Chapter 10: Escape death narrowly
Among the dead, Regina did not see Darryl. But she also didn't have time to think about it because at the gate of the mansion, there was a guy wearing a black bulletproof vest standing nearby. His thigh was injured so he could only sit still. Luckily he hadn't discovered Regina yet.
Seeing that the exit was blocked by that person, Regina had to find her way to the garden behind the mansion. There was bound to be a small gate here, Regina hoped no one was there.
The moon is especially bright tonight. The crescent moon clearly creates a sharp beauty, the light is not so meek. It was a cold night, Regina was like a princess in a white dress, running away from the bloody castle in fear.
Her bare feet stomped on the sharp rock, they cut her feet and hurt her, but she didn't stop. She saw a small gate in the corner of the garden, not far from her. At this moment, a bullet that tore through the air rushed towards her and hit the stone at her feet.
Regina let out a panicked scream, clutching her head, and fell forward.
The man who had broken into Darryl's mansion was hobbling toward her, the muzzle of his silencer still smoking from the newly fired bullet. For the first time, Regina experienced what it was like to have an excruciating mental breakdown. She could see him like a god of death walking in the dark, coming to take her life.
Regina scrambled toward the grass when she saw him raise his gun again. Thanks to her supple and flexible body, she rolled several times on the ground and dodged one of his bullets. Her head hit an iron cage, causing her eyes to glaze over. She was wondering why there was such a big iron cage here when a growl sounded.
A huge horned wolf was standing facing Regina, one of its eyes was one-eyed, the other was a strange yellow color. It bared its teeth as if looking at its enemy. The hair on its body stood up, the drool oozed out, and the growl grew louder.
Regina was really desperate, she stiffened, sitting still unable to move. Unexpectedly, her death was not due to a bullet hit, but was bitten by a wolf. Regina painfully closed her eyes, waiting for the pain to come.
But a gust of wind blew to her left, and a few locks of her hair were blown away by the wolf's unbelievably fast movement. It did not bite her, but rushed towards the man holding the gun. Bullets were fired consecutively towards the wolf, but it all managed to dodge. Although its body is huge, its speed is very fast and its movement is extremely flexible.
In a moment of distraction, the man was bitten in the neck by a wolf. He only managed to let out a pitiful cry and then stopped breathing. His neck was broken and his original form was no longer visible.
Regina saw such a barbaric scene and was so scared that she almost fainted. Honestly, now she really wanted to pass out, so she wouldn't have to live in this feeling of fear and despair anymore.
The wolf, after defeating its 'enemy', arrogantly howled with a long voice. Its whole mouth was stained with the man's blood, it licked it a little, it seemed very excited. Then, one of its golden eyes looked at Regina. It slowly moved towards her.
Regina should have been scared and panicked. But she wasn't as worried as she thought. Perhaps it was because she sensed that there was no malice in that wolf's gaze. It approached her, sniffing her body with its nose like it was searching for something.
"Titus."
Darryl appeared out of nowhere without her knowing. He called out the wolf's name, then it ran happily towards him. He grinned and patted the wolf's head.
"Good boy. He's your reward. You don't need to be a vegetarian today."
Darryl jerked his chin towards the dead man, and as if Titus understood what Darryl meant, he bared his teeth and rushed over to the man and took his body away.
Regina was still sitting on the ground, seemingly unable to recover from what had just happened. Darryl's clothes were covered in blood, and his expression was still somewhat barbaric and cold. He knelt on one knee in front of Regina, wiping the tear from her cheek with his rough, bloody hand.
"I told you to obediently wait for me. Why don't you listen?"
Darryl's voice contained anger, he was blaming her for disobeying him. His eyes looked at her sharp, then he grabbed her chin tightly.
"Talk."
Regina was frightened by Darryl's shout, her whole body trembled, tears involuntarily falling down. She burst into tears, feeling extremely frustrated when she was scolded like that. Not knowing where to find the courage, Regina lunged at him, punching him in the chest, and sobbed as she explained.
"I thought you were dead. You told me to wait, but didn't say how long. I waited for a long time, someone even tried to break the bedroom door. I'm scared to death, tell me, what should I do? Do I have to wait until someone comes to me and kills me?"
Darryl froze. Based on his knowledge of Regina Lynne, she is a relatively timid and shy girl who is quiet and usually doesn't show too much emotion. However, the events of the evening had obviously frightened her to the point of her mind flying, to the point where she didn't even notice and punched him in the chest to relieve her fear.
For Darryl, being suddenly ambushed by enemies and trying to kill them is nothing new. He admits that he was a bit subjective when he assumed the mansion's advanced security system would stop them. But did not expect them to have good hackers, so the rare incident happened tonight.
After punching and kicking, Regina gasped and looked up at Darryl in surprise. Only then did she realize how stupid she had just done. Did she have the guts to punch Darryl Rider in the chest?
“I… I…” Regina stammered not knowing how to explain her actions just now.
Suddenly, Darryl reached out and clasped her body to his lap.
"It's okay. You're safe. There's no need to be afraid."
Darryl comforts a woman for the first time, he finds it a bit awkward. However, feeling Regina's tense body relax gradually, Darryl finally felt that comforting and reassuring a woman was also helpful. He let her lean against his chest, one hand clutching her shoulder, the other stroking her messy hair.
A small and weak woman like Regina dared to run away from the mansion without a sound, even confronting a professional assassin directly without dying. Darryl felt it was magical. Naturally, she survived thanks to Titus saving her, but there's no denying that she was indeed brave.
Darryl felt he had a different view of Regina.
After a while, perhaps exhausted, Regina fell asleep in Darryl's lap without both of them realizing it. He gently picked up Regina and returned to the mansion. Titus was sitting in a corner enjoying his 'late supper', the sly wolf glanced after Darryl and casually continued to chew on the meat.
