Camila dragged herself to the alpha's office, where he found Alina standing behind him with a smirk on her face. Given the glow in her eyes, she knew that she had something up her sleeve. She stood at the door, waiting for Alpha Killan's permission to get in.
"Get in!" he said rudely, without even sparing her a glance. Her heart ached, but she swallowed the pain away and looked at him, the elders of the council present in there, his parents, his brother, and Alina.
"What have I done this time?" She asked with a bored expression on her face. She has lost count of the number of times Killan has dared to question her in front of the elders as if she were some kind of criminal.
"You are the one who should tell us what you have done," Alpha Kilan's father responded, glaring at her harshly.
"I haven't done anything, sir." She bowed slightly, staring deep into his eye.
"My dear elder's I know you must be wondering what my father is talking about, but I'll make it clear to all of you," Alpha Killan started motioning for Alina to sit on the chair beside him. She sat and smirked at Camila, who chose to ignore her, swallowing the other lump growing on her throat. "From today, my best friend Alina Mellow will be officially taking over as the Luna of this pack," he announced, and the whole office was filled with why questions. Camila gasped, staring at Killan as if he didn't know him at all. How will he dare do that? That was her chair and position, for god's sake! She wanted to scream but remained silent.
"The reason why I have done so is because Camila Rasort took advantage of her position, logged in to our secret accounts, and released all our secrets to our rival, her father, Alpha Cameroon!" he announced, and all the elders gasped in shock.
"What? Why would I do that? I am not on speaking terms with my dad. I would never do such a thing!" She refused, looking at all of them. Please, you all have to trust me. Besides, it's Alina who has done that!" She pointed at her.
"What? No? Camila, why would I do that? I even don't know the passwords to these things. Don't forget the fact that it's you, the Luna of this pack, who had access to these secret accounts." Alina said, and Camila swallowed the next words she was about to say. It's true that only she and the alpha of the pack had access to the secret account.
"Besides, your fingerprints are all over the laptop," Alina said, tucking a piece of paper under her face. With trembling hands, Camila took the paper, and her eyes widened in shock. The fingerprints found on the laptop matched hers. "I don't know how this happened. KIllan I swear, you have to trust me. I didn't do that. Just be careful; there must be someone else to whom you gave access to those accounts apart from me." She told them, but no one was ready to listen to her.
Ignoring her, Alpha Killan turned to the elders to continue his speech: "It had also come to our realization that Camila here was never mistreated by her father as she had claimed. It was their plan. Alpha Cameroon was to take a loan from me, fail to pay it, pretend to dislike her illegitimate daughter, and bring her to me as a mistress. I don't know how he found out, but he knew before me that his cursed daughter was my mate and that I wouldn't let my mate stay at my house as my mistress but my Luna. She was to gain my trust over the years and then send all our secrets to him. In other words, she was a spy, and thanks to Alina Mellow here, she was the one who found out about all this." He said.
When Alpha Killan mentioned Alina, Camila found herself erupting into painful laughter. "Alina?" She asked, pointing at her and laughing again, ignoring the elder's gaze and looking at her as if she had gone mad.
"My dear elder's," Alpha Killan continued when she stopped laughing to catch a breath, making it obvious enough that he wasn't interested in what she had to say or do. "First, because of that, Alina has to take over the Luna position because she will never do such a thing and she is the best candidate when it comes to this. Second, I, Alpha Killan of the Full Moon Pack, reject Camila Mellow as my mate because she is a traitor, and last but not least, I take Alina Mellow as my chosen mate, and for Miss Camila's act of traitory, she has to be...
Camila cut him off. "Punished, huh?" She asked him and then laughed. "Well, let me save you the hard time. I know how all this will go; I'll go to court and ask questions until I am proven guilty, which unfortunately, your dear Luna has already proved," she said with a cold voice, waving the paper in her hands. "So please, instead of tiring me with all this, just mention the punishment already." She yelled at him, tearing the paper into pieces. She just couldn't believe that he wouldn't even investigate but would jump to conclusions with Alina's side of the story.
"I feel stupid for admitting this, but once in my life I am grateful to you, Luna Alina," she smiled bitterly, looking at her. "You know, all that you told me in the morning was the truth, but I was just trying to lie to myself, but you know what? Thanks for pulling all this together again. I don't know how you did it, fingerprints and all those things, but bravo!" she clapped all alone. "With all these, you have proven to me that you have been right all this while and I was living a lie." She smiled again.
"Shut up, Camila! Please don't drag me into this mess with you. Please, elders, don't listen to her because, like I said earlier, since last night I haven't stepped my feet out of this office trying to figure out who the culprit is," she defended herself when the elders looked at her, wanting to know if it's true she was with her in the morning.
"Uh, hello, Luna Alina," Camila called out to her to get her attention. "You don't need to talk that loudly; you'll be stressing the baby. He is the pack's heir. Have you forgotten?" She smirked, pulling a piece of paper from her dress, which Alina had dropped before walking out of the dining room earlier. Test results: one week pregnant. Mother: Alina Mellow, Father: Killan Hendy." She chuckled, feeling tears brimming in her eyes.
"Why?" She then asked Alpha Killan, who was looking at her with shock in his eyes. "Why? Killan? What have I ever done to you?" She asked him again. "All this while I have been nothing but loyal to you, the best wife, and even though I have sometimes slipped off my luna duties because I have never been strong, I still tried. I loved you, Killan. You should know that I have never felt this way toward anyone. I never wanted anything from you. Not the Luna position, not your money, nothing, but your love. See what you have given me—a dream in the first year of our marriage that you yourself snatched from me and gave me pain instead. You knew what Alina had always wanted from you, and it was you who told me she was a golddigger, but today she is carrying your child. You have the guts to accuse me that I am a spy, and I have released all the pack secrets to your enemy, who is also my enemy!" She chuckled and then paused to take a deep breath.
"You don't even want to know the other side of my story. You haven't even looked at the CCTV cameras since there are a million of them in this office to see if it's true that it's me who did that, but no, you decided to believe Alina, who has nothing but a piece of paper that can be faked. Let's forget all this because I know you don't trust me. For how long have you been cheating on me?" She asked him.
"Well, you won't tell me that, right? How about this for six months? I got it right?" She laughed again while shaking her head. Thanks to the CCTV cameras in the mansion, because that was where she found out about that. The other night, when Beta Stevens told her that there were no emergency meetings, she decided to visit the security guard at the gates who controlled all the cameras and see if it was true that all the times he spent the night, sometimes a week, without seeing her, he truly was in his office taking care of the pack issues. That was when she met the worst horror of her life. He saw him, right in front of the camera, walking out of their room, but his destination had never been his office but Alina's room, where they would have some passionate, wild nights.
She even went ahead and visited every security house at the entire pack, and she saw their footage of them visiting restaurants, having fancy romantic dinners, and even spending the night in one of the villas outside the pack. She was really broken. She decided that she was the stupidest person in the world because, as Alina had told her, she had been seeing the red flags but ignored them. What hurt her even more was that she still thinks that she deserved it and that it was entirely her fault. Due to her lack of wolf, she never satisfied Alpha Killan in bed because she would always fall weak and pass out before he was done with her. She couldn't give him a baby despite knowing that he had been wishing to have one, and of course she wasn't pretty and educated like Alina.
She thought that if the doctor she was currently seeing would help her, she would give him a baby, but it seems like it was too late. She had really hoped that what Alina told her at the dinner was a lie, but after reading that paper, her whole world crushed down on her head.
"You know, instead of treating me like a criminal and punishing me for things I have never done, you could have just told me that you don't love me anymore, Killan. I love you, and your happiness has always been my first priority. If you don't know about this, six months ago, you took advantage of the fact that your favorite dog had died in my hands to shut me out of your life and welcome Alina once again, even though I wasn't at fault for your dog's death. It was Alina who poisoned him and then asked me to watch over him since she was going to the washroom. But she did that because she knew before she came out, the dog would already be dead."
"Your mom got pushed down the stairs; your favorite suit was burned; the decisions of the pack were taken without your conset, making you suffer great losses; traitors were sneaked in at the pack; all these have been my fault." She chuckled. "Tell me, what could I have gained by pushing your mom down the staircase? Why would I burn your favorite suit, given to you by your deceased grandmother? Why would I take decisions for the pack without consulting you, the alpha of this pack? And why would I sneak in a traitor given that your downfall would have also been my downfall?" She took a breath, looking at the city below them through the glassy walls.
"The moment you realized you didn't love me anymore, you could have told me. I could have disappeared from your life, and you could have never even found traces of me. I swear, Killan, all these embarrassing accusations could have never been necessary." She sniffed, and after taking a deep breath, she continued, "No one has ever loved me all my life, and lacking your love couldn't have affected me that much. If I had endured seeing my father love kids who were not even his blood for nineteen years and I could get over it, I could have gotten over you as well." She turned to lock eyes with him.
"Since you have decided that I am guilty over this once again, I won't even try to prove myself not guilty, nor will I prove myself guilty because you, as the Alpha of this pack, are the one who is supposed to look over it because it's your duty. You can go through the CCTV footage as I had suggested earlier, hire private investigators, or do anything you want to find the truth and lie in this," she stared at Alina while saying that because she had directed that to her," but until then," she tore her gaze from her and locked it with Alpha Killan once again. "I, Camila Rasort, accept your rejection, accept the stripping down of my position, offer my congratulations to Luna Alina, wish you two the best in your love lives, and to my dear elders and Alpha of this pack." She took a deep breath and looked at them while kneeling on the ground. And with her head bowed down, she finished her speech: "I accept the punishment that you, my people, shall give to me."
She inhaled deeply, letting the silence that had reigned over the office since she had started talking surround her, her heart beating wildly while wimping at the pain erupting through her body for accepting the rejection. "I wonder what kind of punishment I'll be given?" She wondered inwardly admist the pain.
