Chapter 33: Sullivan's surprise tactic
Reluctantly, Darryl had to continue to randomly choose another beauty to participate in this race. It was the girl who was saved by Regina from the mansion of the mafia boss Harding. After being saved by Regina, she was taken to the hospital for treatment and currently works at a bar owned by Darryl Rider. Her life is better than before, today she and some famous beauties in the city are invited to this race.
Regina saw Darryl and that girl get into the car, and somehow felt a little uncomfortable in her heart, the eyes of that girl looking at Darryl showed adoration and admiration. After seeing them all in the car, Regina turned and walked over to Sullivan.
Regina sat in the car with Sullivan feeling extremely suffocated and secretive, at least she would rather sit with Darryl. Seeing that Regina was about to fasten her seat belt, Sullivan stopped her.
"Beauty, when you sit with me, you don't need to be afraid. You won't die."
Sullivan's raspy laugh made Regina shiver, her back drenched in sweat despite sitting in an air-conditioned car.
"Why did you choose me?"
"Why? Because I like that. Haha."
Sullivan grinned, then he started the race car. Hearing the howl of a car engine, Regina tensed, her whole body tensed.
Sullivan drove so recklessly, he even opened the window and put on a provocative face as he passed Darryl's car. In this second match, Sullivan and Darryl's race cars continuously took turns leading, but for some reason Darryl wanted to take the lead but hesitated to pass. In dangerous races, Sullivan still did not hesitate and accelerated, fighting back in a dangerous way.
Many times Regina leaned over, her whole body hit the door of the car, causing her shoulder to hurt. Her mind was spinning, the feeling of nausea caused Regina to repeatedly press her chest with her hands, which inadvertently made her even more difficult to breathe. Her eyes widened, even though she stopped herself from shouting, the fear still made her shiver uncontrollably.
About 500 meters to the end, Darryl was a little ahead, so Sullivan hit the gas and sped up in front of Darryl's car. The two cars almost collided with each other if one of the cars refused to stop at the small bend, there would certainly be a dangerous collision. As soon as the two ends of the cars were close to each other near the finish line, Darryl's red car suddenly braked, taking that opportunity, Sullivan reached the finish line first.
He got out of the car and smiled arrogantly.
"Haha, this is my true strength. How do you feel?"
Darryl then also got out of the car, his expression really not good at all, at Sullivan's provocation, Darryl frowned.
"Oh my god, it's heart-pounding and stimulating. We almost won." The beautiful girl puffed her chest and breathed, her cheeks flushed with excitement, but her expression seemed to be very scared. She was really curious as to why Darryl had stopped so suddenly just before the finish line, because for such an eager and reckless person as him, there was no reason to give up on the near victory.
"Shut up." Darryl angrily let out a sentence to the surprise of the girl who had just been in the car with him. She saw Darryl's indignant expression and stood back in fear, not daring to utter another word.
While everyone was surprised and did not dare to believe that the victory belonged to Sullivan, Darryl walked up to him. In a split second, Darryl delivered a punch to Sullivan's cheek. This punch was both fast and powerful, causing Sullivan's whole body to shake and fall to the ground. Sullivan's nose was broken and blood spurted out of his mouth. Although he is the son of a long-standing notorious mafia boss, and currently leads the Harding mafia, he can't stand a punch from Darryl.
Darryl was once a powerful boxer, and Sullivan was just a young man surrounded by his father. The fact that Darryl defeated Sullivan so quickly made Sullivan extremely humiliated and embarrassed, he even forgot the joy of racing to win Darryl.
"Fuck, are you crazy?" Sullivan scrambled to his feet, covering his mouth and nose with his hand to stop the bleeding.
"Do you still have the strength to speak? Want me to pluck some of your teeth?" Darryl glanced at Sullivan, the disdain in his eyes undisguised.
Sullivan was speechless. Because of his arrogance, he might have forgotten how dangerous the man standing in front of him, Darryl Rider, was. It was Darryl who killed his great father!
In the end, Sullivan quickly left there to treat his injuries and prepare for the final race.
Regina was sitting in the corner of the street, completely oblivious to what had happened. After Sullivan's car stopped, she immediately opened the door and jumped out, sitting on the side of the road and vomiting.
She hadn't eaten anything tonight so she could barely throw up anything, but her stomach was still churning, feeling sluggish and exhausted all over.
Suddenly, her whole body was lifted up.
Then, Darryl put her in his car, got mineral water for her to rinse her mouth.
"Dizzy?"
Darryl frowned at Regina's pale face. This is one of the few times that Darryl feels truly remorseful. He shouldn't have been too careful to follow the rules of the car race, leaving Regina in Sullivan's car. Sullivan's purpose was clear, he did it intentionally to provoke him, and he also wanted to see if Darryl would choose to protect his wife's safety or win the victory defiantly as he did.
"This is bad." Darryl sighed as he saw Regina's bewildered expression.
Darryl got down on one knee, outside the car, and wiped the corner of Regina's mouth with a tissue. By now, perhaps some people had noticed how special he treated Regina. No matter how hard he tried to hide it and be indifferent to her, even deliberately sitting in the car with other women to distract everyone's thoughts, this matter eventually came out. Between victory and Regina, he chose her without hesitation.
Perhaps from now on, he needs to pay more attention to her safety.
"I'm better now." Regina leaned back in her chair and let out a breath. After resting for a while, she regained her strength. "Why did you stop suddenly just now, are you afraid of an accident?"
"Yes, because then the occupants of the car are more likely to be injured than the driver." Darryl frankly admitted.
He thought that when he said that, Regina would understand that he was doing it out of concern for her safety, but he didn't know that Regina had other thoughts. She assumed he was referring to the beautiful girl in the car with him earlier, which caused her mood to drop.
Seeing her eyes dark and sullen, Darryl didn't feel comfortable either, he guessed that Regina's previous hatred and disgust for him was still there. It is understandable that he himself has caused so much pain to her, it is really difficult for her to forgive him.
"Aren't you going to do the third lap? We should go back to the starting line." Regina didn't want to continue talking to Darryl about the previous topic so she changed the topic. "Wait, what about her? We need to bring her back too."
Regina saw Darryl start the engine to run away while the beautiful girl was still standing helplessly on the side of the mountain. It is now dark, although the organizers have a signal light for the racing car, a beautiful girl standing alone in this wilderness is also very dangerous. Now the other racing cars have all left, only Darryl's car is left.
"She has her own legs, she can get back to the starting line by herself." Darryl said coldly. He didn't like that fake woman, being in the car with her was enough to make him uncomfortable. Moreover, he also knows that the organizers have a rescue team, just give them a call and they will come to pick her up right away.
"No, it's too dangerous to leave her alone." Regina firmly grabbed Darryl's hand. In addition to Regina's concern for the other girl's safety, there was another reason why she was so determined, because she felt uncomfortable when it was only her and Darryl in the same car.
It was clear that Darryl had feelings for that woman, and he wholeheartedly protected her, even giving up the victory of such an honorable race. It was only because Regina was Darryl's wife that she was allowed to drive back by Darryl, which she felt was not honorable at all. After all, she was just a wife in name and did not receive any love from her husband, so it was better if she cooperated for Darryl and the other beautiful girl to be together.
Well, he'll probably appreciate it. Regina thought so.
Darryl saw Regina's resolute attitude, so he did as she said and let the other girl sit in the back seat of the car.
"I haven't had a chance to know your name since the last time we met, you are..." Regina friendlyly started a conversation with the beautiful girl.
"I'm Dulcie." Dulcie smiled sweetly and replied.
Since Regina had been Dulcie's life-saving benefactor, they had a lot to talk about. After learning that Dulcie's life has gotten better thanks to her job at Darryl's bar and having his protection, Regina secretly feels lucky for her. But at the same time, her heart couldn't help but ache a little. Regina didn't know why this feeling was there, but she didn't pay much attention to it and just ignored it.
