The Dragon
As I break free from the mental prison I feel my essence snap back into our body. I wiggle my extremities assessing the motions. I have never had to control Magma without her here to do the movements herself. It shouldn’t be too hard.
I rise from the boulder I lay on and look around at the scene before me. The pyre I lay on is completely consumed with flames. My dragon brethren and sisters carry more sticks to the flames. Some of them pause when they see that I am now awake. I begin a slow inhale and start to pull in the rest of the flames that surround me.
The power enters my body swiftly and I shudder closing my eyes at how powerful I feel.
Even in Magma’s body the power courses through my veins causing it to glow. I look at our exposed skin and see that the color is red much like the scales on my dragon form.
“Magma is everything all right” Maximus ask as he begins to approach.
I lift the hand of Magma’s body and form a wall of flames in his path. If he comes near me I know that he will try to stop me. I change the wall and have it surround him instead. I warp the power of the wall and block his body’s ability to move through space. I laugh as he tries and fails to use his power.
“What have you done? Release me at once” he screams.
I slide off of the tone and leisurely walk toward his dome of fire as I ward the others away with just a look. I hope that the knowing I can stop their security will be enough enticement for them to leave me be. I speak to Maximus as I approach his enclosure.
“Dear brother. You have helped me more than you know. I have the power now to do what needs to be done. I just can’t have you getting in the way of my goals. When I am too far for you to stop me you will be released. I say as I go past him.
I run past the perimeter of the pyre and take off into the trees. It would only be a matter of time before his dragon is able to guide him out of my trap. As I approach the landing pad I close Magma’s eyes and imagine it as my form. When I open the eyes it is to realization that nothing has happened. I close the eyes to try once more and instead of transforming I hear Magma’s laugh come through muffled from her mind.
Somehow the weak human has me blocked and is preventing me from changing into my true form. Never the matter of that. I can still do what needs to be done in this body. I turn from the landing pad and quickly travel down the steps toward the front gate. I should be able to find the scent of my mate from there. And once I do, god help anyone who tries to get in my way.
