Six months had passed since Alina walked into Camila's room, daring her that she would make Alpha Killan despise her with all his heart. Like always, Camila sneered and asked her to mind her own business since Alpha Killan would never believe her, but it seems like she was wrong. What Alina had done to Alpha Killan was only known to her. Slowly, Killan had started withdrawing himself from her, and whenever she asked him what was wrong, he would tell her nothing was wrong, even though she could clearly see it.
He no longer spent time with her but with Alina, whom he had appointed as his personal assistant. She was left out of many of the pack duties, and even if she were interested in taking part in them because she was a Luna, Alpha Killan would advise that it would be better if she left some of the Luna duties to Alina because she had a wolf like her. With a deep sigh escaping her lips, Camila closed the book she was reading and sat on the rocking chair in front of the fireplace. Five hours had passed since Alpha Kilan was called by Alina after an emergency had occurred that they needed to handle, and he had yet to come. She had tried calling him many times already, but he cut the calls even without asking why she called.
She had offered them a helping hand, but because she was having a fever, Apha Killan asked her to stay inside. Even when she told him that she had healed a day ago, he just chose to ignore her. Getting bored of staring at the fire as its tongues danced in excitement, she took the sweater lying beside her and started knitting it.
"The food is ready, Luna Camila," her personal chef called her.
"I'll be there in a second," she responded without raising her head. The chefs footsteps retreated away, and Camila took out her phone to call Killan for the tenth time. Unlike before, the phone rang, and after a while, it beeped on the other end before anyone answered it. Shaking her head to get rid of the thoughts building up in her mind, Camila walked out of the living room to the dining area, where she found the table already laid out for her. She served herself some rice and chicken, ate, and retired to her bed, where she stayed for a while, waiting for Alpha Killan, who never returned.
The next day, Camila was woken up by the creaking of her bedroom door. She sat on the bed, yawned, and swirled her legs off the bed. "Where did you go yesterday? Camila asked the man standing in front of her.
"I told you there was an emergency, Alpha Killan responded, walking to the bathroom.
"Emergecny?" She sneered sarcastically, causing Killan to turn to look at her. "Well, I hope you enjoyed your emergency." She smiled at him and walked out of the room without taking a shower or washing her face. The other night at the dinner table, she was surprised to see the Alphas Beta dining with them. Curious, she asked him if they were done taking care of their emergency, and from him, he learned that there was no emergency. She went ahead and asked him if he knew where Alpha Killan was, and because that beta has always been honest with her, he told her that she saw him driving away with Alina.
"Camila," Alpha Killan's cold voice called her.
"Another emergency has come up." She smirked, holding his gaze. She saw him biting his lower lips, and after a while he looked away, irritated.
"I feel like I don't know you at all," he said, taking off his suit jacket.
"I think I am the one who is supposed to say that. Do you remember when Alina came into our lives and all she could do was create havoc? You promised me that you'd never believe in anything she said because you knew all her flaws. Do you even..."
"Shut up, woman!" he yelled, his eyes bloodshot red. "I won't hear a word against her," he warned, growling underneath.
Camila laughed and looked at him. She clapped her hands, asking herself how it was that she had never seen that. Six months had passed, and he would always ignore her whenever she would tell her about Alina's schemes, but that was the first time he was yelling at her, telling her he wouldn't hear a word against her. "I didn't realize that you two have become so close that you can't hear a word against her," she said, blinking away the tears that were about to come out of her eyes. "I wonder if you tell her the same thing when she badmouths me, she murmured, wiping a tear that had slipped from her eyes with the back of her hand.
After standing there for a while, she asked him, "Have you thought about what you'll do when all that I have been telling you about her turns out to be true?" He tensed, and after a while, he turned to face her.
"And have you thought of what you'll do because all what you have been telling me about her has been nothing but lies?" He asked her with a disgusting smirk curled around his lips. Only God knows how Alina always managed to hide her evil deeds. Camila has always been aware of her shemes, and when she involves Killan, everything turns upside down. She had been the one who had been saying the truth, but because of a lack of evidence, she was always turned into a liar.
"Truth is always simple, but when you try to explain it in a way that people can see it, you'll realize how hard it is," she murmured to herself, scratching her head. Killan spun and walked to the bathroom while she decided it would be better if she left that room that way and headed downstairs for breakfast. "Truth will always prevail," she muttered silently, swearing that she would never talk to him about Alina. It was still a shock how much things had changed between them. From the best couples to people who can't stand each other's presence, Killan had always been nothing but her support, but now she couldn't even rely on him.
"Only if Ash was here could he have helped me expose her. I wonder what he's doing?" She mumbled, twirling her hair with her fingers. It had been a long time since she had heard from him. The last day he went to see her, he looked very disturbed, and no matter how hard she tried to figure out what was eating her from inside, she couldn't succeed. She even asked him if there was something bothering him, but he said he was only having a bad day. Since that day, despite his promise to come back soon, he has never come for her. "I miss you, Ash; I really do. Once in my life, after telling you that I am living the best of it, I feel like I've gone back to who I was in my father's house. Alone. There is no one to talk to, and now that I have been trying to stop Alina's bad deeds and haven't succeeded, almost the whole pack is deserting me. They think I am jealous, but I am not. I am only telling the truth, Ash, I swear. You know me better than anyone; you know that I don't lie, so why would they call me a liar?" She talked to Ash's photo on her phone.
A tear slipped on her phone's screen, and that was when she knew she was crying. She bowed her head on the table and let the tears come out as much as they wanted. Ash had always told her she didn't need to block the tears when they wanted to fall out; she should let them go, and even if the wound wouldn't heal or the pain wouldn't go away, at least she would feel okay.
"Trouble in paradise?" A familiar voice called from behind her. "I really don't know what's wrong with you, Camila. Despite my warning about involving yourself in my evil schemes, why did you dare badmouth me?" She asked, gritting her teeth with anger.
"I don't know what you are talking about." Camila chuckled. He had done it again. Anything he told Killan never stayed between them like in the past; he would always go ahead and tell Alina everything.
"Are you calling your Alpha a liar? Don't you have any respect, Camila?" She growled at her. Camila could see her wolf glowing in her eyes. Using the last card she had, even though people no longer respected her, they feared her because of it, so she turned to face her.
"And Alina, in case you have forgotten, I am your Luna, and you must talk to me with respect."
"Luna?" she scoffed, tilting her head sideways. "If Killan regarded you as his Luna, he would be taking your side, but look, he's taking mine. And do you know where we went to yesterday?" She asked with a tinge of mischief clouding her eyes. "We went to see the doctor because I was feeling nauseous, and guess what? I am pregnant." She giggled, twirling around like a ballerina.
Camila stood to face her, not believing what she had heard. "Is it true? Could she be carrying his child?" She asked herself, listening to the rapid breathing of her heart. She felt pain radiating through her body, and all she wanted was to clutch her throat and sit on the ground. "No, I shouldn't let her words get into my head. Killan will never do this to me." She took a deep breath, calming her racing heart.
"You don't believe me? Do you, Camilla?" She smirked. "Anyway, I expected that from you. You know, Camila, this is your first love, and you don't know how selfish men can turn. I don't see the reason why you keep on trusting the man who has been bringing you nothing but pain. People said relationships are built on trust, but he doesn't trust you; isn't that a red flag you should have noticed?" She asked her.
Camila swallowed the painful lump on her throat, pushed the golden strand of hair at the back of her ear, and said, "He does trust me." She said that in such a low voice, given that if Alina wasn't a werewolf, she couldn't have heard it.
"Are you trying to lie to yourself? I don't need to explain to you what it is that I mean by there being no trust in your relationship." She smirked again at her. Camila glared at her, and all she wanted to do at that moment was grab her hair, twirl her around, and wipe the smirk off her face with a hot slap.
"I know that look, Camila. Come slap me!" She dared her, docking to her level since she was taller than her. "Anyway," she sighed, sitting on the table, "if he trusted you, he could have always investigated me regardless of the things you told him that I did, but look, he trusts me after shading a few crocodile tears and turns you into the real culprit." She laughed so loud, flipped her hair backward, and clapped her hands. "Anyways, I'll be going. It's high time we start shopping for our yet-to-be-born baby." She smiled and walked out of the office.
"You are not pregnant; you are lying to me." She yelled back at her, but Alina just smiled and went away. If Alina was truly pregnant, then she would lose the little respect she was left with in the pack. Despite them getting married for a year now, she hadn't succeeded in getting pregnant for him. They had tried all methods and visited all doctors, but nothing happened. In fact, the reason she had been tolerating Alpha Killan's mistreatment was because she thought that he was angry because she couldn't give him an heir. Even though Alpha Killan had given up hope, she never did; she still met doctors on her own, tried different herbal medicines, and was hoping that one day the moon gods would bless her with a child of her own.
Camila doesn't know how long she has been slumped on the ground in the dining area. She had zoned out and was swimming in deep thoughts. It was later that she was jarred from her half-conscious state of mind by the beta's voice. "Luna Camila, you are needed at the office," he told him.
"I don't work in the office any longer, Beta Stevens. You might not know this, but all my duties were given to Alina," she said, even without raising her head to look at him. She was too tired to do that.
"I know that Camila but the Alpha needs your presence right now," he sighed, giving her his hand.
"What had Alina accused me of this time?" She asked while taking a deep breath and trying to massage the left eye, which had been twitching for a while now.
"I am sorry, but I can't tell you, Luna Camilla." Beta Stevens sighed, looking at her. He had been the only person who still treated her with respect in the pack because, like her, he didn't trust Alina even a bit. He had never told Camila about this, but since she started laying accusations against Alina but failed to give out evidence, he decided to investigate her on her behalf. Camila had greatly saved her wife when she was in need of blood, and he would never forget that gesture.
"It's okay. I know he asked you not to tell me anything, but this time the way I am feeling, I know I must be in a deep shit," she said, leading the way out of the dining room.
