Chapter 207 Action Speaks Louder Than Words
Chapter 207 Action Speaks Louder Than Words
"This is Suzanne's dressing room!" Veronica Parker exclaimed.
"Don't worry, I locked the door. Nobody will see us." Toby Cage responded.
Toby Cage must have been crazy in the eyes of Veronica Parker for dragging her inside Suzanne Roland's dressing room.
"You are insane Toby! This is your girlfriend's room. If she finds out, she would be in a rage. You're going too far, Toby." She protested.
But he didn't listen. Instead, he grabbed her arm and directed her towards the sofa, and slightly pushed her down. "Drink this." He ordered. Veronica Parker was bewildered by his actions. She felt too uncomfortable and was slightly dizzy. Her face became paler. "What are you waiting for? Drink it. Or what, do you want me to do it for you instead?" He warned.
"Of course not!" Veronica Parker answered and looked more and more uncomfortable.
She took a sip of the hot ginger tea. Afraid that he might do something else again, she just focused on the hot tea which slightly relieved her uneasiness.
The smell of ginger relaxed her. It soothes her stomach and made her feel warm. She felt better.
Toby Cage turned to get and prepare his electric water bag.
The bag seemed to be expensive and seldom used.
When it was ready, she offered it to Veronica Parker and gestured to put it on top of her belly. But as expected, she refused to do so. To his dismay, he leaned forward and did it for her.
Then Toby Cage sat down beside her with no expression on his face.
"Do you still buy hot water bags during this season?" Veronica Parker asked curiously.
"What can't you buy if you have lots of money?" He responded.
Veronica Parker thought for one second and was speechless.
Then there was silence. For a time, they felt awkward with each other. It was just the two of them in there so they felt quite uneasy. Veronica Parker still clutched the hot water bag on her belly. She was also still drinking the hot ginger tea he gave her earlier. She felt much better now. Thanks to Toby Cage. "You looked as if you saw a ghost earlier. You were so pale. " Toby Cage scanned her face and commented.
Veronica Parker touched her face and asked, "Was it too obvious? What do you think?"
"I'd better go to the pantry. Someone will be here soon." She added.
"Sit." Toby Cage quickly responded.
"Aren't you afraid that Suzanne Roland will see both of us in here?" She inquired.
"She's not at the TV station." Confirmed Toby Cage.
Veronica Parker stopped talking. He didn't come to see her on purpose, did he?
If she won't ask him, how will she know his answer? But what if he confirms it? How should she deal with it?
But even so, it's very uncomfortable.
She knew it was improper to be in the same room with her ex-boyfriend. And what's worse, he even locked the door and made sure that no one would see them.
Veronica Parker doesn't have grudges towards Toby Cage. She does not hate him. Nor was she longing for him. He was her past already. Toby Cage was always good to her even before. He treated her so kindly. But his grandmother never liked her for him. And she couldn't forget how badly she treated her even after they separated already. "I was on a business trip some time ago." Toby Cage's low voice broke the silence.
"Oh, it's fine." Veronica Parker answered.
Toby Cage turned to look at her with an indescribable expression.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" she asked.
"What do you want me to say?" He asked her in return.
"Well, I don't think you can say anything nice." She blurted.
After saying that, she slightly moved and was about to stand up to leave. "I better get going. I feel much better now. The hot bag and tea that you gave me definitely eased the pain. And besides, I've been sitting here for quite some time now so I guess, it's time for me to go." Veronica Parker explained.
"Did I ask you to leave? Sit down and stay. I told you, I just got back from a business trip. So just stay for a while." Toby Cage insisted.
"What did you say?" Veronica Parker turned her head to face Toby Cage. She was shocked by his words. She couldn't understand what Toby Cage was up to this time.
"I just got back from a business trip."
"Then are you going to stay here?" She asked.
Veronica Parker looked at Toby Cage's side face and saw that he was really tired. He just got back from a business trip and he might not have a place to stay. Veronica Parker looked slightly moved and said nothing more.
She already finished her tea and she wanted to leave the room. However, he won't let her. She wanted to try and ask for his permission again so she could leave. But she was also worried he might refuse again.
Her mind wanted to go and leave. But her heart says otherwise.
Veronica Parker curled up on the sofa and gradually felt sleepy. So she closed her eyes for a moment, but without the intention of totally falling asleep.
Toby Cage turned around and saw her head tilted, her body leaning slightly over. His shoulders were a few centimeters away from Veronica Parker's head.
A few minutes later, she finally gave in and fell asleep on his shoulder.
