Chapter 78: Kelly Is Pregnant
"Boy the parking lot is packed!" she finds an open spot and a little Mini Cooper sneaks in just before she can reach it. "Damn it." Frustrated, she finally manages to find a spot clear on the other side. She can barely get out her door because she is parked between the next building and a Red Chevy 4x4 Silverado. Once she is free, she hurries to the store.
Inside she grabs a cart and quickly finds her items on her list. First, she needs bay leaves. She looks around and doesn't find them in the baking aisle where the seasonings are. She asks one of the clerks where she can find them. He leads her to the seasoning display in the next aisle.
After a couple more ingredients she completes her shopping. She looks down each checkout lane as she tries to find the shortest line. Finally, she settles herself into the next to last line.
An older woman, maybe 58 is standing in front of her. She admires her hair because she has beautiful long straight white hair. It's got to be down to the middle of her back, and it is so well kept.
The woman turns around as Samantha stares at her. "Oh, hi. Do I know you?"
"No, sorry." Samantha says quickly as she feels extremely embarrassed. "I am just admiring your luxurious hair. It is so beautiful."
"Thank you. It is hard to keep manageable. White hair often gets really dried out, so I use coconut oil to moisturize it." She smiles at Samantha and then turns around to advance in the line.
Samantha follows her and is relieved to find she is almost to the checkout counter. She picks up a pack of gum and then she puts her stuff up to get scanned and bagged. After she pays, she gets back to her car. Her car now has a scratch all the way across her door where the truck was parked. "Shit, what an ass. At least it's not too noticeable."
She packs her groceries in and drives back to her house. As she puts away the food that she's not going to use she starts to make dinner. The aroma of Beef Stroganoff fills the air as it cooks. She notes the noodles are getting softer but not yet done, as she forks it to check.
A noise comes from the front door, and she looks through the door of the kitchen to see Kelly walking in. "Hey, what's up sis?"
Kelly sits down on a stool at the counter, " Well, I just came to check up on you. So, what's been happening with Jonathan? Anything new?"
Samantha finishes cooking and turns off the burners. She turns around with a big grin on her face, "I called him last night and he stayed with me. No, we didn't have sex, but we did sleep together. I just feel so comfortable in his arms. I fell asleep on the couch, and he carried me into the bedroom. Then he undressed me and put me in bed. I woke up this morning with his arms around me."
"I have one question for you."
"Yes?"
"When you woke up this morning did it feel right being in his arms? Or was it awkward?"
"It felt incredibly wonderful. I felt loved, secure, and this sense that everything is going to be alright. He also told me that he wants to be with me for the rest of our lives." Samantha's eyes start to tear up as she thinks about Jonathan.
"Hmm. Well, I guess you found your soulmate. Joel is mine. No one else ever made me feel like he does. I'm empty when we are apart, like a part of me is missing."
"Honestly, when I think about him, I see us married and with kids running all over. It's scary. But deep down inside me I know it's right. I want to grow old with him and die in his arms." She looks down and starts to get out two plates and silverware.
"Here, stay for dinner I just finished and besides you're always hungry. I swear your pregnant again." She giggles and Kelly looks like she's about to blurt something out.
"O.k. Fine. I am. Joel wanted me to wait until we went to the doctor, but I took the test last night and it was positive." Kelly quickly said.
Samantha grabbed her and they both started jumping up and down as they squealed in excitement. She admires her sister. For a while there she had difficulties with men. No matter what she did it seemed that things weren't supposed to work out after John died, then she finally met Joel and it all turned around. It was like God had sent her an angel and made her world whole.
The two of them together is a breath of fresh air compared to a lot of couples Samantha knows. They don't ever seem to fight or get tired of each other, and they do everything together. In her eyes they are the epiphany of a perfect marriage, so completely in love.
They finish dinner and then Kelly tells her she must get back home because Lilly is sick. "Well, make sure you call me tomorrow. Hopefully prince charming will show up after work again tonight. Maybe this time you will let him make love to you."
"Wow, I have to think about that one. I really get wet for him, but I don't want him to think that's all it's about. I'm scared because I think I'm falling in love with him." She looks down at the dishes as she piles them up on the counter.
"You will figure it out one way or another. Just don't let him go. He sounds really like the one for you and you already have him head over heels in love with you. Anyway, I must go. Talk to you tomorrow sis. Love you." She waves and then walks out the door.
She does the dishes and then relaxes on the couch. I really should go for a run but I'm too lazy. I just want to relax. She thinks to herself as she turns on the T.V. When she looks up at the clock, she realizes that it's almost 10 pm and Jonathan might be getting out of work. She doesn't know his schedule but she's pretty sure that he gets out currently.
Wondering if she should call him and take a chance she hesitates. Then she just picks up her phone and does it. It rings, no answer just the machine picking up with his familiar voice as he tells her to leave a message. "Hmm." She puts down the phone on the coffee table and picks up her book.
She pulls up the blanket around her chest and starts reading when the phone rings. Looking down at her phone she sees his name in the contacts flashing. She puts down her book and hits talk. "Hi."
Hearing noise in the background before he talks, she wonders what's going on. "Hi, I see you called me."
"Oh, sorry to bother you. I just wanted to know if you were maybe planning on coming over after work."
"Actually, I would if I could, but I am taking over Sam's shift. He has the stomach flu and they needed someone to deliver. Sorry. If I had my choice, I would be at your house right now wrapping you in my arms. I want you more than I have ever wanted anyone. Is that wrong?"
"Uh, no. I feel the same way." She hesitantly says.
She hears someone in the background telling him he has a delivery, and he hushes them. "Baby, I have to go. I'm needed for a deliver. Talk to you as soon as I can."
