Fifty-Eight - A pressing date issue
“Chloe…” She jumped slightly at the mention of her name. She had been so deep in thought. “What are you doing?” Amir questioned her, a little frown of concern on his face.
“Uh…” Her eyes swiftly darted between the man and the duster in her hand. “My job?”
“This entire house has been cleaned already. Have you forgotten, housekeeping came today.”
“Did they?” Chloe took a quick trip down memory lane and she realized he was right. Had she not been so occupied with what to wear and what to expect on her coming date, she would have withdrawn herself from picking up the duster.
Leaving the last step to stand on level ground with her, Amir pocketed his hands into the pockets of his shorts and asked, “Are you worried about something?”
She unwantedly became flustered. “No I… I was just willing to work that’s all.”
His eyes scanned her uniform. His mouth made a clicking sound. “I guess you were. We should do something about that though.”
“Uh?”
“You need to stop working.”
“But-”
It was obvious he wouldn’t listen to her. “I should speak to others about this. I am sure they’d agree.” After nodding to himself severally as if to say he was very pleased with the idea, he locked eyes with her again. “Don’t worry, we will get a better job. Maybe you’ll get to work with us in our main office.”
Chloe who had date issues pressing her mind more, argued no more and just let out a small smile. “That sounds okay.”
She was still going to disagree anyway. But that would be later on when she’s scaled through the date thing.
“So-”
“Where is Sebastian?” The way her body froze on hearing his very deep voice made her conclude she had issues. And she didn’t want the man who just entered with a file in his hands to see how much he affected her. So, she looked to the ground, scheming a way to escape.
“Check his van outside. What do you have there?”
“Macknicoff’s file,” said his voice quite heavily.
“I take it you’ve transferred the deal to him.” She had not noticed it the previous day but Amir didn’t sound too pleased at Nathaniel’s method. But he also looked like he didn’t want to complain.
“Yes. Give this to him. Chloe?” She drew her breath as even the way he called her made her shake a bit all over. “Shouldn’t you be dressed? Or getting dressed?”
“Why?” Amir interrupted before she could almost inaudibly give a response. “Are you guys going out? Is it a date?”
“What if it is?” Nathaniel sternly asked.
“Nothing.” Amir shrugged. “I guess it’s nice you are finally having one since I ruined your last one. Well…” Hands on his waist, he squinted his eyes dramatically. “I wouldn’t say I ruined it. But you remember how-”
“Chloe, go get ready.” There seemed to be mischief in her man’s voice and maybe excitement too. It made her head run like crazy. What would happen during the date? Will she finally be with a man? Will he handle her in a way that guarantees explosions?
All those questions worsened her situation as she felt a yearning within her. It immediately made her want to drag the nice smelling man with her to her bed with their date forgotten along the line.
Shaking her head to shoo off the naughty thoughts, Chloe soon made for her room, already debating which of the clothes she had earlier selected would be the sexy one for her date.
After a seemingly unending shower and lots of pacing with a towel around her wet body, she finally settled on an outfit. It wasn’t sexy, it was cute. And the short flared mauve gown which had a huge looseable bow on its chest area went well with only hat she had.
So, after few more minutes of making her face look presentable, the whole outfit was completed with her slip on which she felt would be easier to take off.
'So, will your gown.' A voice within teased her.
“Shut up.” But she still saw Nathaniel hovering over her, his eyes intent on hers while his huge hand caresses her and pulls off the bow at the same time. “Oh God, what’s wrong with me?”
After fanning herself hard, she gathered the numerous clothes she had sprawled all over her bed and she put them in a side. That was when her eyes caught a glimpse of the Agency’s communication devices.
Immediately, she took them and had them tucked in a corner in the wardrobe. She wasn’t going to let them ruin a good time even if it would all come to an end someday.
Adjusting the hat on her head once more, she soon walked out of her room, some kind of giddiness within her as she realized it was drawing closer.
At the end of the stairs, she decided to wait for Nathaniel. But it was Sebastian who showed up.
“Nathaniel asked me to drive you there,” he replied the question on her face. “You look good,” he commented and she gave him a smile. A quiet and short ride soon brought Chloe to her destination and she realized how crazily nervous she was. “Have fun.”
Fun.
As it was approaching evening already, the sun was already was already a shade that made the entire environment more beautiful. And the air… She inhaled some of its freshness. The air was making her feel relaxed, with the way it blew through her hair and caressed her skin.
Incidentally, her eyes fell on the huge shed ahead and she recalled how she could have had Nathaniel arrested. Thank goodness she didn’t do that. She liked to think they got even closer after that incident.
Her eyes traveling back to the spot Nathaniel had said he would be standing, she felt her heart dance. There he was, in a cool looking long jacket and his back view couldn’t have been more sexier to her.
Slowly, she started walking towards him, hoping to startle him with a hug from behind but it was almost as though he sensed her. Nathaniel turned at that minute and her body felt weak.
How could a man be so good looking? It was as if he was wearing a new look. And his hair was not a strand different. Nothing was different about him.
Chloe realized she could stand there all day wondering how he made the grasses behind him look even better.
“Chloe!” His strong voice rang through the space, snapping her out of her trance. “Come!” A hand reached out and waited for her to grab on. Like a heroine who has finally realized who she was in love with in a movie, Chloe raced towards him, ignored his hand and hugged him.
Her heart was beating so fast.
Was it really Nathaniel that made her feel that way? She wondered.
But as his hands went around her after a low chuckle, she didn’t mind if he made her heart feel like it could fly. After all, she had promised herself to make most of the situation even if it was selfish of her.
“Are you ready?”
“Uh?” She looked up at him, eyes blinking almost blankly. But within her, she wondered if he was asking about the steamy part already.
“Did you just have a naughty thought again?” She looked to the side. Nathaniel raised a hand and ran two fingers across a strand of her hair. “Don’t worry…” his voice was so husky, she could not ignore. “We’ll get there soon. But for now… let’s eat.”
“Uh?”
He laughed again and twirled her so she was now facing a neat arrangement of dishes and she knew without doubt it was food. Or better put, a very good distraction.
And hurriedly, she rushed to the huge mat on which the dishes were laid and started to make use of the distraction.
Anything to ensure she doesn’t imagine him naked for a while.
