Michael POV- The Blood
“Give it to me. Give me the vial!” I command Ed as I hold out my hand. He gestures for me to go to the kitchen as he looks toward the stair where my wife is with my son. I roll my eyes after I follow after him.
“I know what you are attempting friend and it will not work. The blood of your son does have a glow to it, you are correct. But this is not the consistency of the blood you need. If you were to inject yourself with this I do not know the consequences.” He says holding the vial away from my reach.
“Explain now and do it before I lose patience” I command him.
“First remember who it is you talk to. I am the speaker for my employer when he is not here. You do not command me or order me around. Second, This is only a bit of a dragons essences in this vial. The blood you need shines like alight has hit and sparkles like blinding glitter.” He explains as he holds the vial in the light. “This blood tells me that your son has not fully bonded with the female dragon. He has yet to take her bite, so his blood does not yet possess the healing properties” he tells me.
My weary shoulders sag at the information. I have been searching for this so called magical cure for months. I only have a few months left and after all the money I have spent, this is as close as we have come. I am not ready to die and must do everything in my power to stay alive. “Tell me what our next step is” I question him.
“Before I answer that I need to have a brief chat with my employer. He will know best how to proceed because he has dealt with beast many times before.” He says as he walks toward the front door. “Wait here for a few moments.”
The last time he talked to his employer for “a few moments,” I was waiting on his return for nearly an hour. I decide to pull out my laptop while wait and add more into the notes I have been keeping.
Entry# 247
We were able to successfully remove my son from the clutches of those creatures. Our expectation have been confirmed and my son has begun to bond with the beast and obtain its power. His blood has begun to glow but not as bright as it needs too. The effects from the dose of blood I got from a few months ago are starting to wane. The pain level has risen from none days after injection to nearly a level five now. Our employer is being notified on the condition of my son and I will await further instruction. I have still yet to meet this mysterious employer, but his advice has been helpful in our endeavors to find a cure. Further testing on the condition of my son should bring new answers.
As I finish typing my entry, Ed comes waltzing back into the room with a grave expression. The last time he wore such an expression it was to tell me the dragon we had captured killed itself in transport and I would have to wait longer to be cured. I truly hope that news isn’t that grave because I have so few options left. “Go on and spit it out. What did your employer say”
“Our employer. Well, he would like to have your son brought to our lab so that we can further examine the properties his blood possesses. I told him of your sons condition with the fever, and this is the part that I thought might upset you. He doesn’t have a way to get his fever down completely. He says that without going back to the dragon woman there is no way to cure him. We would have just enough time during transport to drain you son completely of blood and that we could then perform an autopsy.”
Autopsy? “So this would mean that no matter what we do, my son will die?” I question him.
“Yes, if he stays here he dies. If he comes with us he dies? During transport he would definitely die. The only way to get the information that we need is to draw all of it during transport” Edwin says by way of explanation.
“Fine, get what you need here, we can start transport as soon as you are ready” I say. The thought of my son dying fills me with a bit of sadness. However, Edwin knows more than I do about the effect this species causes on our kind. If he is going to die anyway, he might as well die doing something useful.
“Would you like to take a moment alone with him and your wife while we get things ready” he ask as he begins typing into his phone.
“No, I’m fine. I will convince my wife that only one of us can go in transport. Once we reach your facility I will tell her that he didn’t make it. You will have to complete your test as soon as you can so that she can bury the body” I command him.
“Very well then” He says as he walks out the door. I take a seat on the couch, so I think. I hope that my son’s death will finally give me the answers I need to save my own life. Afterall, once I get back I am going to have to deal with Ivette’s grief from losing our only child. Having to deal with that alone better bring superior results.
