Chapter 7
It's been a couple of days, I haven't really been chatting with Vincent that much. As he said, I've been focusing on my duties and making sure everything is okay with Rose.
But today is a special day, It's Rose's birthday. I've already planned everything out for her, I've invited some of her friends from school, I've ordered a cake for her, I bought balloons for her, everything to make this day special.
It was around 4:30 pm, Rose was out with Anastasia shopping for new clothes and toys; To make sure I had enough time to set up all the decorations.
It took me almost an hour to set up everything, I bought lots of decorations, games, food, drinks, cake, and some cupcakes for her.
Vincent walked into the living room just as I was finishing up on putting the streamers up.
"This place looks totally different, too much pink."
"What do you expect? It's A kid's birthday party."
"Yeah, I know. But wow, you did a good job. You didn't have to do any of this but you did, thank you."
"Of course. I even made sure everything was tangled-themed, she's literally in love with Rapunzel." I laughed.
"Yeah, it's her favorite movie." He chuckled.
"Check out her cake." I pulled it out of the fridge and opened it up.
He walked over and came behind me "Looks nice." He pressed up against me.
Was he doing this on purpose or what? He did not have to do that at all.
I moved away from him "Yeah, so I got everything done. Now you just have to call her friends parents so they can come over."
"Okay, I'll get that handled now." He smiled.
I grabbed the cake and put it back in the fridge.
He started to call all of the parents, and while he did that I went back to my room to get dressed because I was still in my sweats and a t-shirt. I slipped my dress on and put my hair in a high ponytail then walked back into the living room.
"You look nice." He scanned my body over.
"Thank you." I smiled.
"Maya, I don't know what we'd do without you. You help out a lot around this house, and I don't know how else to thank you so, I got you something." He dug into his pocket, he pulled out a rectangular box. He opened it up and inside was a beautiful ruby heart pendant with diamonds.
"Vincent, this is beautiful!" I can tell that this necklace was expensive, just from the diamonds.
"I'm glad you like it. Let me put it on you."
I turned around, he wrapped the necklace around my neck. He rested his hands on my shoulders and then ran them down my arms.
That's all he had to do and he sent chills down my spine. I turned around to face him "Thank you."
"Of course." Our faces were inches away from each other, I wanted to kiss him so bad but I didn't wanna screw anything up. I waited for him to make the first move, and yet again, he didn't.
He walked away "So, I've done my part. I've told everyone's parents, some of them accepted and some declined, so people should be showing up soon."
"Okay good. I want to make this perfect for Rose."
I made sure everything else was set up okay, and we waited for everyone else to arrive.
About 20 minutes later people started to show up with their kids, Now we just have to wait on Rose to get back. Anastasia sent me a text letting me know that Rose and her were about to pull into the driveway.
"Everyone, Rose is about to come in!" I said.
A few seconds later the door turned, Anastasia opened the door and walked in, and Rose walked in after her.
"Surprise!" Everyone yelled.
"Happy birthday Princess!" Vincent picked her up "I love you and I hope you enjoy your day."
"Thank you Daddy, I love you too!" She hugged him tightly.
"You should be thanking Maya, she did all of this by herself." He let her down.
"Thank you Maya! I love it!" She ran to me and hugged me. "You're the best nanny ever!"
"You're welcome, anything for you." I hugged her back "Now go enjoy your birthday." I smiled.
She ran to all of her friends and started talking with them.
"You did well." Anastasia said.
"Thank you."
"Well, I'm gonna go bring all of these bags upstairs." Anastasia walked off.
The next couple of hours were spent playing a couple of different games, like red light green light, tag, hide and seek, etc. Once they were done playing games I let her hit her piñata.
"Rose, it's in front of you, just swing."
She swung the first time and missed, she swung a couple more times and missed. Finally, she hit it and all the candy fell out on the floor. She took her blindfold off and jumped onto the floor with the rest of the kids, they began grabbing the candy and putting it in their pockets.
*************************************
It was now 9:00 pm, everyone has already gone home and I'd just put Rose to bed. I went back downstairs to clean up the whole mess, Vincent was in the kitchen having a drink.
"Hey, Is everything okay?" I asked.
"Not really" He finished his drink and poured another.
I walked over to him "What's wrong?"
"It's just, I thought her mother would show up for her birthday but she didn't." He sipped his drink.
I could see the sadness in his eyes, and it made me wonder if he still had feelings for his ex-wife. He talks about her a lot, I know it's because he's sad the way things ended but he talks about her nonstop.
"I don't mean to pry, but are you still in love with your ex-wife?"
"No, I'm not. I still have love for her, but I'm not in love with her."
"I'm just asking because you talk about her like you're still in love with her."
"No, It just sucks what type of person she is."
"Listen Vincent, I know you're upset about her not showing up but don't worry. Rose will be fine. All that matters is that you were there for her, and she knows that you love her." I rubbed his arm.
He looked up at me, he didn't say anything, he just stared at me. Suddenly he leaned in and kissed me.
I pulled away "Vincent, what are you doing?"
"Uh, I'm so sorry!" He took a few steps back "I don't know why I just did that!"
"It's okay, You're -"
"No, it's not okay! I shouldn't have done that. It's just I had too much to drink. I'm so sorry."
"Vincent, it's okay." I walked towards him.
"No, That was unprofessional of me. I'm just going to go to bed." He left.
Fuck.
