Chapter fifty-seven( Something doesn't seem right)

Derrick's Pov:

"Get me all the information that you could," with my phone pressed to my ear I told the person over the phone.

"I will sir," he mumbled.

"Make sure that no one sees you," I told him.

"I always know that, sir….." He said.

"No, no, don't be faster than your shadow….." I warned him.

"Excuse me…" he confusingly asked.

"I want you to be sneaky, have your eyes fixed on her…… she is deadly and smarter than we all thought," I uttered.

"Ok, sir on it….." He declared.

"This is a life or death game, good luck," I announced before cutting the call.

"Who are you talking to, looking so serious and mean……"

I flipped up instantly as I heard the voice, someone was there and I didn't have any idea "Lucien…." Turning around I gaped at him.

"How long have you been hiding behind those walls…." With a narrowed expression I asked him.

"Come on, I can't possibly be hiding from you, I cleared my throat severally but you were so fixed on the phone to even acknowledge me," he mumbled with his hands up as a sign that he was telling the truth.

"How much did you hear……?" I nervously asked, I just hope he didn't hear anything. I don't trust any single soul though he is my friend, this is something that I wanted to do without anyone having a crew on what it is. I know he is harmless but I can't disclose or allow him to know my plans. Telling him will make him eager to join me, and I don't want him to risk his life for me. I need to do this on my own to strike down these people before they do. I need to stay alone and come up with a plan involving a third party apart from my spies. It isn't a good idea.

"I didn't hear anything, I swear bro," he mumbled.

"How did you get here…..?" I asked because I am damn sure that the door has been locked for days now.

"Really, you are asking me that….. The door was open so I walked in," he surprisingly muttered.

"Which door was open?" Panic kicked into me.

"I mean your door…." He countered.

"That's not possible……" I undoubtedly whispered more to myself.

"This door has been locked for days now….. So how is that possible?" I confusingly murmured to myself.

"Come on, bro is nothing, and beside…… I didn't allow him to finish before I isn't all snapped at him " Is something, just shut up…."

"Wow!....." He expressed.

"Sorry…." I apologized when rubbing my scalp in frustration "I never meant to raise my voice at you," I calmly said to him.

"I understand bro, I should be the one apologizing not you," he said apologetically.

"Why…..?" I was confused by his words.

"Walking into your study without a knock," he mumbled.

"But I thought you said that you knocked?" I asked him again with difficulty, my head is in chaos right now.

"Yes, I knocked but noticed that the door was open and walked in," he uttered.

"Wow!..... No need to apologize," swallowing I told him "Because if you aren't coming in, I shouldn't have known that the door was open," I forged a smile, and he also gave me a small smile.

"Calm down though something doesn't seem right," Ethan said.

"Yes, something is wrong somewhere," I replied.

"We need to be calm and collective to find out the reason," he uttered.

"If the door was open like Lucien said that means that someone has been here," I narrowed my eyes in anger "How can I be fucking stupid not to notice," I cursed under my breathe.

"That means we have to be extra focused from now on but I missed my mate," he said the last part with a pout.

"Same here, I miss her like mad. I need her around me to calm myself down, drowning in her scent will make me think reasonably," I confessed.

"So……" Lucien's voice snapped me back to reality.

"So what have you been working on lately? Locking yourself in the door," he asked with a cocky brow.

"How do you know…..?" I surprisingly asked.

"Know what…..?" He answered back confused.

"That I have been working lately….." I replied with a furrowed eyebrow.

Relaxing on the chair, his brow curled up in a teasing way "Isn't it obvious, with the number of papers on this deal…." Using his eyes he signaled to the papers scattered on the desk.

"Gosh!....." I surprisingly mumbled before quickly packing down and shoving them inside my drawer.

"What have you been working on?" He asked.

"Nothing…." I said in one go.

"You don't want to tell me," he inquired.

"Nothing is just that……. You know what, never mind," I proclaimed.

Clearing his throat since the atmosphere was now awkward he asked "What about your mate, you said the other day that you have found your mate,"

"Yeah, she is fine though I haven't seen her for some days now I have this feeling that she is fine," I said to him.

"Good luck bro on finding your mate, you are one lucky dude. Getting back and finding your mate instantly, and we that have been here haven't found ours," he said the last part with pain visible in his eyes.

"Thanks, but are you ok….?" I asked with concern.

"Yeah, yes I am good," he forced a smile.

"You know you can tell me anything Lucien," I told him.

"Is nothing, bro…." He lied.

"Is something Lucien, come on….." I insist.

"Fine, I will open up when I am ready, you hear," he said, nodding my head. I agreed to leave him since he wasn't ready to open up to someone.

"So who is this mate of yours?" he asked.

"Is she from this pack?" Before I could answer the first one he asked again.

"Bro, allow me to answer the first one," we both laughed.

"I am just excited that's all," we both burst into another laugh.

"Easy, she is my mate, don't snatch it," I jokingly said to him.

"If she is pretty, what do you expect?" With a teasing brow, he laughed at my sudden change of mood.

"Fine, leave my room….." I uttered.

"Someone is in love, come on I won't go near her," he mumbled when suppressing his laugh.

"I don't trust you, you are a man whore….." I teased him.

"You should be talking about Nicholas," we burst into a serious laugh. Gosh, my brother is a typical definition of a man whore and that's when it dawned on me, her sudden behavior that day in my room when she heard Nicholas's voice and Nicholas' odd behavior. Something is wrong somewhere, was he mistaking Annabel for someone else? But he looked so sure and very furious, he looked so worked up and I haven't seen him this mad before. Why was Annabel scared to see Nicholas or Lucien? If something is not adding up, she owes me an explanation.

"Yeah, calm down, and relax besides I won't go for someone that I didn't even know…..," Lucien uttered, yanking back to the present.

"What….?" I muttered confusingly.

"Come on, bro you don't have to be angry at me…. I can't chase your woman," he said. Wait! He thought that I was angry at him, hell no I was just thinking.

"Is nothing….." I said.

"You sure that you aren't mad at me…" he asked.

"Nope, I am not….." I openly said to him.

"So what's her name….?" He asked.

"Annabel….." With a smile, I moaned out her name.

"Annabel……" he seems confused as he repeats the name.

"Any problem…." I nervously asked.

"No, it's just that I haven't heard this name before in this pack……" he confusingly said.

"Must you know every single girl in this pack……." I poked fun at him.

"Of course, I know every single lady in this pack," he muttered.

"Really……." I taunt him.

"Come on, bro then why am I the beta?" He seems annoyed and confused at the same time.
