Chapter 12: Unfair treatment
Before leaving the house, Regina told the maid that she had a show scheduled and would be back in the evening. She did not have Darryl's phone number, so she could only use this way to let Darryl know the reason she left the mansion.
"Miss, let me call the driver for you."
"No need, my manager is already waiting outside the gate."
Regina quickly left. She wore jeans and a comfortable white t-shirt, a pair of sneakers, and then quickly got into Myrna's car. The concert was only an hour away, so we barely had much time to prepare. The concert's assistant director made several calls to Myrna to confirm if Regina would eventually show up or if they would replace her with another singer. It took Myrna a lot of work begging the assistant to keep Regina's gig.
"Fuck, that assistant guy is so bossy. He's like an angry madman. We weren't late on purpose, were we?"
Myrna was driving and honking loudly, every time I thought about having to fake laughter and beg those assistants, Myrna got annoyed.
Regina smiled and looked at Myrna, Myrna's personality was short-tempered, but because of her career as a manager, she had to humble herself often. Myrna couldn't take her anger out on others, so she could only helplessly whine.
"Where's my costume? Oh, by the way, did you bring me any makeup?" Regina asked Myrna.
"Yes, it's all in the back seat of the car." Myrna pointed me to the back. "There's no need to rush, there's a changing room at the concert."
"We'll be late to change until we get there. Aren't they urging us to hurry up there?" Regina took the makeup bag that Myrna had brought and took out some useful items. "Sister, can I borrow a mirror?"
"Yeah, it's in my bag." Myrna answered, then she glanced over at me. "Wow, Regina, if you don't become a singer in the future, you can think of becoming a make-up artist."
At Myrna's exclamation, Regina laughed. Regina has to regularly make up every time she performs, but because she is just a new singer, she does not have a lot of fame, so she does not have her own makeup team. In addition, it costs a lot of money to hire someone to do the makeup for every concert, and Regina doesn't get the full monthly allowance from her parents like Roxana. So, Regina decided to teach herself makeup.
"Before make-up and after make-up, you're like two different people." Myrna glanced at Regina from time to time.
"You mean I went from ugly duckling to swan?"
"God, you don't even know how beautiful you are? I mean, before you put on make-up, you look gentle and holy. After that, you look like a classy and haughty girl. "
"Tch, is that right?" Regina examined herself in the hand mirror. "Sister, when I become famous, I will definitely ask the company to increase your salary. After that, we won't have to bow to the directors or assistant directors or whatever. They'll have to come find us and beg me to sing in their concert."
"It must be like that." Myrna laughed heartily upon hearing my confident declaration.
We went to the concert with a happy and relaxed mood, but unfortunately that didn't last long.
I had just hurriedly finished changing when I saw Myrna and the assistant director of the concert arguing loudly.
"What do you mean? We've already agreed that Regina's repertoire has been approved." Myrna frowned, propped herself on her hips, and spoke loudly.
"I know. But I can't help you. With limited time at the concert, the director has decided to put a more famous female singer in Regina Lynne's place." The assistant director sighed.
"Isn't that too much? My singer has already changed into her performance outfit, we've already prepared everything. How could..." Myrna was really upset and felt uncommitted.
"Generally speaking, accept it or not, I don't care." The other assistant was busy talking on the radio and stopped arguing with Myrna. After interrupting her, he waved his hand as a gesture to Myrna to leave and stop bothering him.
"Hey, if you don't speak clearly, don't try to leave like that. That's no different from you guys trying to bully us. If you don't work with such a reputation, I will sue."
Myrna still wanted to continue arguing with the assistant but he left. Regina hurriedly ran over and held Myrna's arm to prevent her from continuing to riot.
"Don't stop me." Myrna tried to yank her hand away from Regina but couldn't.
"Sister, no matter how much you try to convince him, it won't change this." Regina gently advised Myrna, finally calming her down.
"Regina, I'm sorry. It's because I'm useless."
Myrna collapsed to the ground and blamed herself. This is not the first time they have been treated unfairly. At the company, Regina was never a respected singer. All the best music projects are for Roxana, only a few performances at music fairs or festivals are Regina getting the chance to participate.
Both Regina and Myrna understood why Roxana was biased. Her father, Joshua, has a stake in the entertainment company that currently manages her and Roxana, so it's not surprising that Roxana received huge media coverage and quickly gained popularity. Meanwhile, Regina struggled for four years as an unknown singer.
That is also the reason why they are rarely treated fairly. Even the management company neglected Regina's musical activities, the director or assistant at music concerts of course did not care about her. If it weren't for Myrna's perseverance and determination over the years, Regina would not have had the opportunity to stand on stage and perform.
"Obviously you have such a beautiful voice and good looks. But we're still out of luck." Myrna said dejectedly.
"It's okay, if you're not lucky this time, we'll try again next time. You'll definitely be famous one day."
Regina was not sad because of this small thing, she helped Myrna up and together they packed up to prepare to leave. Regina's gaze briefly glanced at the stage, a little moved, so she pursed her lips, and in the end, she didn't say anything but quietly packed up her things. If she said Regina wasn't disappointed, she'd be lying. But she was used to being treated so unfairly, and also understood that the more she resisted, the worse the outcome. That led to Regina's silent acceptance.
She neither complains nor gets angry, because she believes that eventually things will get better at some point.
"Oh, Regina? Are you here to perform too? What a coincidence." Roxana, wearing a beautiful and seductive red dress, casually walked into Regina's dressing room with a beautiful smile on her face.
"Um." Regina was slightly annoyed by her sister's appearance but endured it silently.
