion to roll off him, but his warm arm snaked around her back and kept her in place.
"Are you trying to leave me again?" He asked, his hands rounding her tighter.
Dawn ignored his question and made another attempt to get off him but he held her firm, enjoying her struggle as it only added to the friction in which her breast rubbed against his chest.
"David let go" she murmured, scrambling on his chest.
David stifled his chuckle. "Thought you'd never talk to me"
"Wish I didn't have to" she muttered, narrowing her eyes to the side as she continued to fight free and when it didn't seem like she was going to stop, David sat on the bed and her legs automatically clung round his waist.
"Sleep well?" He asked, a lazy smile creeping on his face as his free hands came up to push her bangs beside her ears.
"Don't pretend that we're okay David. We had sex but I'm still very mad at you"
David pulled her closer so their bodies smashed. "I'm sorry" he muttered, his lips finding her throat and placing gentle kisses on it, and as much as she liked what was happening, she needed him to know that she was serious.
"David stop" she demanded, pushing herself a little bit off his chest. "I'm being serious right now"
David raised his head to look at her. He sighed. "Okay. What can I do to make it up to you?"
"Get me pregnant"
He cringed inwardly at the word.
"David why do you always get like this whenever I mention a baby. Is there something you're not telling me?"
He bit his full bottom lip and ran his hand through his thick hair — something he usually did when he was about to stall. "How long are you gonna continue this Dawn?"
"Till you're ready to give me answers"
"But I've told you we'll have kids just not now"
She narrowed her eyes.
"Well, If you don't mind, I have work to get ready for" she tried climbing off but he held her hips in place and frowned.
"It's Saturday. You have no work"
"I do now" she pushed herself off and picked up the pieces of her clothes scattered on the floor.
"Dawn come on"
"No" she strode over to the full-size mirror on the other end of the room to fix her hair into a high notch and as she did it, she could see in the mirror that he was making his way toward her.
She braced herself, expecting for him to touch her but instead, his hands cupped over her own and helped her wrap her hair into a neat bun.
"You didn't have to," she muttered, preparing to leave but he stopped her.
"I want you to stay," he whispered, gripping her hips and pulling her against him. "Please stay with me"
"You know I can't David. This is the only way you'll understand that for once, I'm being serious"
"But it doesn't have to be this way, I told you that—"
"That you're not ready" she interrupted, chuckling bitterly. "It's always the same excuses every time and I am tired" she flattened her hand on his chest. "And you know what, this is how it's going to be between us until you give me what I rightfully deserve." With that, she broke away from his grasp and made her way to the bathroom.
"Dawn, don't do this. You know I love you"
"Well sometimes love is just not enough"
She walked into the bathroom, shut the door, and simply sat on the floor.

LATER THAT DAY, just after ignoring the pleas of her husband and locating her way out of the house, Dawn found herself in Becky's condo, lounging on a sofa with a pack of chips and a bottle of soda occupying both her hands.
"So you still haven't told David about the party yet?" Becky asked, a bit incredulously as she looked through the pile of clothes she'd scattered all over the floor.
Dawn sighed, taking a sip out of her soda. "Do I have to?" she muttered, swirling the liquid in the cup.
"Well he is your husband and I thought you said he had sex with you last night. Doesn't it mean you've settled?"
She frowned. "We've far from settled"
"Oh," she smirked. "So it was hate sex then"
"Call it whatever you want, I'm not discussing my sex life with you"
Becky chuckled. "What do you think about this one?"
From where Dawn sat, she looked up at the sad excuse for a dress Becky held up.
"Are you going to a school reunion or strip club?" She asked incredulously with an eyebrow raised.
Becky laughed.
"What? this is honestly the longest I've gone," she turned around to the full-length mirror and held up the dress in front of her body. "See. It looks good"
"Why do I even bother with you" Dawn narrowed her eyes and plugged her face with more chips.
"Why don't you try it?" Becky smirked, yanking the dress off its hanger and tossing it at her. "You still haven't figured what to wear to the party right?"
"There's no way I'm going out in public wearing that thing with people looking at me" she grimaced, tossing it back almost immediately.
"It's a party, you don't expect to walk in dressed as mother Theresa, do you?" she chuckled, obviously finding her distaste laughable.
Dawn rolled her eyes backward "if it means I don't have to wear it then I don't mind"
"Come on, don't be such a party pooper"
"I'm a married woman, it's bad enough that I agreed to this thing. I don't want people thinking I'm desperate or something"
"I'm pretty much sure that huge diamond on your finger will tell him otherwise" she teased and Dawn thinned her lips in a clear show of annoyance.
"Okay whatever but It doesn't matter If you don't want to wear It but you're gonna want to look sexy because I heard Jacob is coming"
She shrugged and sipped from her drink. "So?"
"So... Don't you want to look pretty for your high school crush? I hear he's a model for Calvin Klein now, he must be hotter than the last time we saw him"
"I don't get why you're telling me all this"
"Come on! The Dawn in high school would literally melt whenever Jacobs name was mentioned"
She sunk into her chair and shrugged. "That's not how I remember it"
"Well, that's how it happened. Remember 12th grade at Donald's party, you literally drank five bottles of beer so Jacob would dance with you"
Dawn parted her lips, about to defend herself but nothing seemed to come out except a light gust of air.
"I'm right, aren't I?" Becky grinned triumphantly.
Dawn shrugged and slouched even further on the sofa. "Well, whatever. It doesn't matter because I'm married now and I no longer have a crush on him"
"Good cus I plan on taking him home with me tonight" she smirked and Dawn slapped her hand over her forehead.
"I really feel sorry for your daughter"
Becky laughed. "Speaking of daughters. I need to drop Gigi off with her father"
"Nathan?"
She sighed softly "Yes Nathan"
"But I thought you two were done for good"
"We are, trust me" she sighed exasperatedly. "I got a letter from the court granting him permission to co-parent so I have to put up with his shit while looking out for my daughter"
"That's just, Woah"
"It's fine. She needs her father anyway"
"I'm sorry Becky, I know how much he hurt you"
Becky chuckled softly. "Stop it okay, you're gonna make me emotional and that's the last thing I want"
Dawn smiled sadly. "You know what, fuck men. Let's have fun tonight and forget we need them"
Becky laughed. "Never thought I'd hear you say such a thing"
She got up and snatched the dress from her hand. "I can be bad too, you know"
Becky stole it back. "I think we should leave the whoring to me"
