Thirty-eight - A jealous Chloe
"What are you doing here?" came Nathaniel's voice as he had her dissolve the hug.
"I am here to see my favourites boys. Well, my favourite boy..." Her thick brows danced suggestively as she made to hug him again.
He stopped her. "You should have called."
"That was my point," Gabriel murmured as he found his stance beside Chloe who was still watching the whole scene in front of her play out.
"Don't be this way Nate. It has been a while since I saw you," the woman called Kate whined. "Besides, even if I call, you never pick up. Don't be hard on me." She took a step closer. "Please..." the tone of her voice changed.
Nathaniel sighed. "Let's-"
"Who is she?" Chloe finally became visible and her sight caused a little frown on the woman's face.
"She is Chloe," came Nathaniel's response as his eyes met Chloe's.
"What is she doing here?"
"I believe that is none of your business Kate. Now let's-"
"I really want to know who she is."
"She is our friend, okay?" Gabriel said, obviously annoyed.
Kate moved closer and scrutinized Chloe, not sparing any part of her body. "Your friend you say. I-"
Nathaniel pulled her arm and dragged her back saying, "Let's go. We need to talk."
"Hmm." Kate's attention was fully back on Nathaniel who she looked at like he was a snack. "I love talking with you."
"Unbelievable."
"I am right? That's why you love me." Nathaniel gave a playful scoff with his smile trying to hide before he dragged her out of the library.
"Talk about bad timings," Gabriel said, getting a slight glare from Chloe.
"Ahh!" she whined. "This is why I didn't want to say anything. Now that gorgeous woman is here and I don't have any chance with him."
"Oh come on. Nathaniel and Kate never had a history."
"How do you know for sure?" She finally looked his way.
"Kate is my sister."
"Uh?"
He smiled. "And I am very sure it is you Nathaniel likes. My jumpy sister won't change that."
Chloe looked away, her face made into a frown. As her mind went to their position before the barge in and then to her confession of being a virgin, she lost it. "I knew I shouldn't have said anything."
"How was it going though? The air seemed pretty intense," Gabriel asked with delight in his voice. It still beat Chloe though, how he was so excited about the whole thing.
"It wasn't that bad actually," she smiled as she recalled how good his touch made her feel. "I finally got a feel of physical intimacy. Well, kind of."
"You know, I still find it hard to believe you haven't been with anyone."
A bit shy already, she said, "A kiss with a boy from my street when I was a teen is the closest I have gotten to having physical intimacy."
"Are you being serious now?" She shrugged and smiled. "You are a very pretty woman, just your look is enough to make a man loose himself."
"Well, I never had time to see if I had advances. I was busy making a life for myself and my-" She stopped herself before she could drive herself from amusement to sadness. "I just never had the time."
"We never do." Gabriel walked to a nearby shelf and pulled out a book. As he examined the hard cover, he said, "The best we can do for ourselves as humans is to create time for the things we want to do. If we don't, it won't ever happen. So," he looked her way. ",it is a good thing you let Nathaniel know how you feel."
"I guess."
"But!" He startled Chloe who was thinking about Nathaniel's smile. Standing straighter, he moved closer to her and she took a step back. "If he doesn't do the needful..."
His eyes had turn sensual, his moves didn't stop nor did Chloe's. "I am going to make sure you are mine at the end of the day."
"What?" She chuckled then her back hit the wall. To have her cornered, both his hands found support against the wall just by the side of her head.
"You heard me Chloe." His voice was so... intense. "You had better keep that in mind."
"Uh... okay?" Her hand swept through her hair nervously.
"Damn it!" He startled her again. "Why do you look so pretty? Gosh, you are even making my heart flutter."
"I-"
Shaking his head with a comical look on his face, he took a step back and said, "I am out of here. The sweetness in here is too much."
Chloe had no idea what was happening. Was he been cheesy? Or serious? Or playful?
"Gabriel?" she called.
"Bye," he said not looking back as he walked out of the library.
Moments later, Chloe did too. The day had been dramatic enough and a good sleep would work its magic.
~
It was the next day already and Nathaniel and Kate were yet to leave each other's company.
That angered Chloe a bit. She wasn't even getting a chance to say hi to him or continue the talk from the previous day before she would begin to feel like a fool.
Stealing glances at the duo who were chatting and laughing recklessly in the dining room, Chloe wondered if something happened between them the previous night.
Nathaniel was not that friendly when he first saw Kate.
The thought roused even more anger within her.
"Are you cleaning the air?" Amir's voice asked bringing her back to the chore she was doing. Or rather, pretending to do.
"Uh..." Amir craned his neck to see what she was looking at.
"Oh, Kate's really around. Man, I don't like her."
"She is hot though," Lucille's voice added.
Chloe had no idea where it came from, but excitement befell her and she hugged the woman who had just arrived, a luggage beside her.
"Hey you," Lucille said warmly.
"I am so glad you are finally okay." As Chloe dissolved the hug to take a look at Lucille, she noticed she was looking more like herself.
"What can I say? This is the new me." Chloe smiled. "So, who is the woman?"
"Gabriel's sister. And she has been stuck to Nathaniel since she came."
"Someone sounds jealous," Lucille cooed as her arm slung over Chloe's shoulders.
"I am not."
"She is hot though. She makes me question my sexuality." Lucille couldn't tear her gaze off the chatting duo.
"Are you trying to worsen the situation?" Chloe asked dramatically.
"Chloe," Amir interrupted Lucille's reply. "I just got a call from Sebastian."
"Yeah?" Chloe had actually forgotten about their little, fun interrogation for a moment.
"He knows who Tate is working for."
