Fifty Three
After being told what had happened at home, Lakisha packed her bags to go back. The only reason she fled home was because she had read the file her twin sister had hidden from the others. She knew how she was, and if she had chosen to stay at home, Larrisa would have thought that it was her who told their father about her secret.
"Mother and dad have known about that file," Larrisa said as she hugged her sister the moment she walked through the door. "I don't know what to do. I thought with Ash, not here, they would never come to know about all of this, but Alpha Putin... Jeez, what should I do, sister?" She asked while breaking the hug.
"The only thing you can do is reflect on your mistakes. You should at least accept whatever punishment you'll be given, but I did warn you, sister. Camila was already out of our lives, so why would you still go after her? In fact, you are lucky that Alpha Putin didn't take any recuperations against your actions because, trust me, things would have been much worse," Lakisha replied while leading her to the sofa, where she helped her sit down.
"Trust me, sister, I have already told my dad that I will take any punishment, but he should talk to me, but he has been avoiding me. It's like I don't leave anymore, and mom, I asked her to talk to dad on my behalf, but she has yet to tell me what is going on," she sighed, and after a heavy silence, she turned to her sister. "Oh, at least you can talk to dad on my behalf, please," she pleaded while holding her sister's hands. She could have knelt down as well if Lakisha hadn't stopped the moment she realized her intention.
"I will, sister, but I am not promising you anything. You should know that you have been dad's favorite since we were kids. Don't forget that he has always talked about letting you take over the alpha position after he retires because you have been the patient and well-mannered one between the two of us, or at least he thought so. You broke his heart, and that's why he's this mad. Maybe you should give him some time to clear his head because he needs to process all this. Besides, you said our mother was going to talk to him, so I suggest we wait until then. But I promise you, if mom fails to conceive him, I will do it, okay?" She brushed her sister's cheeks with her hand while rubbing them gently.
"Okay, but please, do talk to him as soon as possible. It's killing me. I feel like I disappointed him. I mean, I can see the disappointment in his eyes. I guess I was just obsessed with getting Camila out of my life, and that's why I forgot to draw a line in what was going on." She sighed.
"But I am confused, though," Lakisha said while shifting closer to her sister so that she could rest her head on her laps. "Dad would never be this angry with you because you are involved in releasing Alpha Kilan's secrets. They are soul enemies." She reminded her sister. They knew how much their dad despised Alpha Killan, and there was no way he would be angry with Larrisa for doing that. In fact, the normal dad they knew would have applauded for that.
"That's not why he is angry with me. You didn't read the whole file that day when you got it from under my bed," Larrisa said in a voice barely above a whisper.
"Then what is it? Is there something worse you have done?" Lakisha couldn't help but be curious. She raised her head from her sister's lap and faced her, waiting for her response.
"I was involved in Ash's accident. I mean, it wasn't an accident. I had sent that truck driver to murder him because I thought he would reveal my secrets to Dad. I was also involved in Alpha Kilan's accident as well," she explained.
"What? Why would you do that? I mean, Ash and Killan? What did these two do to you? Okay, right, Ash had read the file, but do you think he could have told Dad anything about you? He isn't that way. You should know by now that he only believes in karma and not snitching someone out. Let's forget about Ash. What did Alpha Kilan do to you?"
"He hasn't done anything to me, sister. I was just taking Alina's order. You should know that I had formed a really strong bond with Alina. She didn't like Camila because she believed she had taken the only man she had ever loved away from him, and I also believed the same. I mean, even though I was already married to Ash, he never showed any interest in me. While he slept, he mumbled Camila's name, and almost all night I always woke up to hear him moaning Camila's name. He drew her everywhere, and the one time I spiked his drink so that I could get him to have sex with me, he moaned her name. Can you imagine? I was so fed up, so when Alina suggested that we should get rid of her, I quickly jumped into that even without thinking about the consequences." She said.
"So, Alina contacted you? But all that you have just said doesn't explain why you attempted to murder Killan." Lakisha told her.
"Yeah, I know that. And yes, Alina never contacted me; it was I who did it, but at first she thought she was talking to our father." She responded to the sister's curiosity.
Lakisha squinted her brows in confusion, looking at her sister. She tilted her head sideways and then asked, "She thought you were our father? I mean, is she that stupid? Didn't she hear your feminine voice, or was it revenge towards Camila that disfigured her ears?" She chuckled.
"That's not it. I interfered with my laptop's speaker. I hired a computer expert who did everything for me. He made my laptop's speaker sound like my father's voice." She explained, causing Lakisha to gasp in shock.
"What? How did you come up with all this? I mean, damn, Larrisa. I never thought you would think like this." She shook her head in disbelief. "So, did you ever tell her that she had been conversing with you and not our father?" She then asked
"Yeah, I eventually told her when things started getting out of hand." She shrugged her shoulders.
"Things were getting out of hand. How?" Lakisha was not ready to stop asking her questions. Not until all her questions were answered.
"Do you remember the day Noah took you out to celebrate your third anniversary?" She asked her. Noah was Lakisha's mate, and they were already married.
Yeah, and he got me a Lamborghini." She smiled.
"Yeah, the same day, a few minutes after you had left, Alina came. She was in need of help because Alpha Kilan was a few steps away from finding out about her true self, so the only person she thought would help her was our father because, after all, she had been talking to him for so long. I mean, I gave her that impression. So when she got in, dad threatened to throw her out and call guard for her, but she refused to go, threatening that he would go back to her pack and tell Killan everything she had done to him with his help. Dad got confused because that was the first time he had seen her. Of course, he had heard about her being Killan's new Luna but had never seen her." She shruggled. Larrisa walked to the fridge, where she took a bottle of water and returned to her sister's side.
"Although she had threatened, Dad still stood his ground and said he would throw her out. When she came to the realization that dad wouldn't help her, she made him listen to all the conversations we had ever heard.
"And then, what happened?" Lakisha asked while taking the now-half-full bottle of water from her sister's hands to quench her thirst as well.
"Dad became alert to that, so he asked her to call that person at the very moment. I was in my room and had no idea what was going on, so when Alina called me, I answered. That was when dad's harsh voice sounded from the speaker, asking who was using his name to carry out his evil deeds. I became scared thinking dad would carry out an investigation, and that's why I decided to tell Alina who I was. I agreed to do anything she asked me to do as long as she didn't give Dad that contact." She sighed while taking a deep breath.
"Oh, so that explains why you wanted to murder Killan. Lakisha guessed after Larrisa was done narrating everything to her.
"Yeah, that was why I tried to kill him." She responded. Larrisa took a deep breath and told her sister something she had yet to tell her that she was sure had also fueled her dad's anger.
"I think what is fueling dad's anger is because he now knows the fake Alpha Cameroon was me. He has also found that I have been swindling the pack's resources to cover up my crimes as well. We are bankrupt, Lakisha, and that's because of me. I didn't even see that I had taken much from the pack's secrets back," she sniffed.
"We are bankrupt." Lakisha scoffed.
"I mean it, sister. We are now bankrupt." She said this while looking at Lakisha, so that she would realize how serious she was.
"You are not kidding? Jeez, what were you thinking? You.." She stopped midway, lacking a name to call her. "And you think dad will forgive you just like that? You know how much this pack means to him, yet you..." she chuckled bitterly.
"I know Lakisha, but what am I to do? The deed is already done," she shrugged.
"You know, Larrisa, the only thing I am trying to figure out is how much you needed to cover your mistakes and crimes. I mean, our pack was worth billions, but now we are bankrupt with not even a cent left at the bank. Oh God, no wonder people were looking at me in a weird manner when I said I was coming home. They must have asked themselves if Noah has rejected me because we are now bankrupt."
Turning to her sister, she told her," Trust me in this, sister; dad will never forgive you even in his next life." With that, she carried her suitcase upstairs to her room.
"Dad, are you okay?" Lakisha asked while walking into her father's office. After she was done arranging her clothes in her closet, she took a quick shower and went to see her father. "Here, I made your favorite tea." She then handed over a cup of tea to him when he raised his head to look at her.
"Thank sweetheart. When did you arrive? If you told me you were coming, I would have sent someone to come and pick you up," he said, standing and engulfing his daughter in a hug.
"I wasn't planning on coming home anyway. Mom called me last night and told me everything that has happened, so I thought I should fly here as soon as possible and stay with you guys." She smiled while sitting in the chair next to her father. "Take your tea before it gets cold," she then reminded her dad after she noticed him zoning out.
It has only been a day since he discovered Larrissa's true nature and that he was now bankrupt and had already aged! He looked older than his actual age with tangled hair, an unbottoned shirt, and untied shoelaces. The office was filled with crumbs of paper, and the table was untidy.
His eyes were bloodshot red with huge eyebags underneath them, and the way he was bended over the table, he looked really emaciated.
"I doubt if you have anything for hours. I'll go make something for you, but for now, do drink that tea while it's warm to make you feel better." She kissed her father's cheeks and excused herself. Walking into the kitchen, Lakisha washed her hands and braced herself to make something for her dad. She decided to settle on something simple, so she ended up making a bowl of porridge for him. Porridge wasn't food, but given that her father hadn't eaten for a day, his stomach would need something soft, or else he'd end up having a stomachache.
After she was done, she warmed up the porridge and made it to take it to her father, but her phone ringtone echoed, rooting her on the spot. Without checking the caller's ID, she swiped the answer button and greeted the person on the other end. That person didn't even respond to her greetings but said whatever they intended to and hung up.
She froze, lacking the energy to even form a word, and the way the bowl of porridge slipped off her hands and fell on the ground, thus breaking into pieces, went unnoticed by her. It was her mother's panicked voice that brought her back to reality, wanting to know if she was okay and asking how the bowl fell down.
