Chapter 68: Everything Changes For A Reason
After pizza, they decide on a horror flick playing in town. She loves horror movies, it's her favorite genre. It's just something about being scared that gets your heart pumping. She loves the thrill of it.
As they sit in the dark theatre, he holds her hand as she tightens her grip on his. The killer chops someone's head off and the music grows creepier and creepier till the jump scare. She jumps and screams, knocking over the bucket of popcorn and drinks they had sitting next to them.
"Holy crap, that was good!" The ending credits roll across the screen, and they get up. When they get to the car, he fishes his keys out of his pants and opens the door for her.
Before she gets in, he holds her against the car and kisses her hungrily. His need making his bulge grow while he runs his hand up and pinches her nipple. Kissing her harder he wishes there was a place that was dark enough for them to disappear into for a few minutes. He needs her now.
He stands back and looks at her with her lips swollen and red from the kiss. Wanting to take her so bad he can't stand it, so he tells her to get in the back seat. She climbs in and he follows her as he starts to unzip his pants. She lays on her back and he shut the door before he slides her pants down and off.
She has a take me now look on her face as he enters her. She maneuvers her legs to a good position as he pulls her against him. Harder and harder he thrusts. She moans with delight and full of so much need to release that she doesn't care about the people getting out of the car next to them.
Instead, it adds fuel to the flame that they might get caught. One last thrust pushes them over the top and they both release hard. Realizing how hard he had been with her he apologizes over and over.
"Honey, it's o.k. I love you. Trust me, if a little love making hurt babies. then no one would be born."
"But we were more violent than normal. I should have restrained myself."
"Oh, hell no! That was the best feeling in the world. I love you more than anything in the world. You're my everything, and you will always be my forever. Don't you forget that Mr." She giggles as she says that last bit. "Now, maybe we better get home before someone does catch us with our pants down and we end up in jail for the night."
They both laugh and put their clothes back on. As they drive home a deer darts out in front of the car and he steers into the other lane to miss it. Unfortunately, he doesn't see the semi coming right at them until it's too late and the car rolls over right off the bridge and down into the ravine.
She wakes up in a hospital room. As she looks around, she notices stark white walls and bright lights that hurt her eyes. She tries to swallow and her throat hurts. Then she realizes why she can't. She has a tube down her throat, and she claws at it eventually ripping it out of her mouth.
While trying to sit up, she finds that she can't, so she raises her arm and notices that there is a hospital bracelet on it. While focusing her eyes, an attendant comes in and then starts to yell at someone outside the room. Who is she yelling for? she thinks to herself, then about 6 doctors and nurses come rushing in to see what the commotion is.
"She's awake. They said that she wouldn't ever wake up." The attendant points to Samantha across the room as she looks at the doctors and the other nurses.
Startled, Samantha starts to get scared. What was she talking about? She looks around at everyone and a middle-aged doctor comes over to her side.
"Hello, I am Dr. Morgan. We are going to be checking you out to make sure you are alright. We will take a few tests and some blood work as well as a cat scan. Then I will be in to get you all caught up on what has happened. O.K?"
Before she could nod or anything he leaves the room, and the nurses start poking and prodding her. Then an x-ray technician wheels her bed down to the cat scan room where after a half an hour Samantha is about to shoot someone. Her head was throbbing from all the bangs, clanks, and other loud noises the machine was making.
Finally, they bring her back to her room and Dr. Morgan comes in. He adjusts her bed to the sitting position slowly and then hands her a glass of water. "It seems to me that you are a miracle. I can't explain it, but all the tests are normal, and the scan shows nothing. You are completely healed, except for the various cuts and bruises that are still healing. Other than that, your fine."
He pauses and grabs ahold of her hand, "There is something else I need to talk to you about before we go any further. Unfortunately, when you came in your unborn baby had been hurt. We tried to save it, but we weren't able to do anything, and you miscarried the next day."
Samantha filled with grief started to cry for her unborn baby who will never be. The doctor held her hand tight and then gave her a hug, letting her cry on his shoulder. After a few minutes he pulled back and then told her the rest.
She listens quietly as he speaks, "I need you to calm down for a minute, please. When you came in your husband was with you. He was in far worse condition and didn't make it through the first night. I am deeply sorry for your pain, but if there is anything we can do for you just ask. I am arranging for a therapist to come in and talk to you, but I must go for now and I will be back a little later."
Still shocked by what he said, she's frozen in place. Her body feels numb except for the ache in her heart and in an instant, she starts crying again. This time she has no one to comfort her as she sits on her hospital bed hooked up to the I.V.
About ten minutes later she hears Kelly's voice, and then she turns to see her and Joel making their way across the room to her. Samantha hugs her and holds on as she cries, unable to let go. Looking over her shoulder she sees Joel sit down in one of the hospital room chairs looking very worried.
"There, there. It will be o.k. We are here now. For once I get to take care of you. I am so sorry Samantha." Kelly rubs her back while she consoles her.
"I don't know what I'm going to do. He was my world. I didn't even get to tell you that I was pregnant either." she stops and starts crying again.
"What do you mean? You were pregnant?"
Joel stands up and walks over. "Honey, I am going to step out for a while. It sounds like you and your sister need to be alone. Just call me when you're ready to go. Samantha, I am sorry hun. You know we will do anything for you." He looks at Kelly and she nods as he turns and walks out the door.
Kelly starts to cry too after Samantha tells her what happened. The room is somber as they both stare at each other. Samantha touches her stomach and starts to cry again.
"Oh, Samantha. I am so so very sorry. I know you wanted a child, and to lose Ben too it is just too much. I am going to stay with you for a couple days. I have already arranged for a babysitter to come in when Joel needs help."
Samantha sinks down in the hospital bed and just looks at Kelly with so much sadness in her eyes. Now she feels nothing except for extreme fatigue as her eye lids start to close.
When she wakes up Kelly is still there asleep in one of the hospital chairs. She doesn't look comfortable, and Samantha is afraid she will get a kink in her neck, so she calls a nurse.
"Can we get one of those pull-out chairs or couches in here? She is insisting on staying here with me. I don't want her getting all knotted up from sleeping funny in a chair." She says to the nurse who is shutting off the call alarm.
She leaves and when she returns, she wheels in a pull-out chair. "Thank you." Samantha tries to smile at her as the nurse sets it up in the corner. She does her best to not wake up Kelly, but she accidently trips over her foot and Kelly bolts up.
Kelly looks around quickly to make sure everything is o.k. and then looks at the nurse. She smiles at her and then thanks her. After the nurse leaves, Kelly goes to Samantha's bed and sits on the side.
"Do you feel O.K?"
"Yeah, I just feel so tired all the time. I guess it's because I was in a coma for two weeks. Funny, you would think that I wouldn't ever want to sleep again. I just don't know what to do with myself, and when I go home it's going to be so quiet without Ben."
