Thirty Five
Alpha Killan sighed, waking up from the ground. He helped Alina up as well and then pulled her closer to him to shield her from the scorching sun. Looking back at the guards, who were looking at her with curiosity, he cleared his throat and said, "Come on guys. You should all know that my Alina is here with sharp hearing. I am sure General Kian mentioned that somewhere in the middle of the sentence, and none of us heard it but Alina. She has always been keen."
"If that's the case, why didn't she just say it when General Kian questioned her? She kept on mumbling, making us stay out here longer than we expected," the guard, with a smirk on his face, complained.
"It's over, guys; let's get back to the house before we collapse right here. The sun is so hot that you would think the moon gods have struck a curse on us." Another guard waved his hands, asking the other one to let go of all that.
"We are cursed." Another guard, who was older than the rest, mumbled
"We are?" Another chuckled, "By who?"
"The moon gods, of course. I mean, we all saw what happened when Luna Camila died. It's the same scorching effect that occurred that day," he said, and the other cleared his throat as if reminding him that Alpha Killan was still there with them. After getting their message, he cleared his throat, combing his hair with his thick fingers. What I meant to say is that we should all get in because, as Patrick said, we may collapse if we stay here." He led the way, practically running away from that place. The other guards watched his disappearance back at the palace, and Pete burst into laughter. Alina, who hadn't yet gotten over what had just happened, asked Killan if they could get back inside because she was tired from standing. Back in her room, the first thing she saw was her phone lying on the bed. She picked it up and excused herself.
She closed the bathroom door behind her, thinking of possible ways to stop the guards from tracking her number. She could easily throw it away and buy another one, but what of the contacts she had saved in there? She knew by the time she would go get another and copy everything in there to the new one, the guards would have arrived, and she would end up being caught for something she escaped. "Thanks to Alpha Killan for getting blinded by my false love." She thought while fanning her face with her palms. A cold shower has always helped her think clearly and find solutions to all her problems. She quickly ran her bath and sat in there, letting all kinds of solutions flock into her brain. Beta Harris's image passed through her memories, and she giggled with happiness. "Finally, I have gotten rid of her." She smiled while playing with the water.
Harris had dared turn her into his sex slave; he talked to her whenever he wanted, and he had turned her into something he could get his anger from. She had never wanted to get him killed, but after he was about to tell Killan that she was also involved in the theft, she was left with no choice. It's not like Killan learning about her involvement would have been a problem. No. She could have just lied that he forced her, and given the bruises he had left all over her body, everyone could have believed her. He had also made a mistake by asking her to run after the fake goon. That would have made people agree that Harris forced her, because if he didn't, why would she risk his relief and run after the goon? That act had only made her look like a good Luna in the elder's eyes.
The reason Alina planned Harris's death was because she knew he would not only confess about her involvement with the theft but would give out all the evidence he had against her. It was from him that she learned that he never burned the evidence with Beta Steven's and Elder Peter's at that pit of fire, but he kept them with him and used them every time he got a chance to manipulate him. At the end of the evidence, Alian quickly got out of the bathtub, dried her body, and retreated back to her room to put on some clean clothes. With Beta Harris's demise, she was sure another beta would be appointed, and until then, she would go to his room and look for the pieces of evidence he had kept with him and burn them. "No one is going to get them before me." She thought, hurriedly putting on her tried-on pants and white cropped top.
"Where to?" Killan, who was sitting on the bedside table, reading something on his table, raised his head and asked the moment she made to walk out of the room.
"Uh, kitchen." She smiled and then grabbed her tummy. I don't know why, but I get hungry easily nowadays."
"We will have the food brought here to us. I am also hungry." Kilan responded while putting her tablet aside.
"I.."
"I what? You don't want I am not forcing you, Alina; if you want to have your food in the kitchen, then go ahead," he said, taking back his tablet.
"I am sorry," Alina apologized sweetly, rolled her eyes the moment she backed away, and hurriedly walked towards her destination. Sneaking in so that she wouldn't get caught, Alina closed the door behind her and started looking around. She threw the bed covers away but found nothing. She emptied everything from the wardrobe but found nothing. She even went ahead and peered under the bed, but she didn't find anything. After walking into the washroom, hoping to find that he may have stashed them somewhere in there, she realized that the shelves were full of female belongings. She walked back to the room and looked at the walk-in closet, and she was shocked to see it full of dresses and skirts. Even the pants in there looked feminine. And everything looked really expensive.
She made to run out of the room before she got caught, but the owner walked in before she could even make it to the door.
"You bitch!" The young woman, about twenty-two, yelled. "What are you doing in my room and..." she started looking around. "Oh my god! What have you done to my things? Why have you created all this mess?" The girl yelled at her. She matched her towards her, and before she could slap her like she had intended, the door was pushed open, and Alpha Killan walked in with a pink suitcase on his hands.
"Little sister, I..." He stopped. "What happened to your things, Kamilina?" He asked and bent down to the ground, picking up his little sister's belongings scattered all over the floor.
"It's this bitch over..."
"Language!" Alpha Killan warned against cutting her off.
"I am sorry, big brother, but this b.. I mean, this stupid woman over here created all this mess. You didn't tell me there were thieves in this pack. I only thought it was Gamma Harris, but who knew he would leave a female one behind?" The girl complained, pouting her pink, thin lips. Alpha Killan chuckled at that sight and rose to her feet after returning her covers to the bed and arranging them, arranging all her books on the shelf, and putting her clothes back in the closet.
"Which woman? Just tell me who did all this to my little sister, and I'll punish her because I don't tolerate thieves." He pulled her chubby cheeks playful. All that while, Alpha Killan thought her little sister was lying to him and that no one had made that mess in her room. He knew him better than he knew himself; his little sister was very lazy, and arranging her room has always been nothing but a very difficult task for her.
"This woman has big ugly eyes," she said, pulling the frozen Alina, who had been sitting behind them all this time, and pushing her towards her brother Killan.
"Alina?" Alpha Kilan called in shock. "I thought you were in the kitchen. I mean, that was where you were heading to." He asked, squinting his brows at her.
"Brother," Kamilina stood in between them, don't tell me you know this thief. Jail her already; who knows she must have stolen my things?" She demanded, crossing her hands under her breasts.
"She is my wife, my little one, and your Luna, so show her some respect." Killan told her.
"Respect? You are joking, brother, are you? She barged into my room, and after she saw no one was in here, she could have just sat out there and waited for me, but she chose to go through my things, even throwing them away. Respect, you say!" Kamilina spat, shaking her head in disbelief.
Sighing, Alpha Killan turned to the quiet Alina standing in front of him. "What are you doing in here, and why have you created a mess?"
"I came here to see if Beta Harris has left anything. Anything to help us track the goon down." She lied, biting her lower lip.
"Well, my sister took out his things and locked them at the store. This room now belongs to her because she'll be taking over the beta position." He told her.
"What of the gamma?" Alina asked, "I mean, the gamma steps up when anything happens to the beta, right?" She inquired.
"Not anymore." Kamilina responded, "Everyone working at this palace will be stripped down because they all seem suspicious to me. I'll be recruiting some new ones, which I have already done." She smirked, waving the piece of paper she was holding in front of Alina.
"That's not good at all. Did you think of them? They were obviously supporting their families with what they were getting here, so stripping them down will only hurt their loved ones." Alina objected to Kamilina's idea. All the people working at the palace were her people. They were the ones who cleaned up her mess or helped her do anything, and in return, she gave them any job they wanted at the palace so as to make them stay quiet, so stripping them down will only mean turning them against her.
"Kamilina, you are a beta, and I'll advise you to know your place. You just can't get in here and do what you want. You should have notified them at least so that they could look for jobs elsewhere before stripping them down. You could have informed me as your Luna or your alpha over here." She advised.
"I did that. I told my brother that I would like all staff to be changed, and he said yes. So, can we get over this conversation and get back to the important one? What were you looking for in here?" She inquired.
"Baby, this is a bad idea. You could have informed me first. How can you make the decision for the pack without telling me? Please ask this beta to hire them back." She demanded.
"Alina, it's not a big deal." Alpha Killan started but was cut off.
"Not a big deal? Are you kidding me?" she scoffed. "It is a big deal for me, Killan, so you better tell this lowly beta to hire them back. All of them." She yelled.
"And I say it's not." Alpha Killan snapped at her. "And for your information, she is not a lowly beta but my sister, so I won't hear a word against her," he warned. "Why are you taking this personal anyway? You are acting as if they are your people." He sighed while combing his hair with his fingers.
"She looks really suspicious, brother." Kamilina wiggled her brows at her brother, and then turning to Alina, she asked, "Do you know something we don't know? I mean, do they know something about you that we don't know? This staff you are fighting for?" She pursed her lips when Alina looked at her with confusion.
"Me? What? No, why would they know something about me? I am only trying to say that you should hire them back because...
Kamilina interrupted her, saying, "Brother, did you read the black file I brought to your office? I found it hidden under the mattress, and it's written important on top. I wanted to check it out but let go of the idea in case I ruined something that would have led us to that goon."
"Oh, why didn't you bring it to my room? I'll go and look at it right now." Alpha Killan said but when he was about to walk out of the room, Alina stopped her.
"Baby, you should help your sister get comfortable. I'll go and look at it; if there is anything important, I'll let you know." She suggested. Her main aim was to go and then replace everything in there because she was sure it was the file Beta Harris was holding against her.
No, Alina, you said you were hungry, right? Go to the kitchen and have something to eat. Don't forget that the doctor said that you shouldn't stress that much. Kamilina and I will go and check the file out, okay?" He asked, kissed her forehead, and, pulling Kamilina by her hands, they walked out of there.
"You better get out before you start throwing my clothes away because, like I said, I already have the file." Kamilina reminded her but Alina ignored her.
“Baby, I think I should be the one to check it out. I mean, I have always done this and looked over things like this." She insisted.
"Nay, I said I'd handle it, Alina. Don't worry, okay? Now run along and get your food." Kilan responded.
