63. Banished from the pack.

It took me a great deal of time to calm down Diego who was crying so much that he had even begun to run a temperature. He had seen his sister fall down the stairs so hard and he had been so devastated ever since. When I finally succeeded in getting him to fall asleep, I pulled the covers over him and then I went downstairs.

“I did not do it intentionally, alpha, please. She fell off the stairs all by herself because she slipped, I had absolutely nothing to do with it.” I heard Sofia’s voice coming from the alpha’s study whose door was slightly opened.

Camila stood a few feet away from the kitchen and I walked over to her. Luca was at the lounge listening to it all too while Mrs. Cali and some other maids were next to her. Everybody looked gloomy and sad, the whole atmosphere in the house was just very depressing too.

“I think Sofia did not mean to harm Mia, she can be cold but harming Mia does not seem like anything she would do at all, she has been so caring to the kids since I got here so it is definitely an accident.” I said to Camila who instantly looked my way with a glare.

“Oh please! Are you talking about someone else or the same Sofia that I know? Sofia and caring for the kids do not belong in the same sentence, there are only two people that that lady cares about, and that is herself and the alpha. Nobody else, unless it is time for her to use people, other than that, she cares about absolutely nobody except those two, do not let her facade fool you.” Camila said to me.

“Are you trying to say that she pushed Mia intentionally then? Why would she ever do that to the daughter of someone she cares about, knowing fully that it could affect how that person sees her? I still stand on my ground that it was so not intentional, slapping her was so out of it, I agree about that, but pushing her off the stairs? That is just so extreme and seem like something only a psychopath would do.” I responded and Camila rolled her eyes.

“Ugh! You need to work on this ‘seeing the good in everyone’ attitude of yours, Elena. I agree that she might not have intentionally pushed her off the stairs but I still believe that her presence around the kids is bad, if I were the alpha, I will use this opportunity to send her away,is it not high time?”

I was about to reply Camilla but the screaming matches that was going on shut me up, “you still don’t see my problem with you, do you? Sofia, whether or not you did push her off the stairs is not my point, of course, I know that you could not have done that. But this is the second time you would dare to use your hands on my daughter, not even I nor their late mother have ever done that to her-” I heard Mr. Deangelo’s stern and scary voice say before he was interrupted by Sofia.

“She called me a whore, a hoe and a slut, Deangelo. You know how slicing, rude and edgy her words can get, she made me loose it and I could not control myself, I could just not watch her be so-”

“You are not making any sense right now, Sofia. You have no right whatsoever to use those hands of yours on my children and the fact that you still do not think that you did anything wrong is even more annoying and dreadful! Do you not remember that I warned you the last time that you dared to do that, did I not tell you that you would not like what I would do to you the next time to exhibit such behaviour? You are the adult here, Sofia, not Mia, you know how she has been dealing with a lot of things these days and all you needed to be was be patient for her, you are literally like their aunt and even their tutor. And if you had not slapped her, then she would never have tried to fight you much more resulting to her falling off the stairs!” Mr. Deangelo shouted and it gave me goosebumps, I could not imagine how Sofia had not literally turned into a poodle right now.

“I am so sorry, alpha. Can you at least forgive me? You know how much I mean well for these kids and you know that i would never intentionally hurt them for any reason at all, please, Deangelo, if not for anything for the fact that I put my life on hold to honor my best friend”s dying wish not to ever forsake you and her kids. For the sake of your late wife who is like my own sister, can you forgive me, Alpha? Please?” Sofia started to plead as tears even streamed down her cheeks, it was as if she had just realized the gravity of what had happened.

“Sofia, my daughter is literally unconscious right now! Because of your carelessness and immaturity and you think I am supposed to just overlook that because you are like a sister to Jules? Hell no! Not this time, and I am so not sorry, I will not leave any threat at all around my kids no matter the relationship we have, not for any flimsy excuse at that, not even for Jules dying wish! You are to leave this house and not just that, Sofia, you are also hereby banished form this pack henceforth. Under no circumstance should you ever step a foot into this premises or even be 3 feet close to my children anywhere!” The alpha said and it held so much authority.

A lot of us gasped at the punishment that had been announced while Camila looked very satisfied and elated even, “finally, good for her! The earlier she is taken out, the better.” She said and I looked at her in disbelief.

“No amount of hate you have for her should make you happy about this, Camila. She literally just lost her job and will be separated from the pack she sees as her family. That is torture!” I scolded her but she merely scoffed, looking unfazed, “A torture that she deserves.” Camila retorted.

Madam Beatrice who had joined us in listening to this exchange between the alpha and Sofia suddenly walked past us and into the alpha’s study, “Deangelo, I think that this punishment is very extreme for Sofia, if there is anyone asides you that cares so much about the kids, you know that it is definitely her, she has been with us for so long and she does not deserve to be banished all because of some misunderstanding, the kids are rascals that deserve to be spanked once in a while to instill some discipline with them, pampering them for so long is the reason they act this way in the first place, she-”

“I will not entertain anything from you, Beatrice, if you think I am being so harsh, then simply pack your bags and leave with her, while having it in mind never to step foot in here again too. Since you are such a loyalist to her, just form that solidarity with her and get it over with, if that s all, I want you both out of my office this instant.” Mr. Deangelo interrupted madam Beatrice sternly and that immediately shut her her insensitive ass up.

Sofia remained on the floor pleading while crying profusely hut it seemed like the alpha have had enough of her whining because the next thing we heard was a voice that seemed to thunder, “GET OUT! NOW!”

Even before Luca got to the study, obviously to get the people put of his alpha’s office like he wanted, madam Beatrice was already out followed by Sofia herself. Without saying a thing, Sofia walked into her room and in the next minutes, she was back outside with her packed bag. Her face was downcast and her eyes were rimmed so red, it would be very obvious for anyone to tell that she had been crying.

I walked over to her to offer some sympathy because I still believed that she did not deserve this at all, some punishment, yes, but not this extreme, “Sofia, I am so sorry about all of this,” I started to say to her as I put my hand on her shoulder, then I continued, “If it makes you feel better, I actually believe that Mia falling down that stairs was just an accident and not your doing at all, I am so-”

I was unable to complete my statement because the scornful look that I saw in Sofia’s eyes scared the hell out of me, “Oh shut up already about your fake concerns, you pretentious bitch. It is not over between us, the relationship between Deangelo and I will never be ruined by some petty drama like this, never. I will definitely return and I can not wait to see you grovel at my feet after all of my visions come to pass.” She said and I just stared at her, confused. The whole thing that she said was just way too dramatic and unnecessary, I have never even seen her as an enemy or something.

I was too tired to argue or reply her so I just walked away instead.

The whole household and pack kept a vigil over Mia but sleep of course claimed even the most watchful. I had fallen asleep on the couch in Mia’s room and when I woke up, I realized that I was not alone in the room. Besides Mia sleeping on the bed, there was a form beside her, holding her lifeless hand, crying. At first, I thought that it was just Diego who woke up before dawn but when I got up properly from the couch, I saw that the form was way too big to be the little boy.

I realized after a while that Alpha was actually the one crying so sadly as silently as he could. It was dark, so I could not see his face properly but I could hear his sobs and feel his pain, almost like these are things that I could even touch. I did not want to wound his pride, and let him know that I had seen him, so I laid down back and pretended to be asleep while my heart broke for him.

I shed a few silent tears of my own as well as I repeated over and over in my mind, 'Please wake up Mia.'
