Chapter 009
"Look who we have here," the sarcastic voice said again, causing Camila to turn and face the person even though she had wanted to ignore her.
"What is it, Alina?" She asked in annoyance, no longer faking a smile or pretending that she was happy to see her. "I am not in the mood to argue with you today, please," she said, looking around in hope to see Alpha Killan approaching, but he was nowhere to be seen. "Dammit!" She cursed inwardly, knowing that she had to tolerate Alina, whether she liked it or not.
"I am not here to argue either. I am only trying to find out why you are here because if you have forgotten, you are in the hospital." Alina rolled her eyes, squeezing herself beside Camila even though she had made it clear that she didn't know why she was there.
"Thanks for your concern, Alina. Thank you very much, but as you can see, I am very much okay," she responded, and she decided to take out her phone and make herself busy.
"You know that's rude. As a Luna of this huge pack, you should know by now that it's rude to press on your phone when someone is talking to you," Alina started again after some time. By doing so, she had made it clear that she was there just to bother Camila, because if she had any other business, she could have gone away the moment Camila took out her phone.
"But you just said you are not here for me, so how am I being rude?" Camila scoffed.
"Aw! I didn't say I am not here for you; I only said that I am not here to argue or fight." She smiled shamelessly, taking out her phone as well.
"Well then," Camila sighed, turning to face her after making sure that her phone was safely shoved in her dress, "what can I help you with, Miss Alina, or in other words, what is it that you want to discuss with me?" She folded her hands under her breasts. Alina mirrored her by folding her hands as well and also turning to face her with a smile on her face. "I was nearby to meet a friend, and that was when I saw you coming out, and as a good friend, I rushed over here to see if you were okay. Who are we with, by the way?" She asked, looking around.
Camila scoffed at the 'friend' word but then sighed in relief when she saw Alpha Killan coming out of the hospital. She had never seen someone as shameless as Alina. Responding to Alina's question, she asked, "Who else if not my husband?" and then turning to the approaching Killan, she smiled sweetly and said, "Hubby, how is your friend doing? Is it that serious?"
"Not at all, love." Killan smiled back at her, causing Alina to clench her fists in anger. "He is not that serious. The doctor said that he would be out by tomorrow." He kissed her cheeks, intertwining her hands with his, and then turning to Alina, he exclaimed, "Oh! You are here? I am sorry I didn't see you," he apologized, nodding at her.
"It's okay. Having a lively wife by your side will eventually turn you blind," Alina smiled, although her heart was burning and all she wanted was to slap Camila hard on the face because that was the first time in her entire life that Alpha Killan had ignored her, and that was because of her. Even though he did apologize or nod at her in greetings, he turned to face Camila immediately, ignoring her completely. When her mate came, she accused him falsely so that she could be with Alpha Killan, but she never thought that his mate would come. If she had known, she could have never left the city, but she could have stayed there and made sure that she was married to Alpha Killan before that.
Alina saw Camila whispering something against Alpha Killan's ears, and she turned, ready to leave them alone, but Alpha Killan called her back, "What do you think, Alina? Coffee?" He asked. Not believing her ears, Alina rubbed her eyes, and after realizing she was not dreaming, she smiled, "Yes, of course. Just like the old times, yeah?" She raised her brow in askance. When she spotted Camila going towards the car all by herself, leaving Alpha Killan with her, she smiled brightly, thinking that maybe they had quarreled and that was why he was asking her for a date. Yes, she was invited for coffee, but she wasn't ready to see it that way. It was a date!
"Yeah. Like the old times," he smiled back to her, and like the gentleman he was, he went ahead to pull the car door open for her, and then he hopped on the driver's seat and rode them away. Alpha Killan took her to her favorite restaurant, and she couldn't stop grinning from ear to ear. After their cups were served, Alpha Killan cleared her throat. "Since you came, we haven't gotten the chance to talk, Alina." He started.
Alina rested her cup on the table and fondled her hands under her chin to listen. "Mmmh!" She urged him to continue with a bright smile, lightening up her face. Maybe he is telling me that Camila isn't compatible with him and that he wants to break up with her and be with me. That was her thought when Alpha Kilan said they had to talk.
"You know about Camila and I. I mean, she's my mate, and I know that before you left, we had been dating, and I haven't broken up with you yet. Alina," he sighed, holding her hands. "You are the most beautiful girl I have ever seen, and I know that you are really good, and anyone would want to have you by their side for the rest of their lives, but that person was never me," he said. Not expecting the conversation to go that way, Alina pulled her hands away from his and gasped. "You are not breaking up with me, are you?"
"That is the only thing I can do, Alina. You know that Camila is my mate and love; there is no way I can still keep this relationship with you," he sighed. He had known ever since that it would be hard to end things with Alina. She has always been an overeactor, and if things didn't go the way she wanted, she changed from the sweet angel she pretends to be to a demon.
"I don't care, Killan," she half yelled, "you promised to marry me, remember?" She reminded me, already faking a sob.
"Yeah, I remember that, Alina, but I also recall telling you that I'd do so if my mate was never to come, and you yourself told me that when she comes, you'll be ready to break whatever we had between us," he reminded her. Alina, who was caught in her own words, bit her lower lip and agreed, "Yes, I said that, but I no longer stand with that. I said that when I was never in love with you, but now I am, so please don't break up with me. Listen, I know it was Camila who forced you to do this, right? I saw her whispering something in your ears before you asked me out for coffee. You don't want this, right?" She asked, motioning to sit on the empty chair beside him.
"No Alina. This is my decision." He stressed her, causing Alina to break into a thousand pieces. "And Alina, please stop lying. I know that you don't love me, but you only want to be with me because of money and power." With that, he stood up from the chair, straightened his suit, and left the coffee shop. All his life, ladies had always been with him because of his money and power, but nothing else. He had lost count of the number of times he had fallen deeply in love with women, but they all ended up breaking him. The first thing they would always do when they got together was ask him for money or help in establishing their own companies, which they ended up embezzling, and he would do anything they wanted, thinking that they would one day love him, but no, he was always mistaken.
When he met Alina, he thought she would be different, but he was mistaken. She was exactly like the others. It was his grandfather who told him she was with him for money, just like the rest, but he never believed it because he had spent most of his days with Alina since he was young. But when he overheard her telling the guy she was cheating on him with, he was broken, but he never had the guts to break up with her. What hurt him most was that the guy was his best friend and beta, but he had yet to tell him anything. He had accepted that as his fate. Ladies only date him for money so that they can invest in their real boyfriends, but that was until she met Camila.
She was never interested in his money or power. The day she had arrived at the palace, although everything had been kept for her, he gave her a master card in case she would want to buy anything because he thought all ladies liked shopping, but it had been almost a month and the card was still untouched. Camila was the most simple, down-to-earth lady he had ever seen. Anything given to her was just enough, and she never asked for more. Even when they were interrogated by a certain television show and she was asked what she would do if they woke up and found that he had lost everything, she responded by saying that she was not there because of money or power but because of him.
She had even joked that if he were to lose everything one day, he should make sure that he doesn't lose himself because that is all she wants.
On the other side, after Camila reached home, she was shocked to find the person she had been waiting for since her father took her to Midnightmoon Pack waiting for her. Not believing what she was seeing in front of her, she screamed and twirled around, covering her eyes. "Ash!" she called out, squating on the ground. Ash chuckled and walked closer for her to know that she wasn't dreaming at all, but he was there. That day, when Cameroon found his letter to Camila asking her to run once her wolf came, he was taken to prison for talking to her even though he had been warned not to. It was a month later that he was released, and when he went back home, he was shocked to find out that Camila had been sold to Alpha Killan, the most ruthless alpha ever.
He was worried sick, and he had been hatching a plan to rescue her from Alpha Killan's hands, but after his mother told her that the table had turned because she was now Alpha Killan's mate and that he had been taking care of her well enough, that was when he breathed in relief and decided to pay her a visit. "Is that really you?" Camila asked, raising her face from the ground with a bright smile covering her face. "I was worried sick; where have you been?" She ran to him. Apparently, Ash ran towards her as well, and when they reached each other, he carried her and twirled her around in there, both shading tears of happiness.
"Congratulations!" Ash finally put her down when she started complaining that she was feeling dizzy. He then hugged her once again, kissing her multiple times on her hair, forehead, and cheeks. "Come on, that's enough." Camila pushed him away, intertwining their fingers together. "Where have you been?" She asked him again because he had yet to respond to her question.
"Well, after your dad found that letter, he made my dad prison me for a month or he loses his job. Being left with no choice, I decided to go because it was for a month anyway," he explained.
"What?" Camila asked, pulling him under the nearby tree so that they could sit down.
"How could he? I am so sorry that it's because of me that you had to be taken to prison at such a young age," she apologized, rubbing her hands on his.
"It's okay, Mila. I am now back, and that's enough, and he won't mess up with you ever again given your new status," he winked, pulling her into another hug. Both of them had no idea that Alpha Killan had long arrived and was still standing at the garage, staring at them with jealousy.
"What is going on here?" He asked, causing both of them to jump in fright.
