Thirty Six
Alpha Killan walked to his office with his sister trailing behind him. Kamilina walked to the drawer where she had locked the file, and with a wide smile on her face, she handed it over to him. Here, brother, I wonder what is in there, but I hope it will help you get to the goon." She then slumped on the chair, crossed her legs over the table, and scrolled on her phone as she waited for her brother to tell her what was in there. Before Killan could read the first page, he received a call from the pack doctor, telling him that Alina had fallen ill once again.
"I'll be there in a second," he said, pulling back his suit coat and handing over the file back to Kamilina. Keep it safe. You may lock it back in the drawer you did because I have a hunch that with it, I'll get to find out something big." He kissed his sister's cheek and walked out of the office.
"Brother, what happened? You promised me dinner, remember?" Kamilina called back, swinging her legs off the table.
"I know that little one, but your sister-in-law fell sick, so I have to be with her." He responded without looking back at her. Rolling her eyes, Kamilina locked the file back into the drawer and walked back to her room, where she was planning to have a warm shower and a nap. After the shower, Kamilina put on some baggy grey pants and a white baggy shirt, and after wearing her white socks, she went under the covers, hoping that her brother would come and wake her up after dinner got ready. She kept on turning on the bed, and after she gave up the thought of sleeping, she sat up.
"Goddess, you know that I was very sleepy before I came in here, but what could have happened? Why can't I sleep? Maybe I should play games on my phone like I was doing earlier; that way, I'll feel drowsy." She thought and then lifted her pillow to take out her phone. She was shocked to find it was not there. Jumping off the bed, she wore her flipflops and walked back to the bathroom, but it wasn't there at all.
"Stupid me!" She slapped her forehead after she remembered where it was. "How can I leave my phone at my brother's office? I should go and take it." She spoke to herself, wore her outdoor shoes, and walked out. Humming happily, she skipped waving at the new group of staff she had just employed and asked them if they all felt better and were getting comfortable in their new rooms and work areas. After they all admitted that they were satisfied and okay, she skipped toward her destination, leaving a good impression behind. The new staff couldn't stop praising her. They all thought she was kind-hearted and valued everyone despite their financial status.
Kamilina gasped the moment she walked into her brother's office. It looked like no one had used it for a year or so. With files scattered all over the floor and the table and chairs broken, it was a complete mess. She screamed when she saw her phone lying on the ground, completely broken. Her scream attracted the guard at the door, who rushed in, wanting to know if everything was alright.
"Beta Kamilina, what happened?" The guard asked, staring at the mess on the ground. He looked at Kamilina's facial expression to see if she was angry or something, because they all knew she was a spoiled brat. Her brother, Killan, and her parents had always spoiled her, and whenever she gets angry, she throws everything away, not minding if it was something valuable or not. She always said that no matter what she broke, her brother could get it back in just a twinkle of an eye.
"Uh, should I call Alpha Killan for you, miss?" The guard asked, wanting to get out of there as soon as possible. Up until then, Kamilina hadn't told him what the problem was, so he concluded that she might be angry, and that's why she did all that. And if she was, then he wouldn't be spared at all. He had known Kamilina since he used to work for her father years ago, and he knew about her behavior pretty well.
"Yeah, but before that, did you see anyone getting in here or out?" She turned to ask him with confusion written all over her face.
No, miss, no one came in here, nor did I see anyone going out." The guard responded.
"What happened? Don't tell me this pack isn't only dominated by thieves but also ghosts." She rolled her eyes while biting her nails in deep thought.
"What do you mean, Miss Kamilina?" The guard asked, knitting his brows in confusion. He couldn't understand what Kamilina was saying at all.
"I mean, if you saw no one coming in or going out, then who created all this mess?" She asked, pointing at the files, broken glasses, and furniture scattered everywhere on the floor, leaving no place for stepping.
"It's not you, miss?" The guard asked
"What? No! I got over this. I don't break stuff or do this any more after I broke my brother's leg years ago." She denied it while shaking her head. When Killlan was fifteen and she was seven, she got angry after their parents grounded her during summer break. Angrily, she started breaking everything in her sight, and it was in that moment that she broke her brother's leg after she accidentally pushed the book shelf, which was to fall on her, but her brother jumped to shield her.
She got scared, and she ended up getting grounded for the rest of the coming holiday, and she swore never to do that again. Anytime she got angry and wanted to throw things away, the incident recurred in her head, and she found herself looking for a healthy and better way to cope with her anger.
"Besides, I go for a run, a really long walk, or to the gym when I get angry these days." She mumbled, roughing her hair.
"It's good to hear that little miss, but to be sincere, no one came in here or walked out. I have been sitting right outside this door since my shift began." The guard explained.
"And when did your shift start?" Kamilina interrogated him.
"Eight in the morning, Miss Kamilina." He responded.
"Well, I really don't know what to do. I better go and call my brother," she said, walking towards the west wing of the palace that would lead her to her brother's room. Barging without knocking, she held her nose in disgust and walked towards the bed, where her brother was sleeping peacefully with Alina by his side. Judging from the way the room was smelling and the scattered clothes on the floor, she assumed they must have had a passionate moment. Shaking her head, she walked to the closet, grabbed a clean pair of clothes for her brother, and woke him up.
"Wake up, you loser!" She slapped him hard on his ass, causing him to jump from the bed.
"What the.."
"Language!" She cut him short, wiggling her eyebrows at him.
"What is it, Kamilina? I want to sleep." He complained, wanting to get back to sleep, but she yanked the covers away, causing Alina to groan. They were both naked, and the shameless Kamilina laughed out loud instead of apologizing and walking out of there.
"Disgusting! Who sleeps with all that stickiness on their bodies?" She wrinkled her nose, faking a gag.
"Have manners, Kamilina!" Killan snapped in annoyance.
Manners, my foot!" She spat, Is it my fault you sleep naked? I mean, who does that?" She rolled her eyes. "You better get your flat ass off the bed and get to the office in two minutes, or else I'll tell everyone that their alpha sleeps naked. Just look at him, hiding his tiny manhood, which is something I have bathed all his childhood in." She walked out of the room, complaining.
"I am older than you. I am the one who bathed you!" Killan shouted back. Kamilina flicked her tongue at him, gesturing that he only had one minute left. Jumping off the bed, Killan walked to the bathroom for a quick shower, put on the clean pair of clothes Kamilina had already arranged for her, and rushed towards the office. If it had been anyone else, he couldn't have gone at all, but it was his sister. He could have also punished whoever would have barged into his room like that and flipped the cover off him. It was only one other person who had ever done that, apart from his little sister, and that was Camila. At the thought of Camila, he shook his head to get rid of her memories, wore his shoes, and walked out of the room.
"Where are you going, babe?" Alina asked while getting off the bed.
"To the office." He responded while busy tying his shoelaces without raising his head to look at her. Alina sighed, walked to him, and sat by his side.
"But baby, why don't you just stay here with him? I mean, what if the nightmare comes again? What will I do without you?" Alina asked with a sad voice, making puppy eyes.
"Alina," Killan sighed while removing her hands from his shoulder, my little one wants me at the office, so I shall go." He said this, rising from his seat and smoothing his clothes.
"So she matters more than I do?" Alina asked while also rising from her seat. "You never listened to anyone before but me. Why is it that you are now listening to her? And how could you let her go after doing all this to us?" She asked while pointing at their covers thrown on the floor. "She is childish, and you must tame her before she becomes something else!" She snapped and walked back to her bed, where she sat and started sobbing. It always worked on Killan if she shed a tear or smiled sweetly at him, and he would agree to whatever she said. Because her smile hadn't worked, she was forced to fake tears.
Kamilina had brought in new staff and only left the previous guards. What she had no idea was that one of the guards was her underdog. She faked being sick, and after Kilan went to stay with her, she seduced him, something he couldn't resist. Although at first he said he was busy and had no time for that, he finally gave in to his lust. After she made sure that Kamilina was also out of the office, he sent that guard to go in there and look for the file, but unfortunately, he didn't find it. The guard had sent her a text message asking her to buy more time and keep Killan with her because he was at his other office.
Pease, Alina, not again." Killan sighed while ruffing his hair. He was torn between two people: his little sister, who would make a mountain out of a mole if he didn't go to her like she wanted, and his wife, who was already crying. After thinking for a while, he went to sit on her side, pulling her into his arms. "You need not cry, Alina. You do know that I don't stay at the office for so long; just wait for me. My little one doesn't call me for no reason, and I am sure there is something going on, and that's why she called me." He assured her. His phone rang, and he excused himself to go and pick it up. While retreating back to their room, he saw Alina hiding herself in the closet, making a secret call.
Shaking his head in disbelief because that was the same person who was so sick and scared that she didn't want to be alone, he walked out silently, heading to the office. After Alina was down making her call, she grabbed a sweater, which she was planning to lie to Killan about being the one she had gone to pick up in there, but she was shocked not to find him there. "baby!" She called while walking around. She opened the back door and walked to the balcony, but he wasn't there at all. Stomping her feet in anger, she rushed back to their room to see if he was back, but he wasn't. Wearing her clothes in a hurry because, until then, she was still roaming around the room naked, she rushed out of the house and followed Killan to his office.
"So you are telling me you forgot your phone and, upon coming back, you found all this mess created here?" She heard Killan asking Kamilina from afar.
"Yes, brother, and I am so scared because Mr. Mike said he hasn't seen anyone coming in or going out of the office. Mr. Mike was the guard at the door who nodded in agreement. "Brother," Kamilina ran to grab her brother's hands, "do you think it's a ghost?" She asked.
"A ghost?" Kilan laughed for the first time in a long while, asking," Why would a ghost want to take from me, little one?"
"I don't know!" Kamilina shrugged, and after recalling something, she took out her broken phone from her pocket and rushed back to his brother, who was opening the drawer to see if the file was still there because they were all suspecting that the 'ghost' was looking for it. "See what the ghost has done, brother. How can I take selfies?" She pouted.
"Hey little one. No tears, okay?" Killan made her promise: "Go and tell my secretary to buy you the phone you want, okay?" Kamilina skipped out of the office but bumped into Alina at the door, who instead of coming in was eavesdropping. Pulling her inside with her hands, she stood in front of her brother. "Brother, do you think it's her? I mean, she created the same mess in my room. Yes, it must be her! What were you looking for, bitch?" Kamilina asked, with both hands akimbo.
"Me? Why would I look for the file?" She snarled.
"And how do you know it was the file the 'ghost' was looking for? I mean, no one has talked about the file yet." Kamilina shrugged, looking at her with suspicion.
"I.." She stammered, screaming about getting caught once again. It seemed like she hadn't learned her lesson yet.
