Chapter 8
It had been a few days since Vincent and I shared a kiss, and he had been avoiding the topic ever since. But I couldn't let it go. I knew there was something more to it than just drunkenness, and I was determined to find out.
After dropping off Rose at school, I made my way up to Vincent's room. He answered the door and I walked in.
"I need to talk to you about the other night." I said.
"Sure, what's on your mind?" He replied.
"You can't just kiss me and then act like it never happened," I said, getting straight to the point.
"I know, and i'm sorry. It was unprofessional and I shouldn't have done it. I'm embarrassed and I don't want to give off the wrong impression." He sighed. "Look, let's just forget about the kiss." He said, his voice strained. "You're an amazing friend, and I don't want to ruin that."
I nodded, trying to hide the disappointment in my face. "Yeah, okay. I understand."
He smiled, holding out his arms. "Come here, let's hug it out."
I hesitated for a moment before giving in, wrapping my arms around him tightly. As we pulled away, I couldn't shake the feeling that things had changed between us. But I didn't wanna push it, so I forced a smile and let it go.
Or at least, I tried to. Deep down, I knew that I couldn't ignore what had happened. The kiss was still lingering in the back of my mind, I couldn't let it go, and I wouldn't.
********************************
A couple of hours had passed, I found myself in the kitchen whipping up something to eat. Suddenly, Someone had knocked on the front door. I walked to the door and opened it, only to find Sabrina on the other side.
My heart sunk. Sabrina was the last person I wanted to see right now."
"Excuse me, where is my man at?" She demanded, barging past me.
"First of all, a simple 'thank you' would have been nice." I retorted. "And secondly, he's upstairs. But I don't think he wants to see you."
Sabrina just laughed "Yeah, okay. Anyways," She said, storming up the stairs.
As I prepared my meal in the kitchen, my thoughts were consumed with frustration towards a certain individual. "What a bitch." I muttered to myself.
Her negative attitude is only going to cause problems for herself. Who would want to be bothered with someone like that?
After finishing my meal, I settled down in the living room to watch some TV. Soon after, Vincent made his way downstairs, Followed by Sabrina.
"Maya, we need to talk." Vincent said.
I raised an eyebrow in confusion "About what?"
"I invited Sabrina here today because I wanted you both to address the issues that you both have, It's time to talk about it and move forward."
"Um, okay." I replied.
Vincent and Sabrina took their seats, and I waited for Sabrina to speak, but she remained silent.
"Well, since she doesn't want to talk, I have no problem with her. It's just that she constantly disrespects people as if she's better than everyone else, which she's not. The first time we met, she was disrespectful to me, and I didn't do anything wrong. I could have said a lot, but I chose not to." I explained, I noticed Sabrina rolling her eyes.
"I feel like you're not genuine, so I called you out on that. I don't want someone around my man who only wants his money." Sabrina retorted, Flipping her hair.
"Bitch, you don't even like him yourself. You're only with him for his money." I snapped back.
"No, I'm not. You don't even know me."
"Enough, both of you!" Vincent intervened, "I didn't bring you both together to argue, so let's stop."
"Well, Vincent, I Can't sit here and speak with her. You're going to have to make a choice, either it's me or her." Sabrina said, she stood and was ready to storm off.
Vincent quickly grabbed her arm and pulled her back. "Please, baby."
"No, Vincent, it's either your girlfriend or her, a nobody."
"Sabrina, don't talk about her like that."
"Fine, you choose her then. Let go of me!" Sabrina dramatically pulled away and stormed off.
Vincent stood up and followed her, leaving me alone to hope that he would break up with her and choose me instead.
They returned a few minutes later, and Sabrina was still by his side.
"Listen Maya, you're a good friend and an amazing nanny for Rose, but I have to take Sabrina's side. She's my girlfriend." Vincent said, disappointing me.
"What? You're taking her side?" I was heated.
"Yes, he is. Now, go pack up your things and get out." Sabrina said with a devilish smirk.
"Sabrina, I don't need your input. I can handle this." He said.
"Sorry baby."
"Maya, I choose my relationship, so you're going to have to leave. I'm sorry," Vincent said, and those words stung.
I couldn't believe it. Just moments ago, Vincent was telling me how much he appreciated me, and now he was kicking me out. Tears streamed down my face as I ran to my room to pack my things.
Vincent was a completely different person when he was with Sabrina, and it Infuriated me. It was unbelievable that I had developed feelings for someone like him. Even with him kicking me out of his house, I couldn't shake off these emotions.
As I packed my things, Vincent stood in the doorway and watched me.
"I'm sorry Maya, you have to understand where i'm coming from" He said.
"I don't want to hear it, Vincent. Please leave me alone." I replied, trying my best to hold back any more tears.
"Maya, please ta-" he started to say, but I cut him off.
"I said leave me the hell alone!" I shouted at him.
He sadly turned around and walked away, leaving me alone to finish packing. Once I was done, I grabbed my belongings and headed towards the door.
"Listen, Maya. I can let you stay in one of my condos until you're able to find your own place. Would you like that?" Vincent asked, trying to make amends.
I was still angry with him, but I had nowhere else to go. So, I agreed to his offer.
"I'll text you the address of my property, and here are the keys." He handed them to me. "Do you need any assistance with your bags?" He offered.
"No." I grabbed my luggage and made my way out of the house. I got into my car and drove off.
My mind was a jumbled mess of thoughts and emotions. The idea of no longer babysitting for Rose was heartbreaking, especially since I never got the chance to say goodbye before Vincent kicked me out. Despite the situation, I couldn't bring myself to hate Vincent. It wasn't his fault that Sabrina had caused all this chaos.
However, it still stung me that he didn't choose me over her.
As I wiped away my tears, my phone buzzed with a message from Vincent. He apologized once again and sent me the location to his condo. I didn't respond.
*********************************
As I entered Vincent's condo, I dragged my bags inside and left them near the door. The place was breathtakingly beautiful, and I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe as I settled down on the couch and dialed my best friend Sam on Facetime. She picked up after a few rings.
"Hey." I said, a hint of sadness in my voice.
"It's been a while since we last talked." Sam replied. "How have you been?"
"I've been going through a lot." I said. "Vincent kicked me out of his house."
"What? Why?" Sam asked, her eyes widening.
"Because of Sabrina. She gave him an ultimatum, and he chose her over me," I explained, my voice trembling with emotion. "He gave me the keys to one of his condos, so i'm staying here until I can find my own place."
"That's messed up," Sam said, shaking her head in disbelief.
"I know, right?" I replied. "He wants to call me his friend, but then he kicks me out. It hurts because I thought we had something, you know? He kissed me, and now-"
"He kissed you?" Sam interrupted, surprised.
"Yeah." I confirmed. "He apologized afterward, saying he was drunk, but I can't help feeling like he has feelings for me. Maybe I'm delusional, but I can see it in the way he looks at me, the way he talks to me, and the way he touches me. He even bought me an expensive necklace that had to cost more than $1000."
"Maybe he does like you, but he's either too scared to admit it because he has a girlfriend, or he doesn't want to ruin your friendship and work relationship." Sam suggested.
"Probably." I said, feeling a sense of disappointment wash over me. "But I'm still hurt."
"Do you love him?" Sam asked, her voice gentle.
"What? No," I replied, shaking my head. "I just thought we had something special.
"I'm sorry that he kicked you out. That was a dick move," Sam said sympathetically.
"Thanks, but I'm even more upset because Rose was like a daughter to me. I've only known her for a short time, but we had a special bond." I said, my voice cracking a little bit.
"I'm sorry, Maya. Do you want me to come over and spend some time with you?" Sam offered.
"If you don't mind, I really don't want to be alone right now." I admitted.
"Of course, Just text me the address, and I'll be on my way." Sam replied.
"Thanks, Sam. I really appreciate it." I said.
"Anything for you, Maya. I'll start getting dressed now." Sam said before hanging up.
I sighed and sank back into the couch, feeling grateful for Sam's friendship and support.
