Chapter 1070: A Person Blinded by Desire for Power
Rookwood was taken back to the Ministry of Magic and received little treatment, and his interrogation soon began.
Separated by a glass wall, Dumbledore and Moody knew that it would be difficult to pry his mouth open.
The person in charge of the interrogation was Kingsley, who started with a standard set of intimidation and inducement.
"Look at the injuries on your body. You don't want to die here, do you?"
Rookwood finally responded, and he spat at Kingsley with all his strength.
Although he missed, his good days were over.
Now that he's in the Ministry of Magic, there are plenty of ways to pry open his mouth.
You have to be ruthless when dealing with Death Eaters. After drinking a large bottle of Veritaserum, Rookwood became completely dazed.
His willpower was strong, but it was only a way to buy time.
the other side,
Vincent and Hermione were sitting in the Minister's office explaining the whole story.
Fudge was quite happy about the destruction of the Fairy Guild. He tried hard to suppress his smile and put on a heartbroken face.
"The dead are gone, we will properly handle the affairs of the fairies."
It is to properly deal with the legacy they left behind.
The Goblin Brotherhood didn't even have time to cut off such a shady underground organization, so how could they think about inheriting the estate? Having it confiscated by the Ministry of Magic was basically the same as putting it into Fudge's pocket.
Vincent rolled his eyes inwardly, "Mr. Fudge, after that we returned to school. We were hungry in the early hours of the morning, so we asked a few classmates to go to the kitchen together."
Fudge smiled and waved his hand, "Is that so? Don't worry, Albus and I won't pursue any violation of school rules."
Next up was Fred and George betting with Bagman last summer, with Fudge also laughing and joking, his mind clearly focused on the goblins' inheritance.
Vincent gave a rough outline of what had happened, and Hermione added some small details.
"Okay, I understand everything." Fudge suddenly changed his expression, "Mr. Wayne, Miss Granger, have you thought about your job after graduation?"
Vincent immediately became alert, "I should continue to run Wayne Enterprises."
Hermione seemed to have noticed something, "Mr. Fudge, work is still too far away for me. I think I need to think about it seriously."
Fudge nodded, "Yes, it does require serious consideration."
He looked into Vincent's calm eyes and said, "Mr. Wayne, I have watched you grow up. If Lord Flamel knew your achievements today, he would definitely feel very gratified."
Playing the emotional card doesn't seem to be as simple as trying to shut them up.
Fudge paused and let out a long sigh, "Ah - if only all the young people in the Ministry were like you."
Vincent didn't respond and took a sip of his tea with a bit of embarrassment.
Hermione followed suit and the atmosphere suddenly became weird.
Fudge also took a sip of tea. "Have you ever considered working in the Ministry of Magic?"
Vincent frowned slightly. "I am a lazy person. I don't have any big ambitions in life, and I don't want to be bound by rules and regulations."
Fudge said with some regret, "Is that so? Where's Miss Granger?"
Hermione clenched her fists nervously.
Of course she wanted to work in the Ministry of Magic, but the reason she wanted to do that was because the current Ministry of Magic was rotten to the core, and she wanted to change everything from within.
"Mr. Fudge, I am well aware of my shortcomings. I am afraid that entering the Ministry of Magic will mess up a lot of things."
She declined politely.
Fudge was not annoyed. "Let's not talk about this anymore. You two should both understand how serious what happened tonight is. For the sake of the stability and unity of the wizarding world, I hope you two will not disclose any information to the outside world."
Let's test it first and then get down to business. It seems that he has really set his sights on them.
Vincent and Hermione agreed solemnly.
Since Fudge was determined to cover up the whole thing, not even Dumbledore could stop him.
People who are blinded by the desire for power will do everything they can to hold on to everything they have. It is obviously irrational to go against such people.
But this does not mean compromise, it just means that now is not the time to turn against each other.
Fudge was a very good person, even though Vincent and Hermione did not accept the olive branch he personally extended.
"Mr. Wayne, Miss Granger, in recognition of your outstanding contributions in the fight against the Death Eaters, you will both receive the Anti-Dark Arts Vanguard Medal issued by the Ministry of Magic."
Internal award means it will not be released to the public, but this amount of hush money is a bit too stingy.
Vincent and Hermione agreed with a smile, and Fudge keenly detected the dissatisfaction that the two could hardly hide.
His expression changed again, becoming extremely serious. "The Ministry will never mistreat any wizard who has made contributions to the wizarding world. Mr. Wayne, I heard that you recently developed flying boots that are more convenient to carry than broomsticks and have better performance?"
I haven't even received the inheritance from the Fairy Hall yet, and now I'm starting to think about how to spend it?
If I had known earlier, I would have taken everything I could take with me when I left. It’s really depressing to think that the Ministry of Magic has benefited from it for no reason.
Vincent generously admitted and introduced the many advantages of the Flying Boots.
"Mr. Wayne, the department is going to replace a batch of brooms recently. Since your flying boots are so excellent, I will order a batch of special custom-made ones from you."
"Well..." Vincent pretended to be embarrassed, "In fact, the cost of boots has not been reduced, and it will take a long time before mass production."
Fudge waved his hand. "That's not a problem. As long as the boots are as good as you say, the price can be higher."
He spent his windfall generously, and Vincent and Hermione were intimidated by his arrogance.
If I don't give them a good beating, it would be unfair to them for their hard work tonight.
Now that I have received the hush money, it’s time to go back to school.
Fudge walked the two men to the entrance hall, where he happened to meet Dumbledore and Moody coming up from the second underground floor by elevator.
"Albus, Alastor, you guys are going back?"
Moody did not hide the disdain on his face, while Dumbledore glanced at Vincent and Hermione with a smile, "I am old, and I can't stay up late like the young people nowadays."
Fudge pretended not to see Moody's look, "Albus, you are kidding again."
Ordinary wizards can easily live to over 150 years old if they are healthy and free from disasters. Wizards with great magical powers like Dumbledore can live even longer.
"Cornelly, I'm not kidding." Dumbledore looked at Vincent and Hermione meaningfully, "The future belongs to the young, and we old people will have to leave sooner or later."
Fudge heard the hint in his words.
But he is less than 60 years old this year and is in his prime.
After exchanging a few polite words, Fudge watched the four people leave the Ministry of Magic.
He turned and walked towards the elevator, his expression gradually becoming gloomy.
The matter had been largely settled, and only Rookwood's interrogation remained.
