Chapter 12 I wanted to Kiss Her
Adam
I honestly wanted to laugh at Emily's misery but I refrained from doing so. I had given her the entire day off to go home and rest and to think that she would have accepted it. A lot of people, if given that privilege would be happy that they would be able to go home and not have to work–– but no not Emily. I must say I admire her determination and spirit and I am happy that I had hired her as my personal assistant. I needed someone like her who was willing to work and deliver, I just know that she will make my company more successful with those traits of hers. It kind of made me feel bad, no scratch that is more likely cruel to let her clean that messy office downstairs.
That office was very cluttered and it contained a desk, paintings that were thrown all over the room, and two sofas, one that was on top of the desk and the other that was lying on the floor and it needed a thorough sweeping and wiping. The office was to be cleaned by the janitorial staff tomorrow because it had been too shabby for far too long. I know I would be considered evil to know this and still let her do it but I had no choice. She was determined to work to the point that she had annoyed me and made me frustrated that the veins in my head started throbbing at an irregular beat and I could feel a headache coming on that I had to send her downstairs to clean that dirty office. At least one good thing came out of this, the janitorial staff would be happy that they did not have to do it
Continuing my work, I could still feel my headache that had subsided a few hours ago coming back. Getting up, I walked downstairs to the kitchen where I made a cup of coffee. I was going to go up back to my office when I stopped and walked to the room where Emily was. “Emily?” I called out before entering. Turning the door handle, I walked inside and was astonished by what I saw. The office looked immaculate, the floors were glistening and I could actually see the walls. The sofas were lined against the wall in the corner and the desk stood in the middle of the room with the wood glistening. I was shocked that my mouth had hit the floor.
“Cat got your tongue?” she asked, with a smirk on her lips. Walking around the desk and sitting on a chair that I didn't know had existed in the pile she threw her feet up on the desk. I would have told her to get down but when I saw her legs my eyes trailed from her shoes upwards to the hem of the skirt where the rest of her thighs were hidden. I knew right there and then that those legs led straight to heaven. I was like a horny dog, in heat when I saw her in that position and if I didn’t get my shit together, I would most likely be ripping her clothes off her before wrapping one of those legs around my waist then entering her womanly heaven. Clearing my throat, I took my head out of the gutter and went back to the issue at hand.
Looking around once more, I didn't know Emily had it in her. I thought she would've given up and gone home and rest, but no, she actually did clean the messy room making it sparkle and smelling fresh. “Mr. Jacob, are you speechless? Why aren't you saying anything?”
Clearing my throat again, I spoke in my authoritative voice. “Ms. Martinez, I see that you have accomplished your task and accomplished it well, I must commend you on a job well done.”
“Well thank you, sir,” she replied sarcastically.
“Drop the sarcastic act Mis Martinez, you can leave and go home now.” Nodding her head, with one of the brightest and prettiest smiles I have ever seen before, she took down her feet and got up, and walked to the door. Simultaneously reaching for the door handle to open the now-closed door, our hands touched and I could feel the electricity coursing through my body once more just like the time when we first met. Staring into her eyes, I could see pain, hurt, betrayal and mistrust shining through them. They were telling me a story that I didn’t have the slightest idea about but desperately needed to know. All I knew was that I wanted to unravel it and give her the comfort and reassurance she needed. To be the man that would protect her and keep her safe.
I could feel my feet moving and my body getting closer to her. Now standing mere inches from each other, I looked down at her lip and saw them twitch and I couldn’t help but think of doing something that I wanted to do ever since I laid my eyes on them. I wanted to kiss, taste, and savor the sweetness that I knew they possessed before our tongues met. Leaning down, I was about to capture her lips into mine when she backed away. While doing so, she moved her hand which bumped my hand causing the coffee to be spilled all over my suit.
Looking down at the brown coffee stain and then up at her I wanted to be angry but I couldn't. This was my fault, I was the one crossing boundaries that I shouldn't have––here at my company. I can already tell that mouths will be opened and gossip will fly. Word will get around that Adam Jacob was having one of his affairs––which he is known for but with his new personal assistant this time if anyone was to walk by here and see us. They will not only tarnish my image but Emily, she will be caught in the turmoil and I can't afford for that to happen to her.
Aside from that, my dad would be furious and I can't disappoint him. He is counting on me to make the company successful and I can't do that by having these moments with her at the office and also, I didn’t want to blow my chance with Emily. I’m getting to like her and I am feeling things for her. So instead of rushing her, I rather take things slow and see how they go rather than pounce on her.
Looking back at her, I could see that she had her hand over her mouth and fear shining in her eyes. “Miss Martinez, is everything okay?”
“I spoiled your suit,” her voice came out soft as she was afraid to talk to me.
Confused by her sudden behavior, I replied. “It's okay, there's no need to worry.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, I am sure. Why the change in attitude?” I asked, with eyebrows raised.
“I thought that you were going to fire me for spilling coffee on your shirt,” she spoke timidly.
“Fire you? Why would I fire you for something so simple?”
“Well, you fired the receptionist because you were upset that she had mistaken me for an interviewee rather than a worker which was a mistake and a misunderstanding and I spilled coffee on your expensive suit that I couldn't buy which was a mistake.”
Chuckling at her, I had to grip the wall so I wouldn't fall, “I am not going to fire you for something that was a mistake.”
“So why did you fire that girl?”
“I fired her because she had messed up.”
“I just messed up,” she retorted. Sighing, I knew what she was getting at and I saw her logic.
“Okay fine, I will rehire her.” Smiling deviously, she turned on her heel and walked away. Chuckling at the stunt she pulled, I shook my head and went back to my office.
Sitting down, I could hear shuffling in Emily's office while I slipped on what remained of my coffee. The shuffling had stopped and I could hear her door closing which meant that she was gone for the day. This is exactly why I needed someone like Emily here. She had put me in my place and let me realize that I was wrong numerous times. I needed someone like her in my life for I knew that our relationship would be rock solid and that there would be no crumbling in the foundation. Smiling at my thoughts, I looked at the door just in time to see the handle turning. There was only one person who was permitted to open my door without knocking, which meant she hadn’t gone home yet.
She walked with a cloth in her hand and baking soda. No words were exchanged between us, she just came and stood right in front of me. Bending down to my level, she rubbed the baking soda onto my clothes before applying the wet cloth periodically. She did this for a few moments until the stain had disappeared. Staring up at her, I could help but feel admiration, yet again.
