Chapter 1069: Dignity and Authority of the Ministry of Magic
If we really want to investigate, even Fudge has an unshirkable responsibility.
The reason why he can still be fearless is simply because he has seen through the selfishness of human nature.
Either we die together, or none of us die.
Only children can tell the difference between right and wrong, adults only see the pros and cons.
Fudge smiled very kindly and pressed Scrimgeour's shoulders. "Very good, Rufus. You have the courage to say what no one has dared to say."
His hypocritical face made Hermione feel physically uncomfortable.
She turned to look at Vincent and saw that he was adjusting his stance.
Without much eye contact, she also quietly turned on the shooting function of the magic communicator.
"I assure you, Rufus, things will change at the Ministry."
Weird!
Scrimgeour was indeed a real man, but his bravery was useless if no one responded.
Judging from the faces of those senior executives who were full of relief, perhaps only old Battie, with anger in his eyes, was sober.
But what can we do if we dare not speak out?
Scrimgeour looked stunned. "I—"
"No need to say more." Fudge smiled and shook his head. "You did the right thing, Rufus. This is a serious matter. Let's deal with Rookwood first."
Before Scrimgeour could respond, Moody forcefully inserted himself between the two of them and said, "Fudge, what do you mean by this? Do you want to keep hiding this?"
"Watch your tone!" Umbridge's recognizable shrill voice rang out.
A big pink toad suddenly jumped over, and Vincent and Hermione had to continue adjusting the angle.
"Alastor Moody, you have retired! You have no right to make decisions at the Ministry of Magic!"
Moody laughed out of anger, his eyes rarely revealed murderous intent, "Fudge, can you represent the Ministry of Magic?"
Fudge smiled without saying anything, allowing Umbridge to attack with all her might.
"Minister Fudge is the Minister of Magic. Do you think he can represent the Ministry of Magic?"
She raised her chin high. "Moody, if you want to go crazy, you should know the situation! If you don't step down, we will take you away for obstruction of public service!"
Moody snorted coldly, raised his cane and slammed it heavily on the ground, "Come on, let's see who has the ability to take me away!"
It is an extremely sad thing that the legendary Auror who once served the Ministry of Magic diligently is threatened by a pink toad who only knows how to flatter.
"Rufus, what are you still standing there for?"
Scrimgeour felt a chill run down his spine.
Half of the prisoners in Azkaban were captured by Moody, for which he paid the price with an eye, a leg, and countless scars on his body.
If prisons cannot hold criminals and allow them to come and go freely, what is the point of law enforcement officers desperately trying to catch criminals?
"SHUT UP!" Scrimgeour roared in a loud, high voice.
He ripped off the Ministry of Magic badge pinned on his chest and threw it to the ground, "I resign! You disgusting pink toad, don't even think about ordering me around!"
Umbridge's face turned green with fear at his actions.
If he resigns now, it will be her turn to take the blame.
"Rufus! Do you think we won't hold you accountable for your mistakes if you resign?"
Scrimgeour said with disdain, "You think you can run?"
He looked at the senior executives with a sharp gaze, "Today I became a scapegoat, what about next time? What about the next time? One day you will -"
"That's enough!" Fudge instantly regained his smile. "This is the staff dormitory. If you have anything to say, we can talk about it when we get back to the ministry."
He bent down and picked up the badge that Scrimgeour had thrown to the ground. "Rufus, we are short of manpower right now. Why would we use you as a scapegoat?"
He gently dusted off the badge and pinned it back on Scrimgeour's chest. "Everyone knows that the Auror Office is the busiest and most dangerous department in the Ministry. I will also make sure to put Azkaban in good order."
"Mr. Minister, I have decided to resign."
Fudge sighed and said, "Rufus, I hope you can seriously consider this."
He looked at Rookwood, who was dying on the ground. "The situation is serious now. You don't want those remaining Death Eaters to remain at large, do you?"
Scrimgeour wavered. "I know my decision may seem like a cop-out, but I don't want the Ministry to continue in the same old way."
Unlike politicians who are good at talking, he is a man of firm action. Although he will compromise, this time the matter involves a matter of principle.
Is it really necessary to sacrifice the safety of the people in order to maintain the dignity and authority of the Ministry of Magic?
"Okay." Fudge stopped trying to persuade him and turned his attention back to Rookwood. "Take the people back first. We can't let him die like this."
Using Rookwood as a breakthrough point may not necessarily lead to finding clues about Voldemort, but a lot of information can be obtained.
Vincent and Hermione, who had seemed invisible before, walked out of the corner on their own initiative.
It’s a pity that the most corrupt and darkest scene of the Ministry of Magic was not captured, but Umbridge’s remarks were explosive enough, and there will definitely be a good “response” once they are released.
Rookwood was handcuffed with a Locking Charm, which prevented him from performing wandless spells even if he knew how.
As for Bagman, he was carried away on a stretcher. His injuries could not be cured by simple treatment.
Fudge then came up to Vincent and Hermione.
His eyes were extremely sincere, but instead of feeling warmth and peace of mind, the two of them felt a bone-chilling chill.
"Mr. Wayne, Miss Granger, thank you very much for helping us capture Rookwood tonight."
Moody in the distance seemed to want to come over angrily, but Dumbledore shook his head to stop him.
Vincent and Hermione were not children anymore and knew how to deal with Fudge, the old fox.
"You're welcome, Mr. Fudge. Protecting the wizarding world is everyone's responsibility. I just did what I should do."
Seeing that the two were so tactful, Fudge would naturally express his appreciation.
"It's getting late now, and we still need to trouble you two to explain what happened. Is that ok?"
"No problem at all."
Fudge then met Moody's dissatisfied look and found Dumbledore who was watching the whole show.
He smiled at Vincent and Hermione, "Albus, when does your Order of the Phoenix start recruiting students?"
Dumbledore's eyes widened, as if to express fear. "I dare not let these two children join. They just deduced that Ludo was replaced by a Death Eater through some very insignificant things that were ignored by everyone."
"Oh?" Fudge's eyes flashed with cunning, "It turns out they are great heroes!"
There was a hint of relief in his smile. "It would be great if our department could have talents like Mr. Wayne and Miss Granger. What do you think, Albus?"
"That would be great." Dumbledore seemed to sympathize with Fudge.
He actually dared to set his sights on Vincent. The Minister of Magic is probably in big trouble.
