Chapter 13
Sewa tossed and turned on her bed, she couldn't sleep and it was all because of Lanre. She blamed it all on Lanre.
Why was he so stubborn lately? She asked herself. Lanre of a month ago wouldn't do all of this, it was as if someone brainwashed him.
She groaned frustratingly as she sat down on her bed. There was no way, she'd let him sleep if she couldn't sleep.
She wondered what he was doing now, could he be sleeping? She thought to herself.
She got off her bed. She was going to make sure he doesn't sleep if she didn't. She smirked as she stood on his door, knowing what to do.
She sat down on the floor, holding onto her ankle then cried out in pain.
"Ouch!" She cried out. "My ankle! My..." She feigned hurt, making sure her cries were loud enough to get Lanre's attention.
"My..it hurts," she cried out again. After a while Lanre opened the door to his room.
He looked at Sewa who sat on the floor crying out in pain. "Are you alright?" He asked her.
He felt stupid asking her that question when he could see she was in pain. He squatted down to attend to her.
"What happened? How did you fall?" He asked her with worry laced on his tone.
"I was...I was.." she cried out. Lanre touched the place she was holding and she winced in pain.
"Ouch!" She feigned hurt.
"I'm sorry. What did you say happened to you again?" He asked her.
Sewa felt warmth in her belly, Lanre was giving her the attention she wanted and she squealed mentally that her plan was working.
"I was scared, the room..." She trailed off looking for the perfect lie to tell him.
Lanre scrunched his eyebrows at her. He wondered what happened in the room. "The room...I felt like there was...I..." She was looking for the perfect excuse to use and convince him into letting her stay in his room.
"I don't get you, did something happen?" He asked her.
"I am scared of sleeping," she whispered. "It was dark and I felt as if I was hearing voices," she muttered.
Lanre chuckled, voices? "Voices? Really Sewa?" He chuckled again. The almighty and fierce Sewa was scared. The look on her face made him laugh out loud.
It was rare to see Sewa in a vulnerable state. Sewa frowned when she saw him laughing, she wondered if her plan had been discovered.
"What's...what's funny?" She stuttered.
"Voices? Sewa you mean there are ghosts roaming around in my house?" He asked her with a lopsided grin.
"I'm..I'm not saying ghost," she swallowed the lump in her throat. "I am saying I heard voices and it was mortifying sleeping alone in the dark too," She said to him.
"Really? Then you should have turned the lights on," He said to her.
"If you can't sleep in the dark, you turn on the lights and then you can sleep."
"The lights won't be able to save me if the voices make me scream," She frowned and Lanre chuckled.
"Mofadesewa!" He exclaimed with laughter holding unto his stomach. She was cracking him up with ghosts and voices.
"Save you? I mean did you kill someone for the person to come attack you?" He asked her.
"No o!" She was quick to reply.
"Hmm," he hummed. "Really?" He asked.
"Stop scaring me Ola," She muttered.
"I am not scaring you, you are scaring yourself with your imaginations," he said to her.
"Was that why, you ran out of your room and sprained your ankle by mistake?" He asked her.
"I was scared okay, you don't have to laugh at me. You are so mean!" She pouted.
"Really? I am mean right now?" He chuckled. "How can I be mean when I am obviously attending to you now?" He asked her.
"You are laughing," she muttered.
"That's because you were saying funny things! Like who would listen to you and not laugh at your imaginative stories?" He asked with his brows raised
Sewa said nothing, nothing at all. She just wanted to sleep in his arms and she must get it granted tonight.
"Come on, let's get you to bed," he said to her, carrying her bridal style in his arms.
"Don't take me back to that room," she said to him, wrapping her arms tightly around his neck. She sniffed him in a stylish way. She missed being in his arms.
"Why? Afraid of ghosts?" He asked her.
"Please Ola, please don't take me back," she croaked.
He heaved a sigh, "Where do you want to sleep if not that room?" He asked her.
"Your room...of course," she whispered in her last statement. She was worried he might not let her sleep in his room.
"Don't worry, I will stay with you in that room until you fall asleep," He suggested. Sewa stomach churned, things weren't going her way and she didn't like it.
She bit on her lips, "Do you have to? You can just take me to your room and instead of depriving yourself of sleep, we will just sleep together," She muttered.
"Really? But I don't think it's a good idea," He said to her.
"Why?" She frowned. Lanre said nothing, she was forgetting what she said to him, he was still healing from her words.
He doesn't have enough emotions to give anymore because her words almost broke him.
"Sewa..." She cuts him off.
"If you won't let me sleep in your room, then I won't sleep at all!" She threatened.
Lanre took her into his room, once he dropped her on the bed, he turned to leave.
"Where are you going?" She asked him.
"To sleep in the other room," he replied and Sewa frowned.
"What? Really?!" She asked in bewilderment
"Are you seriously leaving me?" She asked him, her voice was about to break.
"If you will sleep here, I will sleep there," he retorted.
"You don't have to leave the room, I will leave," She said to him with hurt evident in her tone. She got down from the bed, faking her leg pain, she limped.
She stopped when she was almost at the door and said something to Lanre, "You don't have to be like this. It's unnecessary!" She spat out walking out of the room.
She didn't go back to her room, instead she went to the living room. She plopped on the couch and turned on the TV. Her eyes were teary and she knew sooner or later she'd cry.
Isn't this what you wanted? She asked herself. So why all this unnecessary drama and all this tears?
This was a perfect opportunity to let go of Lanre and focus on what she really loved doing. Sooner or later, her secret would be revealed and she'd hurt him and herself.
First thing tomorrow morning, she was leaving, it was nice knowing him and the woman to have him would be the luckiest woman on earth.
She walked back into her room, to pack, then returned back to the living room.
"You slept here all night?" Lanre asked Sewa as soon as she opened her eyes. She looked around to realise she had fallen asleep on the couch.
She said nothing to him as she stood up from her chair, walking passed him. She was leaving today, there was no need talking to him.
Lanre was taken aback by her actions. He was starting to feel bad for the way he treated her last night. He didn't expect her to sleep here and he wished he had let her stay in the room with him.
He followed her, "Get prepared so we can go out to eat," he said to her.
"You don't have to worry about that," she replied coldly. "I am actually leaving today," She said to him.
"What? You are leaving so soon?" He was confused, she arrived last night and was leaving this morning.
"Yes. It seems like my present isn't needed here so I better go back," she replied.
Lanre heart sank, he really did treat her bad although she treated him bad first and now he was the one hurting more.
Reason he wanted to forget, it was just him doing everything, the chasing and trying to build the relationship. He wasn't going to do that now as much as it ached him.
"Fine! Suit yourself!" He retorted, taking Sewa by shock.
Lanre has never spoken to her this way before. He wouldn't give into her request so quickly. He spoke as if he didn't care if she left or stayed. The Lanre she knew would obviously try to convince her but she guessed that Lanre was gone and this Lanre didn't care much about her.
He had a stoic expression on his face. Sewa never expected such, has he gotten over her totally? She asked herself.
