Chapter 19
WAKING UP for the second time only to be beaten up and lose consciousness was building up the fear inside Angelo. He wanted to be brave and forget what he experienced back then to plan a counterattack or at least an escape plan.
He knew he wasn't his sister who knew every martial art there is in the world, but still, he wanted to save himself.
Though discouraged, Angelo wished that Wynter knew that he was missing, in order to save him. He remembered the guy a while ago saying something about the Vazquez’. Long lost son? Me? This would probably be something about their father because that’s the only connection he could think of.
For the third time, Angelo had his consciousness back. He was scared that he might get beaten up again but thankfully they didn't. The relief of his breathing earlier was suddenly replaced with nervousness now when he saw the man in front of him cocking his gun and then pointing it at his head.
All Angelo could do was groan in pain. He didn't have the strength to shout nor even ask what's this man’s problem.
“I’m getting impatient. Where the hell are they?!” the man in front of him shouted.
Suddenly the door opened and a man holding a laptop entered. “Boss, we were able to hack into Ms. Vazquez ’unit, and I believe that you would be delighted with this.” The man showed the laptop screen to its so-called boss.
Angelo's eyes immediately widened when he heard “Ms. Vazquez” from the mouth of the newcomer. Wynter? From his seat, Angelo could not see what they were watching but he could hear what was going on.
A lot of things got broken and later on, he could hear two voices arguing.
“What the hell, Wynter—”
“Don’t you dare ‘what the hell’ me, Williams!”
Wynter? Nick? To Angelo's understanding, the two seem to be getting physical. He wanted to know why so he listened attentively even though his body condition was no longer good.
If he was worried about the two, the man called the boss was overjoyed at what he saw.
“If that's the case then it's over, Dom. Forget our friendship.”
“Let me explain, Wyn—”
“You already did, right? And you had that nonsense explanation. I made it clear, Dom. I made my fvcking conditions clear.”
The boss laughed out loud. “Finally! Vazquez and Williams are breaking down. ” Angelo was surprised by what he was saying, but was immediately taken aback when he looked at him. “After so many years, you were the only key for the downfall of those two. I should be thankful,” he said with a smile.
“W-What’s your problem?” At last, Angelo was able to speak.
The man returned to sitting in the chair in front of him. They closed the laptop earlier so he no longer knew what was happening to his sister and the one he loves. “Good question. Good question. Well, I’ve got a lot of problems because of your family and the Williams’.” Perhaps the person he was talking to noticed that he did not understand what he was saying. “Oh come on. Don’t act as if you do not know what I’m talking about.”
With a weak voice, Angelo answered, “B-But I really don’t.”
The man holding the laptop came again and then spoke, “It is true, senor. The head of the Vazquez family seemed to have left his son in the dark.”
The boss looked at him then nodded slowly. "I see." He stood up then reached for his gun again on the table next to him. "Well then, you only have one purpose for us after all." Angelo's nervousness and fear doubled when the man aimed the gun at his forehead again. “Your death will complete the mission, besides, that’s what lady Vazquez said.” The guy smirked.
Angelo was sweating bullets. He was breathing heavily and fast. He just closed his eyes while wondering if this is the end of his life. He regrets letting Charles go, he should’ve at least kissed him one last time. While waiting for the gunman to shoot him, only memories of him and Charles occupied his mind. He thought of nothing else but him. For even his last time in the world, in his mind, he’ll find peace.
After what seemed to be an eternity, Angelo heard a deafening sound of explosion followed by multiple exchanges of gunshots. He quickly opened his eyes and roamed around the room. He could see fire coming from the left side of the room and then he felt the end of a gun against his forehead once again, but unlike a while ago, the culprit was now behind him.
“What the fvck is happening?!” galit nitong sigaw.
Angelo heard the laptop holder answer earlier. “We appear to be attacked by—”
“Of course we are under attack!” The gun he was holding hit his forehead even harder. “Give me an update of what’s happening outside!”
The person he was talking to was about to answer when the door suddenly opened and a woman entered with a gun. She was calmly walking towards them, as she coldly said, “I’ll give you an update. Your men are suffering outside, though most of them are dead since they blocked my way.”
The boss was obviously stunned. “Y-You! How are you here?!”
“Oh simple.” Wynter glanced at him before looking back at the man whose gun was ready to shoot him. “I rode a motorcycle to get here. Actually, it’s kinda funny.” Wyn let out a cold chuckle before she went back to being serious and all. “But I’m not here to tell you so, never mind. Any last words, Igor?”
The man tsked. “How about you ask that to your precious brother? One wrong move, Ms. Vazquez, and his head will blow off.”
Wynter reached for a chair and calmly sat there as she played with her gun. “Well, one thing’s for sure, Igor. It wasn’t just me who you pissed off.”
With that, Angelo heard a gunshot and blood splattered on his head. Kasunod nun ay ang pagbaril ni Wynter sa lalakeng katabi ng tinawag na Igor.
Only then did Angelo see the concern on his younger sister's face. “¿Cómo estás tú, Hermano? ¿Estás bien?” Wynter asked before pulling out a knife and cutting the ropes tied on his wrists and legs. “Can you walk, Gabby?”
Angelo was still stunned by what was going on and before he could answer his sister’s question, a set of strong arms carried him in a bridal way. He quickly turned his head to look at the person, only to be surprised with Charles’ serious face staring at him.
“Don’t bother struggling to get free, because I have no plans letting you go,” Charles softly said, and because of that, Angelo was able to calm down and settled his head on Charles’ chest as he dozed off.
