The Memory
Clary’s POV
That night, with the fatigue and exhaustion from the training, I immediately fell asleep as soon as I lay down in my bed.
When I opened my eyes, I saw the same mansion that I dreamt of before. I looked around to see if there was someone inside. It is still the same. Being aware of some of its interior, I rapidly entered the same room where I found a woman with wavy white hair before. I found her in the same position on the balcony.
This time, I was able to see her facial features when she turned to face me. She has blue eyes and thick lashes. I could describe her nose as a perfectly pointed one. Aside from this, the color of her lips is the same as the color of cherries. She looked gorgeous…
Meeting new people scares me, having no friends or companions. However, I can feel that I can be at peace when she is with me. It is probably because of her aura that illuminates like a moon. She looks harmless and innocent.
She walked towards me and stopped when we were meters away from each other. Her cloak swayed as the wind entered the room.
My eyes widened when she extended her arm holding a dagger that she’s not holding earlier. I forcefully hit her hands which made her lose her grip on the dagger. A loud bang surfaced when it fell on the floor.
Surprised by that loud noise and being afraid of the daggers, I ran as fast as I could to get away from that woman and mansion.
I woke up gasping for air, that dream felt surreal. My fear for the daggers who have almost killed me twice probably triggered my subconscious mind to have that dream. It is probably because of these series of events that are happening to me.
The sun had already risen when I woke up. The fatigue from yesterday made me sleep longer than it usually does.
My parents are still not home, my sister is too. I thought that she promised that she will be protecting our home or territory from a possible attack of our rivals. She hasn’t been home since our parents are gone. I wonder what she’s up to.
She will definitely kill me once she discovers that Alpha is helping me. That would definitely be the end of me. However, I couldn’t resist myself from accepting his help. I feel alive whenever I am with him. It makes me feel like I am not the weak Vertina that is being laughed at by everyone. I couldn’t let go of that feeling. I do not care if I am risking my life at this point, I just wanted to feel alive.
As soon as I arrived at the magical falls, I immediately looked at the branch of a tree that he usually sits on. To my dismay, he was not there. I pouted with the idea that he might have changed his mind because I am too hopeless. I could still remember the embarrassment that I had.
“Your turn.”
I tried my best to stand and get the bow that he handed me. I smiled nervously, I can’t shoot a bird that is constantly moving. Even before, I did try aiming for those birds to improve my shooting. I wasn’t able to shoot a single bird, though.
Now that I am all tired and not even in a good condition to hold a bow, I doubt that I will be able to do what he did. How can I keep up with his great shooting skills? I pouted, admitting the defeat even before aiming.
My hands are still wet from the river. I dried it with my clothes which are also wet from the water dripping from my hair and body. I did that to avoid the arrow from slipping from my eyes.
Alpha then handed an arrow at me. I shyly accepted those, blushing from the embarrassment beforehand. As compared to his skills, a wolf like me will never reach his level. I could imagine the disappointment in his eyes once he saw my shooting skills.
I cleared my throat and aimed for the bird that was resting in one of the trees. Once my aim is set, I immediately let go of my arrow. Dashing towards it, the bird suddenly flew out of the tree. I missed my target.
I bit my lip out of embarrassment.
“Anticipate your enemy’s possible move.” He said seriously. I couldn’t look at his face to know what exactly his expression was. I am aware, though, that he was disappointed by that failed attack.
‘Behind you.’ I snapped out of the memory about yesterday’s happening when Cordia spoke.
When I turned around, I saw him facing me with his right hand in his pocket. I did not sense that he arrived right here in my back. I guess I was too busy thinking about yesterday. Maybe I am too preoccupied or he is just too good at concealing his presence. Both of these reasons, probably.
“Hi.” I said as I looked away from his gaze.
He was wearing a black trench coat with fur in its collar. Underneath that coat is his black fitted shirt and jeans. I can’t help but praise him mentally, what a wonderful creature. That’s the cue for my heart to beat abnormally again. What a fragile heart…
He sat again in his usual spot and ordered me to do a stretching, more like a preparation for my deathbed. I did his command, just how he wanted. Now that I think of it, he did not attend the duel of the wolves. He’s probably bored with watching duels every day so he decided to help me. He must be that boring to help someone like me…
“Swim until you can.” He ordered as if it was nothing.
Is this some sort of punishment? Or some vengeance? Why does it feel like it does?
I pouted out of protest but decided to do it anyway.
