Fifty Two
Grandfather Putin started by looking over who had released the pack's secrets to their enemies, because according to the pack's statistics, that was when Killan started sinking. All their enemies were using his secrets against them, and there was nothing they could do. He reopened the investigation because, even though Alina was put behind bars, the file still read that it was Camila who had done that.
It was in that process that he was led back to the Alpha Cameroon mansion, where he paid a visit. Alpha Cameroon was shocked to see Grandfather Putin in his mansion because he had never interacted with him. The only person he had been interacting with was his grandson, Alpha Kilan, even though they had been enemies from the beginning. Grandfather Putin bumped into his son at the main gate when going to the garage to take his car.
Father, are you going back?" His son asked him.
"I am heading to Alpha Cameroon's mansion." He simply responded to his question while motioning for his driver to open the car door for him.
"You can send me. I'll take care of it, I promise." His son suggested it, but grandfather Putin shook his head in denial. "No, I think I should be the one to go. I know the hatred you and your son harbor towards Cameroon, so nothing will be done. It's high time we start solving our problems in peace rather than beating our chests in pride." He explained this to his son while putting his black glasses on. Before he could get in and sit down, his son called him again.
"Dad, do you think it's possible if you forgive Killan? I know what he did is something that cannot be pardoned, but can you at least give him another chance?" He spoke on behalf of his son. He, of all people, knew how much Kilan loved and cared for his grandfather. It was the hatred that he harbored for Camila that made him behave that way with her.
"I will never forgive your son until he reflects on his mistakes. And he shouldn't think that sending you to me will make me forgive him. I still stand on my ground." He said this while raising his head to look at the window on the second floor, where Killan was standing beside the window, looking down at him with hope brewing in his eyes. Because his grandfather had refused to talk to him or even see him, he thought it would be better if he sent his father instead.
"It's killing him, father. Just forgive him; he is your grandson anyway. Don't forget that you once did this." His son reminded him. Grandfather Putin took the black glasses off his eyes angrily and gripped the car door with all his might. His hands shook, causing him to lose his grip and stumble forward. Squeezing the glasses in his hands as if his life depended on them, he spun to his son and said, And that's why I didn't want him to repeat what I had once done. Doesn't he see that I am still paying for the sins I committed when I was still his age?"
"Father, calm down. I was just... His son gasped when he realized what he had brought back to the table. That conversation was like an abomination. Although it happened fifty years ago,it still pains Grandfather Putin just by thinking of it, and that was why he was that mad at his grandson. He had sat him down, even before he found his mate, and taught him the dangers of doubting his mate and trusting a mistress, but he never listened to him. It was like he had been speaking to the walls all that time he used to sit him down.
"Father, forgive me. I didn't know what I was thinking." His son apologized.
Grandfather Putin ignored him, got in his car, and instructed his driver to go to Alpha Cameroon's mansion. During the entire drive, he kept cussing and talking to himself. The driver couldn't even dare raise his head and look at him through the rearview mirror like he always does because he had seen that side of grandfather Putin once, and he wouldn't dare wish to experience it again. When he is angry, he is always like a coming tornado. You better stay away from it as soon as possible, or else you'll be buried alive!
"We are here, Alpha Putin," he told him as he cleared his throat when he pulled through Alpha Cameroon's palace gates. Even though grandfather Putin had retired many years ago and ventured into being a doctor, people still called him the alpha.
"Good, wait for me here. I'll be out in a while." He said this to his driver, who bowed down slightly and walked out to open the door for him. Putin's arrival at Alpha Cameroon's mansion almost brought everything to a standstill. Everyone knew how dangerous and ruthless he was. Much worse compared to his grandson Kilan. His arrival anywhere didn't bless anyone but rather rained curses at them.
His arrival always seemed like a downfall. The workers, who always stayed near the palace gates so as to get a glimpse of anyone coming in so they could spread gossip about them, this time didn't even dare to raise their heads and look at him. They had their heads bowed to their feet, and they lacked even a voice to greet him back when he said hi to them.
"Can I see Alpha Cameroon?" Putin asked the guard at the door, without whose permission no one could go in to see him.
"Were you supposed to meet? I mean, you both?" The guard asked even though his heart was thumping wildly, threatening to rip his ribs apart and jump into his throat. If it weren't that it was a must that he ask that of anyone coming in, he would have let Putin walk straight in even if he was carrying bombs and missiles.
"I didn't, but this is important." Putin said while talking off his glasses, directing his ice-cold gaze to the guard's brown eyes, which kept on darting from one corner of the room to the other in fear of locking gazes with him.
"Right away, Alpha Putin. He is currently in a meeting, but he'll be done in a second. Just go and sit over there." He directed him to the long black couch arranged not far from where they were standing. Putin nodded his thanks to the guard and walked straight to the couch, leaving the guards and servants looking at each other in confusion and fear. What has Alpha Cameroon done? They couldn't stop asking themselves this question. Putin didn't stay for long in the lobby because, like the guard had said, the meeting ended the very second he sat down on the couch.
The people who were in the office having a meeting with Alpha Cameroon started walking out one by one, all bickering in low voices. Just by the look of things, grandfather Putin figured out that they must have had a heated argument before the meeting was adjourned. One of the men, wearing a maroon suit, was the first to see Pution sitting on the leather couch, looking at them.
He quickly zipped his mouth and mouthed to his friends that there was someone behind them. Upon seeing him, they all rushed to him, bowed, and practically ran out of there, forgetting that they were having a heated conversation. Alpha Cameroon, who had asked them to go out and take some air before coming in again, was astonished when they only took a second to keep quiet.
He had given them an hour's break because he knew how much they loved bickering, but seeing that they had only taken a second, he straightened his suit and followed them. "Impossible, what made you all come down in just a second?" he asked while walking out, but he was met with an empty lobby. "Where have these freaks gone to?" He asked his guard, who used his tongue to point back to the lobby. Alpha Cameroon spun around to see where they were, but was shocked to see Putin instead.
"Ah, Alpha Putin, greetings. He bowed slightly at him and then used his handkerchief to wipe sweat that had come from nowhere from his forehead. "I haven't done anything to anger you, have I?" He then asked while sitting on the same couch as Putin but at the far end.
"You haven't done anything wrong, Alpha Cameroon, but your daughter has," he said while taking out a black file from his suitcase. He then threw it on the table in front of Cameroon, who took it and perused through it to see what he was talking about. His eyes widened in shock with each page he passed. He still couldn't believe if what he was reading was the truth or not. "She can't do this, can she?" He asked loud enough for Putin to hear.
"How do I know Alpha Cameroon? She is your daughter, and you are supposed to know her more than anyone else." Putin responded while swinging his left leg over the right one. He then leaned against the sofa and warned, "I am only here to tell you what she had done, and if she dared do that again, I will be left with no choice but to make you pay for her mistakes." Upon saying that, he stood, buttoned his suit, and walked out of there, leaving Cameroon still mumbling some words. The moment Alpha Putin disappeared behind the door, Alpha Camerron rose from the couch and matched him in the living room.
There, he found Larrisa sleeping on her mother's lap while watching their favorite television show.
"Dad, you are back already. How was the meeting?" She asked him with a sweet smile on her face, which Camerron couldn't pinpoint if was really real or fake.
"How could you?" He asked instead, glaring at her harshly, evident enough that he was not interested in her fake sweet demeanor.
"What are you talking about, dad? Did something happen?" Larrisa asked while looking at her mother as if looking for help. Her mother shrugged her shoulders in confusion while looking at her husband.
"Honey, did something happen at the office?" Karina asked her husband, who tore his gaze from his daughter and settled in on her.
"Of course something happened." He responded, "Alpha Putin also came." He told them
"Really, I guess it must be because of the Lycan. Have they found her? And what about Ash? Have they found him? Oh, God, I can't leave without him," Lakisha sniffed while faking some tears. Her mother walked closer to her, and when she was about to hug her daughter and comfort her, Alpha Cameroon stopped her.
"You don't need to take care of her. For how long will we be the victims of her lies?" He asked harshly, ignoring her daughter's confused gasp.
"What are you talking about, honey?" Karina asked him, She is your daughter, and she needs us now. Don't forget it was you who promised her to bring Ash back alive for her." She reminded him.
"I did promise, but I swear, even if I were to find him right, I will never bring that saint to this house. He deserves someone better, not a deceitful person like her who doesn't value him." He spat.
"Dad, how can you say this? Why are you calling me a deceitful person? Am I not your favorite anymore? I am sorry if I have done something to anger you, dad, but I promise I would never do something on purpose," Lakisha cried while hugging her mother, who was once again asked to stay away from her.
"What is going on here?" Karina was left with no choice but to ask. "Why are you treating your daughter this way? Has Putin said something about her?"
"Well, he did. In fact, he opened my eyes. All this while I have been trusting people blindly, but this broke my heart," he said, whacked the file on the table, and stomped out of the living room.
"What is this?" Karina and her daughter asked each other in unison. Karina was the first to get a hold of the file. Her face wrinkled in disbelief as she read it. She never even finished reading it. When she read midway, she couldn't even continue; she threw it on Lakisha's face and stormed out of there, leaving her daughter asking her what it was.
When her mother ignored her, Lakisha took the file and read it on her own. Just by looking at the first page, she knew the rest of the details contained there. She slumped back on the couch, hot tears streaming down her face.
"Oh, no. This is not possible," she mummered.
