Thirty Three
"Shut up!" Alpha Killan's voice thundered, making the girl shudder in fear. "Who sent you here?" He asked the girl, grabbing her by her collar. "I said, who sent you?" He asked, ignoring the girl's cry that he was hurting her. "Maybe you don't know this, but I, Alpha Killan, don't stand anyone talking ill of my Luna; do you hear me?" He asked, dropping the girl on the ground.
"I am not speaking ill of her. I am saying the truth; please give me my money." The girl cried, grabbing Luna Alina's legs. Alpha Killan kicked her in the ribs, and the girl rolled on the ground, coughing out blood. "Please don't kill me, Alpha Killan. Just kill me after I am done buying my mother medicine, which I can't do until Luna Alina gives me my share." The poor girl pleaded while sitting on her legs.
The elder, who had been questioning her from the beginning, picked her up from the floor and asked her, How much do your mother's drugs cost?"
"A hundred dollars, sir," she responded, a glint of light appearing in her eyes despite them being clouded with tears.
"Here, five hundred dollars. Go buy your mother's medicine and use the rest, okay?" He wiped her tears and helped her get to the door. Crying with happiness, the girl touched his feet and hugged him, saying, "Thank you, sir." Before the elder could respond, the girl had already disappeared behind the doors and had run towards her home. The office remained silent as people watched the elder, who had given the girl some money, wipe her blood from the floor. After he was done, he bowed to Alpha Killan and walked out of the office silently. Four more elders did the same, and the rest were left there wondering whether they should follow the others or remain there because, until that moment, no one was sure if the girl was telling the truth or if she was lying.
"The five of you should know that if you have chosen to go all out on me, you are all fired." Alpha Kilan threatened them.
"We know that Alpha Killan You should know that I have always trusted and supported you, but not anymore. I am fed up with the many dramas taking place at this office. I mean, this is an office, not a goddamn theater! And that's why, starting today, I am resigning as the head of the elders, and I'll only come back the day you find out the truth and lie on all the accusations that have been made against Luna Alina. I'm not saying she is the real culprit, nor am I saying she is clean, but we never know. She may be both or any of those." The elder bowed.
"You should know that you are sounding exactly like someone I despise so much, and you know what I do to people who try to sound like her." Alpha Killan chuckled. "Do you want to know who the person is? She is.."
"Camila. I know that Alpha Killan, and you don't need to tell me. And if you have never heard this, she once said that the reason you kill everyone who sounds like her or who badmouths Alina is not because you believe that they are the real culprits and they should be punished, but because of your fear. You don't know what you will do when all these accusations turn out to be true, and that's why you let the fear overpower you and silence them. At first, I didn't agree with her, Alpha Killan, but after I witnessed that all by myself today when that girl was talking, I knew she was true. It's fear that's ruling you, my dear Alpha, and whether you like it or not, the truth shall one day come to light, and I really don't know what you'll do when it turns out that your dear Alina is not who she has been all this while." The elder chuckled. "If all the accusations about her turn out to be true, then I pity those who suffered from trying to help you open your eyes because it will only mean that they died for no reason."
"Elder Pius!" Alpha Killan yelled, gritting his teeth in anger. He rose from his seat and walked toward the elder, puffing like an angry bull. Before he could do whatever he was about to, gasps of shock echoed from outside the office. Everyone at the office rushed out, and they also gasped. The girl who has been accusing Alina was standing outside Beta Harris' room with a suitcase in her hands.
"I knew it. She is nothing but a thief. What are you doing with Beta Harrsis's bag?" Alina screamed, finally getting her voice back.
"It's not just a bag, Luna Alina. You know I don't like it when someone calls me a liar, and once it happens, I always do whatever it takes to clear my name and show everyone that I was only telling the truth." She smiled.
"What are you talking about?" Alina started stammering. She looked at Beta Harris, wanting to know what was in that bag, and she knew that something was definitely wrong, judging from how pale his face had turned out to be. "What is in there?" She asked, attempting to snatch the bag away, but the girl refused.
"Of course you would want to take it," she smirked. "Anyway, whatever is in here is what you and he are hiding from everyone else. See," And with that, the girl emptied everything in there. Piles of brand new cash fell to the ground, causing everyone to gasp in shock. Beta Harrsi, who had finally come back to her senses, yelled.
"You thief! That's my money; I have been saving it since I started working here."
"Liar!" The girl called back. "Sir," she called, going towards the elder who had saved her from Alpha Killan's beatings, "look at this hundred dollar note carefully and tell them what you see."
"It's new." The elder responded, looking at her with confusion.
"I know it's new, sir, but look careful. Wait," she said, taking a hundred-dollar note from the five hundred dollars he had given her. Look at this, sir, and tell me the difference." She handed it over to him. After looking at it for a while, the elder shouted.
"Yes, I see it now. The notes present in that bag lack serial numbers, meaning they weren't out to the world yet, and the one that I gave you has the serial number."
"See. Now lie to us that it's your money." The girl smirked at Beta Hariss, and then turning to face the elder, she said, "I'll be going for sure now, sir. I just didn't want to live with the expression that I am a liar." With that, everyone watched as she skipped happily towards the main gate and disappeared behind it. Alpha Killan walked towards the notes lying on the ground and looked at them one by one. When he was sure that it was indeed the money he had locked in the underground vault, he turned to face the trembling Harris.
"Speak!" he growled at him.
"It's. It's.." He stammered, looking in Alina's direction.
"It's what?" Killan asked him. When he opened his mouth to speak, a loud, painful moan startled them.
"Alina!" Alpha Killan panicked, picking the passed-out Alina from the ground. "Guards, lock Beta Haris in the cells; I'll question him later." He demanded, ignoring his statement that Alina was faking passing out because she knew he was going to mention her involvement in the theft. In their room, Alpha Killan asked the doctor to come in, whom he instructed to be living at the palace because of Alina's weak condition. When he was done checking her, he assured Apha Kilan that nothing was wrong, as she had passed out due to stress. Kilan tucked her under the sheets, and when she was about to leave, intending to question Beta Haris and want to know where the rest of the money was, Alina gripped his hands.
"Please, don't leave me. Stay here with me, please," she begged in a weak voice.
"Of course, baby. I'll stay with you here. But first, I'll go and take a shower," he smiled, planting a kiss on her forehead. Alina smiled weakly and asked him to take his time. Half an hour later, Killan came back only to find her sitting on the sofa beside the bed, watching her favorite TV show. "Baby, the doctor said you should rest." He reminded her.
"I know, baby, but I am tired of sleeping. I always have nightmares." She sniffed, bowing her head.
"Nightmares? Since when and why didn't you tell me?" He asked her, cupping her chin while rubbing her cheeks with his thumb.
"Because I didn't find it necessary. I thought they would end, but they are not." She cried.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Alpha Killan asked, pulling her closer by her waist.
"It's our baby. I dream of him. He wants to know why I didn't avenge his death. In my dreams, I and he are standing on a cliff. He is big, and he is strangling me. When I tell him that we already avenged Camila because she was already banished, he calls me a liar and pushes me off the cliff. I wake up before I hit the ground." She sniffed, more tears welling out of her eyes.
Alpha Killan rubbed her back, slowly calming her down. 'I don't know what to do. I can't sleep any more, and when the night ascends, I get afraid. Yesternight he came up with a demand that we both can't fulfill because we are busy and we need to focus on issues of the pack." She sobbed.
"What's his demand, baby? Just tell me. I'll fulfill it as long as he promises to let you sleep in peace." He assured her, kissing her tears away.
"No baby, just focus on the pack for now because we..."
Alpha Killan pressed his index finger on her lips to stop her from completing her sentence: We can, baby. Who said we couldn't, huh? Just tell me, and I'll make sure it's done." He promised her.
"Are you sure, baby?" Alina asked with big, innocent eyes.
"Yes baby. I am sure." He smiled, holding her gaze so that she would know he wasn't lying but was serious.
"Fine," she wiped her tears and turned to face him, "he said he will stop haunting me if we give him a sibling whom he will be playing with in her or his dreams once he or she is born." She said that, and Alpha Killan remained silent.
"See, baby," she sobbed, "I told you we couldn't. "Just don't worry about me, baby. I'll let him haunt me until the day we are both ready to have another child." She said.
"No, baby. If he wants a sibling, let's give him one." Killan chuckled, pulling her into his arms.
"But, baby, the pack needs you to know." She giggled, trying to get away from him.
"Nope. The pack can always wait. For now, let's make another baby." He winked, capturing her lips for a deep, intense kiss that lasted for a minute. They then broke their kiss to take a breath.
"Do you want to kill me?" Alian asked, chuckling.
"Nay. I was just missing my wife, and this kiss made me realize how badly I was craving her." He whisphered against her left ear, fanning his breath on her face, which made her shudder in desire. With a simple lift, he carried her to the bed, where it didn't take long before they both screamed in ecstasy as he orgasmed deep inside her womb.
Alpha Killan turned to face her, asking if she would join him for a bath, but chuckled when she saw she was already passed out. "My poor wife." He kissed her forehead and went to the bathroom for another cool shower. Once done, Alpha Kiilan silently walked out of the room and walked towards the questioning room.
"Go and bring that thief here!" He asked the guard guarding the door.
"I am sorry, sir." The guard bowed, but Killan didn't get his message.
"I said, go and bring that thief Beta Harris here!" He growled because he never liked repeating himself, and everyone knew that. "Are you new here?" He asked the guard, who shook his head in disagreement. "Then go before I make you suffer the same fate as him."
"I am sorry, sir, but he's dead." The guard bowed.
"Dead? What do you mean by dead? Are you kidding me? He was alive half an hour ago!" He walked out of the room.
"Yes, sir, but right after you left, we locked him up and later had gunshots. We ran towards his cell, thinking he was shooting the guards at the door, but we were shocked to see him shot instead." The guard explained.
"How many times?" Alpha Killan asked, taking the corner that would take him to the cell area.
"Eleven times, sir, on the chest," the guard said.
"Did you find who shot him?" He inquired while walking through the cells.
"No sir. Unfortunately, the person who shot him is not here, and an expert believes that it was a sniper who did it." The guard told him everything he was told by the head of the investigation team.
"A sniper? Alpha Kilan asked, "You all must be..."
Before he could say anything, another shot was taken. Thank goodness the guard beside him jumped in front of him and took the shot.
"Harrison!" He shook the lifeless guard lying on his chest peacefully.
"Guards!" He called it coming back to his senses. "Take cover; we are under attack!" He yelled, dodging the bullets coming towards him.
