Chapter 12
Sewa said nothing, she had hurt him and her words had destroyed her sweet Lanre into something else.
She forced a smile onto her face, "It's fine, let's go," She said to him not having enough courage to speak. She hurt him and now she was hurt too, she didn't have the right to feel hurt, does she? She asked herself.
She followed him into the room he referred to be her room. She looked at the colour of the room; it was painted with cream and brown and a touch of peach in the middle.
It wasn't as big as Lanre's room but it was good. A bed was positioned in the middle of the room. Lanre placed her bag close to the bed before turning to walk away.
Sewa frowned, was that how he treated his guest talkless of his girlfriend. She folded her arms across her chest.
"Are you leaving now?" She asked as if that wasn't what he was doing. She face palmed herself for asking such stupid questions.
Lanre turned to look at her, his hands were in pants pocket and he said nothing. He didn't say anything because he didn't have anything to say but if he were to reply to her, he'd speak with sarcasm.
He was about to leave the door when he turned back to a frowning Sewa, "Have you eaten?" He asked her.
Sewa didn't feel like answering him but who was she to do that when she was the one who did wrong. The thought of him trying to make short conversations with her was at least a hope that she could appease him.
She has eaten but she wouldn't mind eating again as long as it gives her the chance to speak to him. "No I haven't," she replied with a sweet and calm voice as if trying to gain his attention the more.
Lanre took a deep breath, he was thinking of what he had that he could prepare for the both of them. "It's late and I can't order food but I have rice, I'd cook for us," He said to her.
"No worries, I will cook them, let me quickly change into something else," she said to him quickly, pulling her dress instantly, not caring that Lanre was there.
Lanre took his eyes off her tempting body as he backed her. Sewa frowned, what was wrong with him? She wanted to hiss out loud but bit her tongue from doing so.
"I'm gonna go," he said to her. Sewa felt a pinch in her heart but shrugged it off.
She opened her box and brought out a jean bum short, matching it with a loose tank top.
Once she was done, she went to the living room where she saw Lanre on his phone, speaking to someone.
She waited patiently for him before she cleared her throat as if getting his attention.
"Do you have anything we could eat the rice with, once I'm done cooking it or I have to make stew for..." She was cut off by Lanre but not in a harsh manner.
"I have vegetable soup in the fridge, you can take it out and warm it," He said. "And one more thing, just cook rice for yourself," he said to her.
Sewa was taken aback by his statement, wasn't he going to eat too?
"Aren't you hungry? I mean you haven't eaten all day depending on the time you went to work and I'm..." Lanre cut her off again.
The way he was cutting her off was starting to get to her. "I will eat but I don't have patience for rice." Came his simple reply which baffled Sewa.
"I don't understand you," She spat out slightly frustrated. His attitude was annoying her and she didn't have enough tolerance to keep cool anymore.
"I will prepare eba for myself while you cook rice for yourself," He explained to her.
Was he doing all of this because he was really angry with her? Was he doing all of this to torture her? She was getting angry and sooner or later she'd explode and shout on him.
She was the crazy one in their relationship while he was the quiet one but now she was being the quiet one while he was being the crazy one, so she thought.
An idea came to her and she smiled, "Then I'd prepare eba for the both of us," Sewa suggested looking deep into Lanre's eyes. She couldn't read anything, this was the first time she couldn't read him at all.
"Fine," he muttered, turning away from her. Sewa ignored whatever feeling she was feeling and made her way to the kitchen to do what she wanted to do.
She hated eating eba at night as she considered it a heavy food which wasn't right for dinner.
She was lost in her thoughts, thinking of how to appease Lanre that she forgot that the handle of the pot was hot. She touched the pot handle unconsciously and winced in pain when she touched it.
"Ouch!" She cried out.
Lanre came into the kitchen at that time but said nothing to her when he saw what had just happened. Sewa frowned, didn't he see she was almost burnt? She thought to herself.
Wanting to get his attention, she cried out loud, placing her hand in the sink as she turned the tap on.
"It's painful," she cried out. His eyes welled with tears not because of what happened but because Lanre wasn't giving her attention.
"Be careful next time and besides it's not that hot," Lanre said, taking the pot off the gas with his palm.
"It's not that hot because I already turned it off!" She semi yelled, intentionally pushing him away from the pot and acted as if she didn't know she did that.
Lanre walked out of the Kitchen without turning back. Whilst preparing the eba, she made insulting remarks towards Lanre and laughed at herself when she realised she was talking to herself.
She set the table up, then left to call Lanre. "I'm done," She said to him when she saw him.
"Okay, I will join you soon," he said to her. She left him.
She waited for him to come before she touched the food. Lanre looked at her in a way she didn't understand. Did I do anything wrong? She asked herself, clearly not understanding him anymore.
"Where is mine?" He asked her.
"It's here," she pointed at the food on the table.
"Where is yours?" He asked her, confusing her again.
She pointed at the same food she pointed for him.
"We are eating together?" He asked her.
"Yes, we are," She replied.
"Are you sure you are okay with it because the last time I checked, you weren't," He said. Sewa bit her bottom lips. He wasn't going to stop using her words against her, would he?
She tried controlling her emotions so as not to break down that moment. This was one of the reasons she didn't want to fall in love, she wasn't easy to break and now that she let herself fall for him, this was what was happening to her.
Hurt and pain. She forced a tight smile unto her face, trying to laugh at his remark so as not to feel hurt by his words.
"Are you going to eat now or?" She asked him ignoring his statement earlier as if he said nothing.
Lanre took a seat, then he turned to look at her, he felt guilty when he saw the way she was. She wasn't happy he could tell but she said nothing and that surprised him.
He shouldn't feel bad, he said to himself, after all she was the one who hurt him. He glanced at her secretly as if wanting to see her expression, he could see she was struggling to eat the food.
They both ate in silence. After a while, Sewa broke the silence, "The soup is nice, I'd give you a fifty though," She said trying to start a conversation.
"Hmm...thank you." Came his simple reply. "You are okay with a fifty?" She asked him.
"Table manner," He muttered typing on his phone.
Sewa felt embarrassed that moment, did he just shun her? She thought to herself. She was clearly pissed and hurt.
She suddenly lost her appetite, washing her hands. She took the plates knowing well that Lanre wasn't done eating and threw the rest in the bin, washing the plates.
Lanre was shocked, "What was that for?" He asked her.
"I see you don't have interest in eating, so I was helping you," She replied as if she didn't care.
"Excuse you?" He asked.
"Table manner!" She retorted. "Do not type on your phone while eating!" She said sarcastically. Once she was done, she left the kitchen expecting Lanre to come speak to her but he didn't.
