On Guard
Darren's POV
I was guiding the border when suddenly I felt some people's presence coming towards our territory. Who would have dared to come to our place knowing that the Alpha is in the Castle right now. I smirk, they choose death huh.
I immediately rushed to a place where I could see them and there were two invaders, wearing cloaks, directly rushing towards the border. It was actually the first time to see some wolves trying to invade our kingdom ever since that tragic night when we lost Clary.
Thinking of Clary, I could still feel pain thinking that she was gone, I couldn't believe it at first but we saw it, her father identified her. I sighed, I should move on, Clary is dead and I can't get back the past.
So many things have changed after she died, the people of Homer Pack was at peace, no one dared to do violence or crimes in this village afraid of the Alpha.
The borders have also been quiet since then, there were no wolves dared to enter our territory once more. It was probably because of the rumors that our Alpha has killed the entire village of those who invaded our kingdom. It was one of the rumors that has been spreading in and out of the kingdom and I am not really sure if those rumors were true. It was just too unbelievable that Alpha Xylo truly cleared the village, killing all of the people living there.
Because of that unexpected night, where we lost some of our members and I lost the woman I like, I become more cautious with the border. I used to handle it with my one combat skills but after that, I started using my sword in guarding the border.
I immediately grabbed my sword when they stepped inside our border. I drew it instantly and directed it to the one of them. The other was attacked by Kit, one of the member of our family.
To my surprised, the woman in cloak was able to dodge my sword easily. Her speed was incredible and I cannot keep up with the pace that she is showing and it is making me nervous, she do not attack me instead, it seems like she was enjoying dodging me and I have no chance of winning against her strength. With the speed that she has, I doubt that I will be a match of her. She was incredibly fast and that made me scared for my life. I don't think I will be able to keep the border safe with her incredible pace.
Same thing was happening with Kit, the man that he is attacking is only dodging his sword without trying to attack him.
While I was still attacking the woman, the cover in her face was removed and I was shocked to see that it was the woman that I am still grieving for. I actually cannot believe with my own eyes that I saw Clary right in front of me. My body has probably stopped from functioning the moment I see her face under that cloak. Impossible, am I dreaming again? I know that I'm widely awake but why am I seeing Clary right now? She's dead, she died but why do I see he looking right into me with... nothing but cold eyes.
I was so shock that I couldn't able to move my feet, I was stuck on my place.
"You've been lacking, Darren..." she said which made me more shock, impossible. It was Clary's voice but there was more than to it than it was before. She sounded different, her voice sounded cold and I couldn't understand why. The soft innocent Clary is the opposite of this woman in front of me.
If this is truly Clary, she was so different from before. Her speed has definitely changed from the last time I saw her during the duel, it improved drastically. I doubt that it was only her speed that had changed, her other skills have probably improved a lot.
I may mumbled her name out of the shock. Still unbelieving that I am seeing her right now and that she was alive after all the months of grieving. I cannot believe it and I do not know what should I think right at this moment.
Who was the person I've been grieving if Clary is alive? Is this really the Clary Vertina I know? Or... did Clary has a twin? They are very much alike from the facial looks... the voice but what makes them opposite are the emotions, the strength, this one is like a lifeless werewolf, she's so cold.
"Can we pass the border now?" She said and it gives me chills... her tone sounded cold and merciless at the same time.
It felt like, she has turned into completely different person. The opposite of Clary Vertina, who is this woman in front of me?
Clary's POV
"W-where you alive all this time?" Darren asked, still confused that I am right in front of his eyes. He sounded doubtful rather than happy seeing me and I cannot blame him for that. I cannot blame everyone for believing that I am already dead.
I noticed from my peripheral vision that the other swordsman also stopped from attacking Marcus when he heard Darren talking to me casually. Marcus went beside me and faced Darren, he was probably scaring him with his facial expression. Typical Marcus.
"It's a long story," I said shortly at Darren who was now looking at my cousin, scanning him with his own eyes.
He, then, turned his gaze back at me, "he can't enter the border." He said straightforwardly.
"I actually can, try tightening your guard." Marcus answered with a threat lingering in his voice.
The tension between them grow even stronger and I did not come here in this place just to watch them glaring at each other. Time keeps on passing by and I could not just waste my time with that. I should start moving right now, and the more time that I stayed here, the more likely that someone will recognized my face. By then, news could be reaching Andrea that I am still alive and that she has failed to kill me. Knowing her, she will make another move just to kill me again.
"I'm in a hurry, Darren. He is my cousin, we'll get going." I said in between the tension present in the air.
The haste probably sounded too in my voice that made Darren looked at me and just nodded in approval.
The other swordsman protested at Darren for letting us enter. I did not listen to their conversation, I have nothing to do with them. In the end, Marcus and I were able to get in the border and head to the place where I used to live.
"We should have sneaked in, there was no need to encounter with that man." Marcus said in a pissed tone, not enjoying the sight of Darren.
I did not bother to answer him as I was too focused on being careful while we were running towards the Vertina teritorry. I actually do not know what will I see there, I am not sure if Andrea was there. Or she is in the Castle probably having time with her future husband. Well, I just hoped that she will be in the house, and if she's not then I will be hunting her all night long until I'll accomplish my revenge.
I don't care if I will be fighting against Alpha Xylo for protecting her mate. I don't care if death will come to me, I just need to avenge my child's death.
The night was quiet and cold, or it was just my heart being oddly cold at this time. I am desperate to end things right now and my heart feels cold and empty with that in my mind. One thing's for sure, something will definitely end tonight.
When we reached the Vertina's territory, the house from the outside looks quiet but there are some lights opened. I immediately looked at the direction where Andrea's room was located and to my luck, her lights are on.
I smirked.
I turned to face Marcus and said, "I'll handle it alone, just don't let anyone come near us."
